My son entered…read morethe school as a shy 14 year old boy and graduated this past June as a proud and confident 'Xaverian Man'. For him the school was a place where he felt safe, was challenged academically and had the type of "Brotherhood" from both the teachers and fellow students that he never had as an only child. I am sure there were some minor childhood shenanigans going on that administrators may have turned a blind eye to at times. That is part of the growing process and after all it is an all boys school. However, when there were isolated incidents that were more than just childhood pranks, the administrators took swift action to correct the situation. I attended all of the Parent/Teacher meetings and can honestly say that his teachers all showed me that they cared about my son's academic and social progress as well as his over all high school experience. There was never a time where I left those meetings feeling anything less than optimistic about his progress even when he was not working at his best. Yes, the tuition is higher than at other comparable Catholic private high schools in Brooklyn but they do not nickel and dime families with all those mandatory fund raisers other schools often do which cuts the gap some and they do offer financial assistance to those families who truly need it. In the end we are pleased about the education and values that he gained from his four years there and would recommend the school to any family who is thinking of sending their son there.

Another suggestion: Please make the schedule a little better by changing class in 5 minutes instead of 1 minute. That is so fast and there is no way to change that quick. Thank you and hope you change it as soon as possible. My teachers choose me as "student of the month" which is nice to me because my parents will be happy to see that. Last suggestion: When you do report card, please average it correctly. I had found that my real average for the report card is higher than the one that is written from the teachers. I am not mad, I want you guys to tell the truth. If you listen, then people will get happier and more excited by seeing this. For example, I got 85,85,85,90,96,97,98 on my report card. The regular average is 90.85714285714...and instead of that, they put 90.83. By .03 point is a little quite a difference. I would like you guys to follow my suggestion so you guys will make me happy. Poly Prep has been a complete disappointment. Teachers assign a large quantity of work, but most do…read moreminimal instruction. There are far too many "work periods" and not enough teaching. Having students work in groups on a packet or on a simple project during class time is not teaching. Assignments are not returned for weeks. One of my children waited 3 months to get their grade back on a paper. It's typical to wait 4-8 weeks to get a grade on an assignment. The choices for literature are not very interesting, and are all very similar in nature. The food is abysmal, and there are almost no field trips. I have no idea what they spend tuition money on. Well, the board's goal for this year is to increase teacher salaries by $1,000,000, so perhaps that is where the $65,000 per student is going. Middle school children are not allowed to go outside during lunch or even leave the cafeteria. I would not recommend this school. You can find much better places to send your children.

People stand with their kids at the fence shoving food in to the animals, which is of course not a great idea--stick to just admiring, so the animals don't get fat and unhealthy and accustomed to Cheetos. Another strange corner of Brooklyn becomes an attraction because of its animals, and it's pretty endearing.
