Anyone reading this review is facing something heartbreaking. I could say the loss of a pet, but to…read moreus, this was the loss of a family member. I know many people feel that way about the animals they have the privilege of caring for. We had only three or four days to make this decision because our dog's condition declined so rapidly after we learned she was dying. During that time, I was comparing Home With You and Dr. Manetta LaVergne with Lap of Love. From my very first phone call with Dr. LaVergne, I knew she was someone special. While I was still gathering information and trying to make an impossible decision, she was kind, patient, compassionate, and never made me feel rushed. When she came to our home, she was exactly the same. Before beginning, she gently explained what euthanasia is and walked us through every step of the process so we knew what to expect. She gave us as much time as we needed before each step and even stepped out of the room to give our family privacy while we said our goodbyes. During the process, our dog had a bowel movement, and Dr. LaVergne handled it quickly, discreetly, and with such dignity that it never detracted from the moment. She made a clay paw print for us, shaved and saved a lock of our dog's fur in a baggy for us, and coordinated everything with the cremation service. She also explained the cremation options and communicated our wishes directly to them. For comparison, Lap of Love offered the same services, including cremation coordination and memorial keepsakes. However, with Dr. LaVergne's our total after everything was $300 less. That said, cost was not the deciding factor. If I hadn't felt completely comfortable with Dr. LaVergne caring for our dog in front of our entire family--including our children--I would have gladly paid more for someone else. This is one of the most important moments you'll ever experience, and choosing the right person matters far more than the price. Because of Dr. LaVergne, we were able to say goodbye to our dog in the comfort of our home, surrounded by everyone who loved her. We held her, pet her, spoke softly to her, and looked into her eyes so that the last thing she saw was her family. It was as peaceful and beautiful as such a heartbreaking moment could possibly be. A few days later, Dr. LaVergne sent us a handwritten sympathy card. She is truly an angel on earth for providing this service. If you find yourself in the heartbreaking position of needing in-home euthanasia for a beloved pet, I cannot recommend Dr. Minetta LaVergne highly enough. She gave our family an incredible gift during one of the hardest days of our lives, and I will always be grateful.

In April of 2023, I received the unfortunate news that my 11.5 year old, Bruno, had a nasal tumor…read morethat was expanding pretty aggressively. His quality of life was starting to slip slightly and on his bad days or nights, he'd have some pretty significant 'bleeding from the nose' episodes. Once the specialists diagnosed the issue, and told me that it would be be wise to 'make arrangements' for him, I scoured the internet for a compassionate, experienced, person who would come to the house and make his passing as painless and pleasant for him, as possible. I'm so fortunate that I stumbled across Dr. LaVergne. Her compassion and commitment for her job are evident from the moment we first interacted via email and phone. She was willing to move mountains in her own schedule if I said that Bruno was deteriorating rapidly (which fortunately was not the case, so we scheduled 3-4 days out, but her willingness to broach the topic speaks volumes to the kind of person and professional that she is). We set an appointment for May 1 and she gave me ideas on how to spend our last few days together, as well as the types of food that Bruno might enjoy while she put him to sleep. I could share a pretty extensive play-by-play of how the hour went--but I'll spare everyone the details, and maybe save myself a few tissues in the process too! Dr LaVergne is a very special person. If you are at the juncture where you've got to make this very difficult decision, do yourself a favor and choose Dr LaVergne. The days leading up to Bruno's passing were brutal, but I will always look back on his actual passing as such a peaceful, spiritual experience--thanks in large part to Dr LaVergne. Bruno was a special pup--most folks assured me after he passed that he was so lucky, because "you gave him such a great life"--ironically, the opposite was true. I was definitely the lucky one.

