Food for Thought recently catered our wedding at Foster Creek Farm, and it was an excellent experience. Emily and Maria are both so helpful, and adjusted things along the way to ensure we had exactly what we hoped for. It was a destination wedding, and while we did a tasting on one of our trips to town, everything else had to be managed from afar. They could not have been more excellent in assisting with this. We love food, and plan whole vacations around restaurants to visit, so it was important to have outstanding food at our wedding. FFT really exceeded expectations in this area. It was customized for us, felt local and fresh, accommodated several guest's serious food allergies, and was just as good at the event as at our tasting. We heard from so many guests that it was they best food they'd ever had at a wedding. Honestly, we ended up paying a touch more than I'd originally expected to pay for catering in Bozeman, but it was worth every penny. The service was stellar. One very sweet server brought out a tray of glasses of ice water to our family photos when it got unexpectedly warm. They pulled a small plate of each item from our cocktail hour cheese board to ensure we would get to have a taste despite our photos. All of our china rentals were spotless and set up perfectly for return. They worked seamlessly with our other vendors, and even though we didn't have an event planner, every interaction I had with them night of made my wedding experience better. Food For Thought offers an easy drop-off option for those interested in catering, but aren't comfortable with an in-home chef right now. We used FFT to cater a small birthday dinner for 12 adults. The catering menu was full of unique local options like Bison Short Rib in pan jus. The prices were also very reasonable compared to other caterers in the area, and the food restaurant quality. This is a great option is you are looking for a night off from cooking, but would defer to dine in your own home - or if you're just looking to make the night extra special with some fantastic food. read more

We had Food For Though prepare a celebratory meal for four people on our first trip to Big Sky, MT, and it was the culinary highlight of our entire week. The food was incredible - perfectly balanced, local, and very creative. Our group is from Manhattan and is used to going out to all sorts of restaurants; the meal we had would have been a stellar meal out on any night in NY. The staff was professional, lovely, timely, and courteous. They were interactive and answered all of our questions, but still allowed for a sense of privacy for our party. We didn't have the extra money to fly up to Bozeman prior to the wedding for tastings, so we pretty much had to wing it. After looking at the menu from Food for Thought, I prayed that the food would turn out as good it sounded. With reasonable pricing, we were hoping for a slam dunk -- especially since people tend to always remember the food at a wedding. The food, was in fact, wonderful. The portions were huge so no one went hungry. Definitely a great value for the price. The staff was a pleasure to work with and Emily was always very responsive. Food For Thought has some very delicious sandwiches, from the old standards to more unique items, like my personal favorite, the Mozzarella with prosciutto. What makes it stand above other delis is that they use very fresh, quality ingredients which are lacking even from local delis. They also have a wide selection of foods, with about 20 sandwiches, various rotating items like crab cakes and Asian meatballs, and a good selection of sweet pastries. The atmosphere is great, with local art on display, eclectic music, plenty of seating, and an abundance of sunlight pouring in. There are, however, two problems: firstly, while the service is generally friendly, it can be a bit slow -- though never enough to ruin the experience, just enough that you have to scratch your head and wonder what's taking so long; secondly, the food can be a bit pricy, though because so much of the food is so tasty you can forgive the prices. They also have cheaper items, like three mini chicken salad sandwiches for under $3, for those who prefer something that's more average but also not so hard on the wallet. Overall, this is probably my favorite deli in Bozeman, as Starky's isn't as good for getting a quick bite and tends to have fewer unusual but flavorful items. read more

We recently had the pleasure of working with and experiencing Food for Thought in Bozeman. It was outrageously delicious and beautifully served. The FFT staff took care of everything, including managing 2 different food allergies. **as the bride, it was very important to me to be able to enjoy my food without worry, and the FFT staff were so accommodating. They also worked with us to create a 'tapas like' menu as this is a love of ours. They came to our event, handled everything and cleaned up too. The servers were so polite and hepful. Bottom line, the food was out of this world delicious! Anytime we come back to Montana we will be using their company! Highly recommend. read more

