Tweeddale Kitchens took great care to give us a plan for the kitchen we needed. They have a good reputation in the area.

Even where B&Q missed some of our order, he was able to trim off some unit pieces to make up for the missing items. Job is definitely a goodun. Sorry to say they were very poor in my experience. Had them booked for a weekday afternoon service…read morecall. They didn't turn-up and only phoned me at 5pm to say they were't coming, after I'd taken a half day from work. Then they arranged a weekend visit instead and didn't turn-up for that either, so I waited in all day for nothing. I understand that jobs over-run sometimes, but the lack of communication was really poor and two missed visits doesn't inspire confidence. Edit: Marie did phone me at 4pm on Saturday and assured me an engineer would visit next Saturday at 9am without fail. Edit 28/11: It's 9.30am Saturday and the engineer isn't here. If I had a complaining customer and I'd promised that an engineer would attend by a certain time, I'd ensure they were on time. Late and no call. Very, very poor.

Jacks is somewhat of a Lanark institution. I think The original Jack (whoever he may be) might be…read moreLanark's favourite Jack, edging out Nicholson, Ruby, Kerouac and even Daniels... It's one of those old fashioned ironmongers - if you remember the sorely missed Crockett's in Glasgow, this is a smaller version, but essentially the same theory. If you can use it in the house, on the house, above the house, under the house or near the house, then Jacks will have it. The price for this mish mash of usefullness is that some things will be more expensive than, say, Homebase, which doesn't exist in Lanark any more - Jacks was here before them, and is here after them. Three or four times this past month I've needed something and the phrase "Aye, Jacks will have it" was the first thing said to me. I went in today and sure enough, got everything I needed. There's something great about just wandering around these kinds of places, and discovering things you never knew you wanted, probably didn't need, but you end up with three of them anyway. That's Jacks... and nobody in Lanark would change it.
