All Irvine public schools have health rooms and health staff on campus. Stupid me -- I assumed that at the very least this so-called private school would have such a fundamental facility and staff. But no. Today I found out there's no health office and no sick room where a child can at least lie down for a while until a parent arrives. I'm in shock. What kind of risky, scammy school have I put my child into for the past 3 years? This campus just spent a lot of money on expansion and also raised tuition fees. It's ridiculous to find out that behind all those price increases and fancy upgrades, no one seems to care about students' health -- and none of that money appears to have gone toward improving health support for the kids. No health office. Not even one health staff member. Not even a sick room for students to rest. -- In response to your reply: Thank you for reminding me -- although your non-medical staff determined (since there is no health clerk or school nurse on campus) that "it's better to remain in an upright position in a chair, while ensuring attentive care and comfort," when I arrived, my pale six-year-old child was kneeling on the ground, coloring on a piece of paper and using a wooden bench next to the reception desk as a flat surface. There is no health clerk. The temporary reception teacher was busy with her own duties. I did not see any "assured attentive care and comfort." Instead, I observed teachers who appeared reluctant to be involved, likely because without a designated health staff member, temporarily caring for a sick child simply adds to their already full workload. Where is the "bed" or the "attentive care and comfort" you mentioned? All I saw was a small, cold wooden bench near the reception area, with people walking around. Considering the level of tuition families pay, our children deserve more than this. Three different staff members confirmed to me yesterday that there is no bed available for a sick student. Therefore, the only way I was able to learn that such an option supposedly exists was through a Yelp review. Reality is reality. Parents, please do your research before sending your child to a so-called private school: * Is there a health room or a designated sick resting area -- like those available in Orange County public schools? * Is there a school health clerk available on campus -- as in Orange County public schools? * Do teachers even know whether the so-called "bed for sick students" actually exists? Despite the amount of money families invest in a private school that lacks even fundamental health support, it is worth considering whether the absence of a basic health office or a health clerk could place students at greater risk in certain situations.

When you visit the campus, you will immediately notice the caring atmosphere because every staff member is amazing (shoutout to Dr. D and Mrs. Pedroza, co principals, for giving this school the big heart that it has)!! If you're on the fence, give them a chance by attending one of the campus events to hear what they have to offer and what sets them apart from other schools. For example, how many middle schools offer international travel opportunities? My daughter went on a 10+ day trip to Europe and made wonderful memories with her friends. Again, this school has it all (including pre-AP!) and so many parents I've talked to all agree it was amazing for each of their kids. No regrets!

Our family spent more than $8,000 between club fees, tournament travel, and related expenses after joining Left Coast. Before signing up, we were given the clear impression by owner Darin McBain that participating in his program would put our daughter in a strong position to make her school volleyball team. We understood his message to be that girls who joined his club would make their school teams. That absolutely did not happen. One of our biggest concerns is the amount of influence Darin appears to have within the local school volleyball community. Based on what we experienced and were told, we came away believing that he plays a major role in the local volleyball pipeline. From our perspective, it feels like a monopolized and closed system where families can believe they need to join Left Coast and spend thousands of dollars because doing so may improve their child's chances of making a school team. That perception is extremely powerful when parents are making expensive decisions based on what they believe will help their child succeed. This was especially troubling because we felt that school volleyball opportunities were being used as a major selling point for joining the club. Parents need to understand before paying thousands of dollars that participation in a private volleyball club cannot guarantee that a child will make a school team. Even more concerning to us is that Left Coast has been publicly listed using the same address as Beckman High School, while Darin has also been involved with the school's volleyball program. As parents, that raises serious questions about the separation between a private, fee-based volleyball business and a public-school athletic program. Why would TUSD allow this arrangement? What safeguards are in place to prevent conflicts of interest? How does the district ensure that students who do not pay thousands of dollars to participate in Left Coast receive the same opportunity during school tryouts and team selection? Parents deserve transparency. Our daughter's team was coached by Marcos Sanchez, and our experience with his coaching was extremely horrible. In our opinion, playing time was heavily concentrated among a small group of favored players while others were repeatedly left on the sidelines with very limited opportunities to develop and contribute. Several parents became frustrated and openly questioned coaching decisions during tournaments. Then, in the middle of the season, Marcos quit coaching the team. What made the situation worse was the lack of communication from Left Coast afterward. We received no explanation from Darin regarding the coaching change, no adjustment to what families had paid, no refund, and no compensation despite families paying thousands for the season. When school volleyball tryouts arrived, multiple girls from the club did not make their school teams. This was completely inconsistent with the expectations we felt were created when we joined. We were then told that some players could consider trying out at another school. For many families, that was not realistic because students cannot simply attend or play for any school they choose without meeting residency, transfer, and eligibility requirements. Parents should understand this clearly: joining a private volleyball club does not guarantee your child a place on a school volleyball team, regardless of what Darin may imply during the sales process. Our daughter invested her time, effort, and emotions into this program. As parents, we invested more than $8,000 because we believed Left Coast would provide professional coaching, player development, communication, and a positive experience. Instead, we walked away extremely disappointed with the coaching, communication, value, and expectations that were created. The most upsetting part was watching the impact this experience had on the confidence of young athletes who simply wanted an opportunity to improve and compete. If you are considering Left Coast Volleyball, ask very specific questions before paying anything. Get every promise in writing. Ask how playing time is determined, what happens if a coach leaves during the season, what refund policy applies, and what relationship the club's coaches and ownership have with the school volleyball programs your child hopes to join. Most importantly, do not assume that spending thousands of dollars with a private club guarantees anything when it comes to a public-school team. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Left Coast Volleyball. I also believe TUSD owes parents clear answers about how private clubs, school coaches, district facilities, tryouts, and team selections are kept separate, transparent, and fair. Same on you Darin. And also to TUSD for allowing this kind of scheme to happen on our district!

I had a good experience with almost all of my teachers (though I had a couple distinguishably quirky ones). I feel that the technology and science aspects were very helpful (I don't know anyone else who used Blackboard before college!). I had a great experience going through the drama program 6th - 8th grade. I loved going to Catalina, Astro Camp, SeaWorld, and going on snowboard trips. The campus is beautiful now. You should've seen it when the school opened back up :) Overall, I appreciate the time and effort of the staff from 1997-2003. Thanks!