BEYOND EXPECTATIONS! I contracted Food for Thought to prepare a private 12-course meal as a surprise proposal dinner for my girlfriend. We have traveled the world and dined at many dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants... our fine dining bar is set pretty high! Not only did Chef Austin and Maria rise to the challenge to replicate a restaurant experience and give us a meal to remember, they absolutely knocked it out of the park and gave us the best meal of our lives! From our first planning conversation, through multiple menu iterations and check-ins, to world-class execution in the kitchen, the attention to detail and true commitment to personalizing the event for us translated to an unforgettable experience that exceeded my expectations in every way. We had a small event for work last night and Food for Thought was SO accommodating in making food that fit the dietary needs of our staff (veterinarian, no gluten, no eggs) that pleased the taste buds of everyone. Emily and Maria were so easy to communicate with and work with, even on short notice. We had enchiladas and a salad... which sounds like it might be boring, but the sweet potatoes in the enchiladas made them a little different and really delicious and the salad knocked the socks off of all of us (sugared cranberries!). I've been to this sandwich shop several times, and this is what I've experienced: Good- 1) great atmosphere, location, and art 2) tasty food items; great fruit salad, curried tuna salad, soup The not-so-good- 1)On more than one occasion the staff has been disgruntled, with a "it's not my job" mentality. 2)They are often out of items-curried tuna, avocado,etc. This seems to be a regular occurrence, and is frustrating for regular patrons. I am not a restauranteur, but it seems like inventory needs to be monitored a little closer. 3) My sandwich today (The Veggie) was like a salad between two whole slices of bread; it promptly fell apart without the avocado (which they were out of and no one told me-I would've ordered something different) and I had to eat it with a fork. The homemade goddess dressing was thin and runny. Here's the thing: customer service and consistency are really important in ANY business. I think that this sandwich shop is really just secondary to the catering business. It seems like the staff thinks so, as well, and that's it's beneath them to make sandwiches. read more

We had the idea of Breakfast for Dinner (cause, honestly, who doesn't love breakfast?) and Emily was more than willing to craft a beautiful menu at a completely reasonable price. They went above and beyond on the actual day- providing things that weren't in the contract cause they were incredibly considerate, providing excellent service, and gave us the option (which we definitely chose) to have a professional bartender. I have a lot of silly dietary restrictions (thanks, allergies!) and FFT was more than willing to work me, while still keeping everything interesting enough for all our guests. So when we met with Emily at Food for Thought for a tasting, and were blown away by the flavors and freshness of the menu, we were still convinced it probably wouldn't be as good on the night of our wedding. Amazingly, it was better than we remembered! We received so many compliments about the food, it clearly exceeded our guests' expectations, and what more can you ask for? Food For Thought put on a spectacular celebration for my Husband's 50th birthday. The team was incredibly professional. From the moment I contacted them they responded promptly, answered all of my questions and helped me select the perfect menu for our birthday celebration which included 8 adults and 7 kids. They provided a detailed proposal that let me know exactly what to expect and there were no surprises. Everything that was promised was delivered. On the day of the dinner they showed up early, took care of our every need and the food was delicious. They cleaned the entire kitchen up and it was spotless. I ate at this deli while visiting a friend in Bozeman. My friend works at the Museum of the Rockies across the street and says great things about this deli and the premium quality of the meats and ingredients they use. I was with three friends from out of town and we all loved our sandwiches. I had a turkey on focaccia with thick cut, yummy bacon and an awesome avocado spread. The bread was fresh and delicious! Another friend had a ham and brie sandwich (with a gorgeous slice of fresh brie on it), which looked amazing! The sandwiches came in a trendy tin tray and I really enjoyed the presentation of the lunch. The sandwich was served with homemade corn chips and a pickle. Overall, a very good lunch - I will go back next time I'm in Bozeman and I would recommend this deli to others. read more

We ordered food for my baby's baptisim luncheon and it was sooo good. We had the chicken pot pie casserole, polenta bake with Italian sausage, fruit salad and Greek salad. Where Food For Thought shines, is in their catering. I hired them to cater my 150 person wedding. Jennifer, the owner/manager was always available to communicate, was punctual and very reliable. Most importantly the food was AMAZING. I have received compliments upon compliments about how perfectly our beef tenderloin and stuffed chicken were cooked, and how fresh and exciting all of the side dishes were. I cant say enough about how pleased I have been with Food For Thoughts performance at our wedding. I would recommend them highly. read more

Picked up a lunch to go and we enjoyed the sandwiches but things could have gone better. They were out of avocado, wheat bread, and prosciutto and all of those were listed with the sandwiches that we really wanted. Seems like most places would send someone down the street to pick a few things up from the market. My sandwich came with "Sweet and Spicy Slaw", which had absolutely no hint of spice to it. Soup of the day was good, but a bit too oily for our taste. And it had garlic in its name but not in its flavor profile. Pesto on the "Turkey Pesto" was very good. Thankfully we ordered that one without the mayo as I don't see why you would want "lite mayo" in addition to the pesto. In the end, we enjoyed what we ate but I'm not sure we would return. read more

Food for Thought catered our daughters wedding last week at the Hart Ranch in Mt. EVERYTHING about them is fabulous! The food was exceptionally delicious, creative and beautifully presented. Appetizers were plentiful and unique. The sit down dinners for 150 came out hot, juicy and all on time. Desserts were delicious and tasted home made! We are from NJ and have to say this was probably the best food we have ever had at a wedding, and there is a lot of good food in the NY - NJ area. They customized the menu so we could give our guests a nod to Montana, like using some Bison and huckleberry in the recipes. Staff was professional, friendly and always readily available!
