this school makes me depressed as hell i hate the way people think at this school and i hate how the teachers teach they don't listen or consider how the student is feeling i really hate this school and it makes me hate school in general everybody at this school is also very backstabbing as well. There was also a point in time i talked to ms.velani however you spell that weird name she told me i would never be anything in life and to come back in 10 years and i would have nothing because i have nothing going on in life (this was last year when i was mentally drained) i didn't say anything i just walked out the office and proceeded to go to my sixth period. fast forward 1 year later i probably made her school paycheck in under 1 week lol i hate the way the teachers act at this school there is only 3-4 teachers at this school. ms velani should be fired, i don't know why she talked to me like that. she yelled at me saying i wouldn't be shit in a few years now i make her paycheck in a week. IF YOU WERE BULLIED or KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN BULLIED, PLEASE READ! I was a freshman at this school in 1997. I was bullied by many students both male and mostly female. We were separated into academies, which required you to have the same classmates for math, english, and science. Imagine getting bullied three periods out of the school day and inbetween each period you have to pass by them. My homework would get thrown away and they would draw inappropriate pictures on my assignments that had to be graded by my classroom peers. My papers would be ripped if I passed them forward. Sometimes, my name would be erased or scratched off of my papers. I was made fun of verbally and by laughter and by expressions on their faces. I had paper balls thrown at me. I was constantly tripped on purpose when walking my assignments up to my teachers desk. One time in particular, a boy named James spat on me in the classroom. Mr. Burk did nothing to stop this bullying! I would shout at my peers to stop harassing me, but then Mr. Burk would turn around and yell back at me, instead of punishing the initiator. I believe that he did nothing because he did not want the popular kids to raise hell with him, but that's just my opinion. Mr. Burk also let it be known to us that he is a proud Athiest. Now that I am much older and now that I am a parent, I think this is an absolutely inappropriate conversation to discuss with students in a classroom. I was not a bad kid, and never looked for trouble as I never had bad intentions. I started getting followed home and one time a boy named Brandon took my keys from me and never gave them back. He said he'd give them back if I were to give him my money or to have sex with him. These students would wait for me after school. I would hide in the girls bathroom and they would just wait. One day, Brandon bit my shoulder so badly that the scar from his teeth were visible for a long time (I cannot remember how long they showed). Some days I was able to come home right away, and most days I would do whatever I could to avoid the students harassing me. This included, finding a safe place to dwell until I seen that everyone has left. I started carrying a pocket knife with me to school. Eventually, I end up getting into a physical fight with some girls that surrounded me, right after being picked on in Mr. Burk's classroom. I was taunted by more than 10 girls who surrounded me trying to intimidate me. They would follow me to my next class, making it very uncomfortable by laughing and making obvious expressions and by shouting rude comments to me. Something came over me and I snapped and I hit the main girl who was encouraging the others to taunt me. Two of the other girls jumped on me and I do not know how, but I was able to fight them all off. The main girl was hurt badly by me and I am not proud that it came to this. The "security guard" watched the whole awful event unfold. She was excited to see us fight. I seen her laughing out of the corner of my eye after the janitor pulled us apart. Me and the security guard made eye contact. In that moment she knew that I knew that she was no better than the students who were bullying me. Coincidentally, my mother was at the school talking to the principal about the concerns she was having for me at school, while this fight was unfolding. I was suspended, then was expelled. I had to go to the school board to talk about the incident and to plead my case. I was truthful and honest with them. Carol Love, who was the principal at the time asked me this question: "So, do you think that it was peer pressure that caused you to get into this fight?" I responded by saying, " How can it be peer-pressure that lead me to fight when all I have is my peers being pressured to fight me? I don't understand that at all! " My mom, let out a sob, and I suppose my honest response felt credible to the school board, so therefore they reinstated my status so that I was no longer expelled. I did not want to go back to that school because I had suffered so much already. I end up going to San Juan school district. I know this is a long review, but bullying is real and it's important to know that we must be open, inviting and transparent with our children so that they are not going through this alone, especially if the staff is not acting responsibly to solve the issue. I hope my story helps someone who may have experienced the same. This school is total but rack with hotdog in between. The teachers don't know how to teach and the school spends way too much money on education which all they really need is some solid teachers and not some random person that doesn't know how to handle a class of students, the band equipment is trash they haven't updated it in most likely 18 years and the tubas smell like dog piss. read more

Once upon a time this was a quality, spirited high school in a nice enough neighborhood that produced future doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other educated professionals. These days, dress codes prohibiting certain gang-related colors and wrought iron fences surrounding campus stand as a reminder that we aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto. The dilapidated neighborhood isn't a desirable place to live anymore, so the quality of families and students going to Foothill has greatly decreased. I'm sure there is still the select group of AP kids who will graduate and make their alma mater proud, but otherwise, I think this place has passed its glory days. This is a good school - you can definitely get a good education there and any review saying otherwise is probably bogus or ill-informed. I finished in 2004 and my sisters kid finished last year. As with anything, the effort you put in is what makes the difference. I put in the effort and my teachers were more than helpful. There have been some changes over the years but nothing to stop from sending your kid there. Pros: I had 4-5 awesome teachers there and a helpful principal. The school offered a lot of interesting classes - classes that prepared me for college and for life in general. I was admitted into all of the colleges that I applied to. My sisters kid is going to Cal. Foothill typically have good sports teams, especially basketball so there is that aspect to enjoy (or participate). Cons: One of the surrounding areas isn't nice. The nearby high school, Highlands, was ghetto and in a big way. I don't imagine this being different today. Other: This was a middle class area for decades and it slowly deteriorated starting in the 80's with cutbacks in military spending and the base closing. A lot of immigrants from Europe started moving into the area in the late 90's / mid 2000's. The school is ethnically mixed. Dress codes at Foothill are meant to reduce the shame that some kids feel when they cannot afford trendy or stylish clothing. There is NOT a gang problem at the school. You don't need to be a genius to be successful, you just need to work hard and that goes for any high school that you attend or send your kid to. read more
