I rescued my dog Bailey a little over three months ago, and like many rescue dogs, she had her fair share of challenges. She showed signs of separation anxiety, crate aversion, general nervousness, and didn't seem super comfortable around other dogs. Right away, after reading positive after positive review, I enrolled her in this training program, and it's been an absolute game changer! After a short overnight board and train, she came back crate trained -- like magic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The owner heard of our situation, that we were doing this to help out the elder and had put in a lot of time (250+ hours) and he said "love you guys" and indicated he would give us a free lesson and that he would send the form on the following Monday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It did not arrive until Thursday, and it had a $200 price tag to the "free" lesson. I sent an email expressing we were cancelling and why. The elder is back from surgery and does not want our help anymore because we expressed to the family we thought the dog was best rehomed and why. I heard no reply, and in the interim I get these reminders that I will have to pay $75 if I donʻt show up for the appointment. My guess is, they are just super busy. But still, I would not recommend this service to anyone. It isnʻt good business to bad mouth another trainer. We have learned if a dog has issues often times it isnʻt the trainer but the owners capacity to put in the time to do the work. You have to be willing to get to know the dog and work with your dog and not all things are taught with obedience training. I did my first training session with Eric last Monday. I had met him while I was walking my husky, Loki. The first time I met him he gave me a bunch of tips to get Loki to stop pulling and told me about his follow the leader philosophy. He gave me some tips on how to get Loki to follow me, as opposed to me following him. Eric is incredible! I brought my Australian Cattle Dog to him for a board and train for 5 days to help with her fear of men and dog reactivity. It was my first time leaving her for a long period of time, which I was very nervous about, but Eric assured me that she would be okay. Eric is a very caring person who has a GIANT heart for all dogs. My dog, a bluenose Pit, improved with just a a couple of training sessions along with instructions Eric gave me to work on at home. I planned on more training and then having my dog go full time boot camp with Eric. Unfortunately there was a turf war at the fence with a neighbors very aggressive, but small dog. My 7-month-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Shaka, did well at "puppy academy", learned all the basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come etc. but clearly had a mind of his own. His size and strength made taking him for walks an unpleasant and stressful experience. I had to be ultra-careful with him around other dogs as his puppy enthusiasm, plus physical size, overwhelmed most others. It was not safe to have him off leash anywhere as he was unresponsive and out of control. Simply put, it was no fun being with him. One day I took him to a local park and as luck would have it Eric was there exercising his dogs. He invited me to let Shaka off leash to join his pack and quietly assured me he would not run away but also be quickly absorbed into the group's dynamic. As Eric and I talked I could not help but be impressed with his approach toward developing relationships with dogs and how his own animals' behavior showed the effectiveness of his methods. Recognizing that I needed help training Shaka I decided that to take him to Eric. After an introductory lesson we decided that to take most advantage of Eric's abilities and get the desired results it would be best to have Shaka go through a four-week period of board and training. After working with two other trainers in town, Diego still had behavior issues that didn't make me feel comfortable approaching other dogs. Eric made me realize that Diego needed my help to meet other dogs, that he also was nervous. This entire time I've been trying to get my dog to socialize with all dogs out there--- and it's not possible. He also made me think of what I was asking from Diego to do with him meeting all dogs. It wasn't fair to him and he won't ever like all dogs-- so, it's getting him to a place where he can walk away, turn around, come to me if he's uncomfortable with a dogs energy. One of the many techniques Eric uses that is very different from the trainers I had selected before was that he boarded Diego. This means, he got to see Diego out of his element and got to experience the behaviors I was seeing but had misunderstood. This meant he was able to address those behaviors with him and meanwhile sending me homework at home to help transition Diego on his return. We recently adopted a senior dog that turned out to be more than we were prepared for....she has serious human aggression issues as well as being high strung, unbalanced and anxious. We were at our wits' end when we finally decided that we needed help.
