While many newsagents stock solely tinned and convenience food, Holborns also carried a large selection of fresh fruit, veg, meats and refrigerated foods. I remember stopping by there when I needed that certain ingredient for a recipe, thinking no way they'll have this, but I'll try and sure enough, there it was. Hooray! They carry fireworks and Christmas trees during the appropriate times of year. They also offer a newspaper delivery service, and, if I'm remembering right, a grocery delivery service for a small fee.

The have a reasonable selection of fresh fruit and vegeatables, as well as the standard tins and packets you expect from a convienience store, as well as a good range of magazines and newspapers. The staff are very friendly , and keep the shop neat and tidy. The best thing is that the prices are reasonable, perhaps not as cheap as a supermarket but so much more convienient for bits and pieces.

For example today I wanted plain A4 brown envelopes, but they didn't have any, which you would assume was a necessity. The newsagents itself carries all the national and local newspapers, but doesn't have a wide selection of magazines. You are not likely to find any special interest magazines here, just your national well known ones such as Hello, and their ilk. The shop offers newspaper delievery and they are pretty efficent, you are likely to get your papers before 8am or so. This is the newsagents in Woodhatch (the village it is located in) that you are likely to go for post office or stationary needs.

I went back a few times recently and I was shocked to see how badly stocked the shop was. I brought one of those part baked baguettes and when I got it home is was mouldy. I will certainly not be returning here. Such a shame to see how the shop has changed over the years. It was so handy to be able to park outside, and such a shame it has gone downhill.

This shop was ran into the ground by June and Stan Roper, a husband and wife team who had no clue…read moreas to how a local shop should be run, i cannot possibly include everything that this pair did wrong , but scrapping the post office, newspaper deliveries and national lottery within 2 years of taking over , was not their best of moves, on Xmas eve 2013 , they finally handed the shop over to an Asian fella, who will hopefully turn the shop around, he sure has his work cut out, but , hes been there a week and still charging £1.10 for a litre of milk, i noticed the first and only change so far is all of the alcohol shelves and fridges are well stocked, but in general , the shop is still much the same old mess , only time will tell i guess.