I knew immediately that he deserved to pass in his home, on his bed surrounded by the people he loves the most. This afternoon, Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice came to the house and Dr. Will helped us through the process. Eli transitioned to the next stage at 2:30pm in the most peaceful of ways, surrounded by an enormous amount of love, lots of kisses and in my arms with my husband petting him the whole time. I can't say enough about the entire process. The phone staff is incredible, caring, comforting and patient. The follow up emails are just the right amount of info when you're overwhelmed. They also have anticipatory and post-loss group support and I've joined 2 and plan to join 1 per week until I can cope on my own. It's a free service that is immensely helpful as you battle with when and why. I don't understand how these hospice vets can do their jobs, but they are angels on earth and I give Dr. Will so.many.hugs and accolades. He was informative, NEVER time pressured me and handled everything with such compassion and dignity. My biggest concern was that I was doing it too soon and o was pleased that he literally addressed every concern and evaluated my pup's issues before giving any advice. He never pressured me, but talked me through everything. In the end, it was my call and I was given all the time I needed. My ONLY complaint is that I wish I could take my other animals to Dr. Will on a regular basis. He is my kind of doctor. Hard decision. Terrible need, but I can't recommend enough.

The vet would t recognize their puppy shots they already had. She insisted they needed to be redone. once all the puppy schedule was Redone. I told them which of the other dog vaccines I DIDNT want them to have. The vet ignored me and gave them to the puppies anyway. I was t informed they were given. until leaving and they gave me the bill. I continued taking the puppies for their check up. Once they were old enough. I wanted to have their rabies shots done. The vet kept saying next visit. This went on for multiple visits. I ended up having to take all 3 of them to tractor supply pet clinic to get their required rabies shots. Later I called and wanted to make an appointment to have them spayed & neutered. I was told they can't come in to the hospital to be spayed and neutered until they get about 5 or 6 other vaccines from them. The only required vaccine is a rabies shot. So I asked the person on the phone if I could continue bringing them for their regular checkups. The woman on the phone said " yes, definately " so I said I can bring them to your clinic, but you won't spay or neuter them until I give in, and give them a slew of vaccines they don't need. She actual said " yes that is correct. I then told her to remove us from their registered pets. We will never return. this vet withheld their rabies shot all for another visit. Not considering what the puppies needed. Puppies need to start grooming at a young age g age to get accustomed to the noise and the procedures. I wasn't able to take my puppies even to a groomer, because this damn vet would t give them a rabies shot until she could bleed me dry. my Biggest mistake ever, was going to Santee animal hospital

The staff at Santee Animal Hospital have been very very helpful and accommodating to get me appointments for treatment. I feel the fees are very reasonable, and they do rabies shots, flea treatments, and a general wellness check. The first of what will probably be six or seven has gone through it, and she was very happy to be back home. She's the sweetest one and easiest to catch. You'll notice in the pictures that the tip of her ear has been removed. This is a sign to anyone who catches her that she's already been fixed. My next challenge is to trap and treat the rest of them. Wish me luck!

More worried about collecting $80 Here's the full story of Reese's end of life today. For a year I've been concerned about her pain and didn't want her suffering. Her Veterinarian was certain it was arthritis and could be managed. 6 months + of monthly injections and adding 2 more pain killers over that time nothing seemed to improve. Today was her arthritis injection appointment and having physically carried her in and outdoors the last 2 days to potty I called ahead and notified them it was time to end her suffering. A different Veterinarian in the practice saw her this morning and decided it her legs were "very bad and most likely advanced cancer" and was certainly the best decision. Heres what hurts, month after month after month of $200 vet technician appointments for arthritis treatments that apparently gave her no relief. The money isn't the issue as much as her extended suffering is if the diagnoses was that off. So, im sitting on the floor, my back against the public hall door of the examination room, her head in my lap. The Doc had given her a light sedative to relieve her anxiety so they could insert an IV needle and left the room saying she'd get sleepy in anout 10 mins. So im speaking softly to her rubber her ears, saying my goodbye's. This is her last 10 mins of knowing me, a time to be at peace and say goodbyes. Suddenly the door hits me in the back, its the front desk cashier. She says to me through the crack in the door, Mr Osward its gonna be 80 dollars today can i get your credit card or check if your using one and ill ring you up? "Are you serious I responded. I'm on the floor tears running down my face, my dogs head in my lap, her last moments of consciousness on earth, my last moments to console and comfort her and they interrupt it to get paid for a service they havent even performed yet...she hasnt even been put to sleep yet. I tossed a credit card through the crack in the door telling her to charge what she wanted. So thats the last few minutes with Reeses and the memory im probably stuck with. Not the peaceful sorrowful last few minutes i wished for either of us. 16 yrs, 3 generations of dogs, this is NOT Dr. Charles Hewitts Westside Veterinary Clinic in any form now.
