Before working with Stephanie, I was experiencing an uphill battle with my PCOS. When I finally…read moredecided to get professional help, I chose to work with Stephanie because I liked her holistic approach on treatment - I liked that she did comprehensive testing to help identify what exactly was causing my PCOS symptoms, helped me advocate for myself when talking to my doctor, and helped me make lifestyle changes that were tailored to my everyday life. My goal when I started working with her was to better understand my diagnosis and learn what I can do to minimize the symptoms, and that's exactly what she did. I was depressed and discouraged by the advice I was being given by my doctor and people online. I felt like my symptoms were getting worse and was losing hope in ever getting better. After working with Stephanie, I completely understand PCOS and I feel like I have the tools to help manage it. In 3 months I felt the beginning of a significant transformation. I wasn't expecting to lose much weight, but I've lost 10 pounds by making simple lifestyle and food changes. I started sleeping better and had more energy throughout the day. I learned that stress heavily impacts my physical health so I finally had the courage to seek mental health services, and I am better for it. My friends and family can see the changes in me and I have Stephanie to thank for that. The best thing about my journey with Stephanie is that she helped me realize that prioritizing care for oneself, setting healthy boundaries, and advocating for yourself is the best thing you can do for yourself. I think oftentimes we get caught up in caring for everyone else we forget to care for ourselves. I'm so grateful to have met her and to know that I have a lifelong resource of support and knowledge! If you have PCOS and want to understand more about your diagnosis and if you're trying to optimize your fertility, I would highly recommend working with her.

I spent years dealing with suspected hormonal imbalances and lots of "oh you're fine" comments from…read moredoctors when discussing health concerns.  I finally partnered with a fertility specialist, but was given a very cookie cutter approach: a quick diagnosis of PCOS, prescriptions and a plan for IVF if I wanted to get pregnant.  This process was not satisfying or helpful, so I reached out to Stephanie to work on a more holistic plan for problem solving and healing. There's always some sticker shock when approaching care outside of insured medical care, but once Stephanie and I completed our introductory interview, I knew I was willing to invest in the process.  This was an easy decision for me because Stephanie immediately presented herself as a thorough investigator, empathetic supporter, and passionate educator. Through testing, food journaling and regular sessions, Stephanie was able to provide me with a robust understanding of what was actually occurring within my body.  She beautifully explained so many complex health and nutritional topics and always empowered me to come up with new habits, choices and practices to address the root causes of my health concerns.  This collaborative process has ensured sustainable changes and lasting effects where modern healthcare did not, and that far exceeded my expectations of working with Stephanie!

I started to come to Uhling late last year. I am very happy with my consult, Alyssa. She goes…read moreabove and beyond to help me with my diabetes and eating. 2 weeks ago she sent me recipes to try and I have tried a couple of them. Very tasty and filling

I came to Uhling Registered Dieticians from a PCP referral for unhealthy eating rooted in anxiety,…read morebody image, food accessibility, and similar. I was hoping for knowledgeable information on nutrition, food psychology, and similar topics to become healthier. Weight loss was not my goal, but could be a side effect of an improved diet. Uhling's website included information on these topics, so I felt this would be a good fit. Their specialties include "Vegan & Vegetarian", "Adult Nutrition", "Eating Disorders," "& much more". (https://www.uhling.com/patients#NutritionCounseling) For context, I do not have an eating disorder, but I assumed this specialty meant they would be sensitive to body image and conversations surrounding eating and weight. At the start of my appointment, there was no sensitivity to body image, weight, mental health, or similar. The consultant immediately read my weight out loud, a number my PCP did not share with me. The consultant did not seem to notice this was upsetting and did not seem to notice a shift in my behavior or speaking. Most advice was very generic ("carry a water bottle during your day"), and rather than helping, made me feel guilty for not already doing those things. The advice did not consider what I said about my lifestyle/environment (i.e. "meal prep overnight oats" even though I stated I share an apartment with multiple roommates and do not have the space to meal prep). When I said I was vegetarian, the conversation immediately shifted to needing protein shakes. The consultant did not seem to believe me when I said I eat enough tofu/lentils/beans and already have enough protein in my diet. I felt I had to agree to drink protein shakes so we could move on from this topic. I felt there was no empathy or care about my environment or circumstances. I shared experiences revolving around food (for example, I did not have reliable access to vegetarian food for ~3 months, causing food anxiety in the moment and overeating later on). I tried to share these experiences to communicate why I was seeking nutrition advice, but this information felt brushed off. I did not feel the questions or conversation addressed my concerns. At one point, the consultant repeatedly said having more food choices would help me choose healthier foods. (I shared earlier in the session I feel so anxious about choosing what to eat that I skip meals.) It did not feel like I was actually listened to. I was also advised to keep a food journal to keep track of my food choices. In my experience, food journaling has led to restrictive and unhealthy eating. I thought my reaction to weight gain and description of body image issues would suggest this. I was taken aback by this recommendation. The next appointment I was scheduled for over 1 month out, which seemed too far to be helpful. I canceled this next appointment and chose not to continue treatment. In all, I walked away from the appointment with negative self-image thoughts instead of the valuable nutrition information I was hoping for. I still had to pay over $100 for this appointment. I would not recommend Uhling to anyone with food anxiety or dietary restrictions. I would not recommend Uhling to anyone who is looking for healthy eating advice instead of solely weight loss.

Shortly after starting, I became extremely sick with body aches, fatigue, bloating, stomach cramps, and other symptoms. I was told this was part of the detox process and pushed through for weeks, but the symptoms only worsened. When I went to my primary care doctor, my bloodwork showed major changes from my previous labs--very low sugar levels and very high iron levels. My doctor instructed me to stop all supplements, and within two weeks my levels returned to normal. When I reintroduced the supplements one at a time, I had bad reactions to all of them except vitamin D. Clearly, something in the products was causing serious health issues. To be fair, when things were going well at the beginning, the company was very responsive. However, once I became sick and raised concerns, that responsiveness disappeared. They did offer me a $500 refund for the unused supplements, but considering I paid $3,750 for the program, no other compensation was offered. That lack of follow-through and accountability was very disappointing, especially given the severity of the side effects. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this program. If you do decide to try it, I strongly urge you to proceed with caution.

The difference between my prior memberships and Lucas is the accountability factor and the added bonus of having a registered dietitian helping from a nutrition standpoint. No one at 24 Hour Fitness is holding you accountable to show up everyday, and no one at Orangetheory is delivering a workout that is tailored to your specific goals.
