THIS is the absolute highlight of my trip to Rome.
Yes, I saw St. Peter's, the Sistine Chapel, The Vatican Museum, The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, etc, etc, blah blah blah ... I saw all that and more but THIS absolutely blew my mind.
I am a -huge- fan of Giorgio de Chirico. The green skies, the odd perspective, the mysterious shadows... His work from the Metaphysical period was a huge influence on the emerging Surrealist movement and on generations after that.
This museum is in his HOME near the Spanish Steps! He lived and worked here! It has all been preserved beautifully so it is as if he'll walk into the room at any moment. The highlight of this highlight was seeing his studio, which was left exactly as it was when he died.
I got goosebumps!
You'll see plenty of his art and sculpture! You'll see his tiny bedroom! I even took a potty break and used his bathroom!
*squeal!*
If you don't know who he is, it probably wouldn't interest you. If you know who he is and appreciate his contribution to Art History, you absolutely must come see this!
