Prices are high here, ultimately you're paying for convenience, if you have more time, you can pick up 90% of the items here at a fraction of the cost, even just a couple of minutes down the road. This is the case at pretty much every WHSmith Travel location. There is a Nescafe Azera coffee machine here, obviously, you have the usual suspects inside the station, but this coffee machine is especially useful if you're in a hurry ahead of getting a train, and don't have time to wait at Starbucks/Costa etc. The checkout area seemed a little too compact for my liking, it became a little messy rather quickly, given the size of the store, it's almost unacceptable as they could easily improve the area. 4*

The store is well organised, so it is easy to find things within it, and there is a clear sign which states what you can find on each level by the staircase. They do have a habit of moving things around though, which makes it slightly more difficult to find things if you always expect them to be where you're used to. The move of the Woking Post Office to the lower concourse has been controversial, and arguably not beneficial to either the post office or Whsmiths. The service is generally slow and crowded, with few windows open at the same time. It is also poor to access for less able people, such as children or the elderly. The staff have always been friendly and helpful to customers.

I was able to pick up a ream of printer paper as well as a nice computer headset (that they did NOT have in PC World!). Prices are good, if you stick to the discounted and buy-one-get-one items. There are also random stacks of book collections, shrink-wrapped for £5. Otherwise, they're the standard list price. The shop is on two floors, with an escalator to go up (nice) and stairs to go down (amusing, in a Las Vegas casino "keep the customers in" way). Plenty of staff who are approachable and happy to not only point you to what you are seeking, but they will go there with you to make sure you can find it.

This branch has the full range of magazines, with an audio and DVD section, as well as an extensive range of the expected stationery and cards. I fled there after fighting in vain with the excitable 14-year olds in the adjacent Clinton's for a Valentine card for my other half, and here found both better choice and a comparative oasis of calm. The only criticism is that they didn't have enough staff on the tills.

The aisles are narrow and so if there are a couple of people down an aisle it is hard to get by. The staff are quite helpful and friendly.

This is a big branch of HMV with a great range of dvds, computer games and books. They often have…read morethings on offer so you can pick up a bargain if you time it right. The shop is well laid out although it can get hot and cramped at busy times and the aisles are not very large and they have made the most of selling space. The staff always look as though they are enjoying working there and are on hand with advice. Overall a good large HMV branch but I would avoid Saturdays and lunchtimes.

This is not a large store as compared to others in London (such as Piccadilly) but I can generally find what I need. The employees are usually very helpful. London is currently in Tier 4 Lockdown (all non-essential shops are closed) just days before Christmas. Waterstones has joined other merchants in a "Click & Collect" in which you can order what you need on-line; they confirm the inventory and purchase with an email; they call for payment information; and then you pickup. There's a lot of competition in the crowded book/newsagent/stationery market but good old WH Smith…read morehas been around since I was a nipper(it's a wonder it still survives;-) I remember getting very excited about choosing my reading treat there when I was a kid The chain has experienced tough times and has had to adapt. Their Kingston upon Thames branch is sizeable: on two levels - newspapers, magazines, cards, confectionery and soft drinks upstairs - along with some books on promotion. Downstairs there's a decent-sized 'branch' of Costa Coffee, books for all ages, and most tastes; DVDs, stationery supplies and lottery tickets. It's usually clean, orderly and pretty well-arranged. There are some great, friendly, helpful staff there too and an 'intriguing' range of book signings. Today, I chanced upon the Fonz himself beside his collection of Hank Zipzer children's books. He looked, happy, healthy and elegantly middle-aged. An eager queue (from tiny to tall) had formed waiting to meet him; the event was well-organised. Henry Winkler was on excellent form, enjoying repartee and a laugh with his fans new and old. Not sure about leading the queue for their next celeb event, later in July, with lovely Katie Price (aka Jordan); readers please note: the occasion permits a maximum purchase of three of her books.
