My favorite nook in the store

I visited Folklore & Fable during their grand opening weekend and it was awesome to see a great, local turn out to celebrate with them. I was captivated by their layout and decor, particularly their charming wallpaper. Despite the crowded store, their expansive, black bookcases made browsing the books a breeze, even from a distance. They have a great variety of genres and a good mix of new releases, popular series, and timeless classics. Located in Colchester's charming, walkable downtown. There's some street parking directly in front of the store, but plenty of free parking in the public lot behind the building. Their friendly and welcoming booksellers quickly completed transactions to keep the line moving. It's so wonderful to see an author- and woman-owned bookstore open! Looking forward to supporting them again in the future.

Nice local bookstore owner. Love purchasing to support small female owner businesses.

Great independent book store on Main Street in Middletown near Wesleyan. They have a wide…read moreselection of Wesleyan merch and of course a great book selection. I've always had terrific service and they do a good job of curating kids' books. On more than one occasion, my son picked out a book to later discover that it was an author-signed copy. My favorite Hartford area coffee shop Story & Soil took over the cafe space. The pairing of S&S and RJ has great potential.

This massive bookstore is located right in downtown Middletown and has a massive selection of fiction, non-fiction, romance, horror, and every other genre you can possibly want at a book store. Downstairs seems to be pretty much only Wesleyan merch which doesn't exactly interest me, but is a cool spot to have as a student or even just downtown who lives in the area. The design of this store is big open floor and it's very nicely decorated. The best part? The haunted Connecticut section that we just had to get something out of. Overall, the Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore is the perfect book store for downtown Middletown. The store has a massive selection, a ton of parking thanks to the downtown parking setup, and a solid staff to help with whatever questions you may have. Great spot.

My husband and I were in Old Saybrook for an overnight stay. We stayed at a local B and B, had…read moredinner at Penny Lane Pub on Saturday night and attended a wonderful blues concert at The Kate. Sunday morning we had breakfast at Mirsina's which was delicious. We then took a walk on Main Street. We were talking about what a sweet town this is and the friendliness of all the people we interacted with. We enjoy book stores and decided to explore Harbor Books. When we walked in, we greeted the woman at the desk. She was the wife/ owner I believe. We made small talk and looked around for books we might want to buy. During this time, a male patron came in and was talking about a 20th century European history book he had read and asked for help finding 2 other out of print books by the same author. I was preparing to make a purchase of at least 1 or 2 hardcover novels and my husband was interested in local history. A conversation took place between the owner and patron and was pointedly opinionated political talk that was very disturbing and inappropriate. Needless to say, we abruptly left. I am sorry our wonderful overnight was marred by hateful this experience. I will never go there again.

The books are used, and their prices are written on the inside cover. They have a huge selection, every genre you can think of, and except for more popular titles, have one copy of each book to (I assume) allow for even more selection. I cannot recommend this bookstore enough. They also have a display of scouting materials in the back.
