Not wanting to be backpacking to an alpine wilderness lake when a little rain predicted became a bigger 6 hour lightning storm, we opted to see the adult version of the Flynn Creek Circus's "Desert Myth" performance. The audience seating inside the tent were not the typical single seats, only, arrangement . Seats were sold as bench/folding chair table lots closer to the stage, stool/tall bar table lots, or as individual folding chairs. It actually makes total sense as people often enjoy shows with a few friends. The performance in the evening was the adult version of the show. A little more skin is showed, and a few more adult joke content. The performance lasted 2 hours and was very entertaining! Well worth the ticket price. There were some aerial acts, some juggling acts, and some cactus clowning. Some of the aerialists had quite electrifying performances!

The Ukiah Symphony is a community orchestra, with most of the musicians local amateurs. They present four concerts a year at the Mendocino Community College Little Theater. A typical professional symphony orchestra will have 80 to 100 musicians. At a recent performance, the Ukiah Symphony could muster only 37. They played Beethoven's Fourth Symphony with only a dozen violinists. An early Romantic symphony would have played this piece with 50 stringed instruments; here there were 20 or so. As a consequence, the music sounded thin. This is not to criticize; they do very well with what they have. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Ukiah on a weekend when they are playing. Check the website for dates and tickets.

The experience of being able to wander around any time of the day and into the evening to experience people playing, dancing to, and singing music from so many cultures is just a magical experience. So far, I've taken Irish flute lesson, Irish/Galatian/Balkan/Swing dance lessons. I've had a chance to play with Hurdy Gurdy, Galatatian tamborine - and this is just so far. The opportunity to learn from any one 80 instructors teaching 139 workshops is such an amazing opportunity. Every evening there are performances and amazing dances to live music with hundreds of other enthusiasts. The question is not what am I going to do today, it is what do I have to skip this year ; )

When entering the center, there are many attendants who are very helpful and guide you to where you need to go for your seats. The concessions are very reasonably priced and you can even purchase a reusable cup that you can bring to other events. The whole center is very well kept and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful at the event, whether serving us drinks or helping us find our seats. The venue was plain looking both inside and outside. The seats in the auditorium (Ruth Finley Person Theater) were basic but not uncomfortable. And the view, even from the last row in the back on the lower level, was decent. Sound from the stage was fine, clear enough that I could hear every single word the comedian used to keep the crowd rolling with laughter, including myself of course. Good times!

They play was outstanding and the entire group was so friendly and treated us like we were very special guests. Highly recommended. Inexpensive and well worth the trip.
