As a mother of a senior, I can say with complete honesty that Regis High School has been one of the greatest blessings in my son's life--and in ours as a family. Beyond its well-known Jesuit academic excellence, what truly sets Regis apart is the extraordinary care and attention given to each boy. The faculty and staff do far more than teach; they guide, support, and form young men with integrity, compassion, and purpose. The range of extracurricular activities is exceptional, from STEM programs to Speech and Debate, allowing every student to find his passion and grow in confidence. But even more impressive is the way Regis instills values that shape the boys into remarkable young men--thoughtful, caring, and supportive of one another. It is a community in the truest sense: faculty, staff, students, and parents all connected by a shared mission. I will deeply miss being part of the Regis community, but I will always remain grateful. Regis has given my son not only an outstanding education, but a moral foundation and friendships that will last a lifetime. It's surprising how rarely people mention this about Regis, but some of the students--especially on the basketball team--show a real lack of respect and sportsmanship. The experience was honestly pretty disappointing. I've since heard similar stories from other teams ("yeah they're the biggest trash talkers we've seen") in the league, so it clearly isn't just a one-time thing. It's really unfortunate, because a few of us parents were actually thinking about applying and touring the school. Character should matter as much as talent, but that lesson seems to have been missed here. read more

Regis is one of the most selective and academically rigorous high schools in New York City, and probably the most prestigious all-boys Catholic high school in the entire country. because all Regis students attend free of tuition, acceptance is highly selective and based on an entrance exam, letters of recommendation, and more. Like all things, institutions even as outstanding as Regis High School are not for everyone. I would not, however, agree with the negative comments in the reviews below. Regis is not a school for "Catholic nerds." Yes, one has to be a high academic performer to attend, but such ability does not make anyone a "nerd." Regis has robust programs in sports, writing and the performing arts, among others, and its athletic teams have consistently won city championships in baseball, basketball and volley ball against bigger schools. A recent Regis grad is currently a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. Yes, you do have to work hard as the coursework is rigorous, but students have social lives, and build friendships that last forever. I have been friends with many of my Regis classmates for nearly 50 years. Those who say the coursework is too hard or the environment socially challenging probably had issues before arriving and were not cut out for Regis. They often self-select out. Regis is also unique in its mission: it reaches out (REACH program) to communities in the city to find promising students from economically challenged backgrounds and mentors them from 4th grade on to become high achievers to potentially go to Regis or to get scholarships to other Catholic schools. These are students who go from families with hardship who receive a free high school education at Regis and have the opportunity to go to top 25 universities and achieve their greatest potential. Regis is unique and focused on its purpose and its mission in the Jesuit tradition: to provide the best education and mentoring possible to help promising students to become Men for Others. My son is a freshman, the school is exceptional!! Extremely small, and highly competitive to get in. But once you are there, the students and all the families are part of a small family that is impossible to find at any NYC high school. My son is thrilled to be there. He stays for clubs every day and still has hours of HW and reading. He still wouldn't change a thing. read more

School for smart, Catholic nerds. Don't send your child here if you expect him to have a social life. Do send him here if you want a 1 in 4 chance of getting into an Ivy League. (25% of their students get in) Do send him here if you want him to have challenging courses. Do not send him here if he wants some action. From a former student now attending an ivy league colllege: do not send your child here. Most of my classmates came into Regis as bright and motivated students. They leave with social problems that they carry with them for the rest of their lives. To do well at Regis (ie, to get into an ivy league school), your son has to put in 10x the amount of work to compete with every other bright student who got accepted there. The result is a socially deprived 18 year old who has troble forming lasting friendships and getting girls. While I was lucky to escape these issues, many of my friends are still struggling psychologically. It's so unneccesary. 25% who attend go to ivies, but the fact that each male student who gets into Regis is among the top 3 performers at their junior high school means that 75% of bright students with potential don't get to shine. There's a 75% that this will be your son in four years. So yes, if you send your kid here, he has a 25% of making it to the ivy league. Truly the best all-boys Catholic School in the country. Not for the feint of heart as you will have to work your butt off for 4 years but you will get a top notch education. If you can get in to this school(not an easy thing) you should definitely go as the Regis name carries clout that will follow you for the rest of your life. The faculty, for the most part, is amazing and the community is absolutely wonderful. The student body is incredibly diverse and the school teaches the Jesuit value of "Men For Others" . read more

Academically it is the best high school in New York City. You have to be in the top 2% of your 8th grade class, pass a grueling admissions test, and then pass a grueling interview to even be considered. read more

To correct the posted reviews; Tanya V.: 130 in a class is not "extremely small" and being part of a "small family that is impossible to find at any NYC High School"is not true. My oldest son attended Regis. He ended up at a good college. My children that went to Collegiate and Hunter respectively ended up at far more prestigious colleges and the small family experience was much better. If you're a working Mom at Regis, watch out; you are not welcomed by the non working helicopter Moms who are way too involved in their sons lives in an unhealthy way. Dave K: their admission rate at the Ivies is nowhere near 25% anymore unless you're a legacy or you're a minority especially from families that don't need financial aid. Gary B: academically it is not the best high school in NYC. Being in the top 2% of your class is not a requirement - and many parochial schools have weak curriculums. As for the "grueling admissions" test, the Regis test is way way easier than the Selective High School Public School (Stuyvesant, Bronx, Lehman, etc.) Test. My son got a perfect score on the Regis test, nowhere near it on the Public School test where the bar was much higher. 50% of applicants who "pass a grueling interview" get in. And while the top at all the schools are the same, the middle and bottom of the class at Regis are considerably weaker. My kids at Collegiate and Hunter got much better educations than my Regis son. If you have an over achieving, hard working boy this may be the place for him. But an elite, boutique, truly exceptional educational experience Regis is not. read more
