It's one of those old fashioned ironmongers - if you remember the sorely missed Crockett's in Glasgow, this is a smaller version, but essentially the same theory. If you can use it in the house, on the house, above the house, under the house or near the house, then Jacks will have it. The price for this mish mash of usefullness is that some things will be more expensive than, say, Homebase, which doesn't exist in Lanark any more - Jacks was here before them, and is here after them. Three or four times this past month I've needed something and the phrase "Aye, Jacks will have it" was the first thing said to me. I went in today and sure enough, got everything I needed. There's something great about just wandering around these kinds of places, and discovering things you never knew you wanted, probably didn't need, but you end up with three of them anyway. That's Jacks... and nobody in Lanark would change it.

They also sell homeware items and ornamental things, the range and the service that this shop provides just can't be touched by somewhere like B & Q or Homebase.

That's…read moreat least one good reason for using Ablesweep, although another good reason is that they do a sterling job of getting all the soot and grime that builds up and shifting it before ignites and burns your house to the ground. The service is friendly and the chap who does the sweeping is happy to chat about your heating system, the state of your chimney and offer advice on a range of central heating related topics, very knowledgeable as he is. The only real gripe I have is the cost, £65 last time, although there is that piece of mind element and it also means the Mrs stops bothering me about getting the chimney swept before it goes on fire. Honestly, some people! Mean to say, they're very good at minimising mess, and compared to other sweeps we've had there's no mess at all good stuff!

We were interested in them due to the fact they take a fixed fee to sell your house rather than that of the other agents in the town who work on percentages of this and that. They are local and sell local properties so will have a good idea of the amounts of money they think your property will sell for. They provide free valuations as do the others but it is always good to have more choice. I think this estate agent will do well!
