I wouldn't trust anyone other than Davis to cut my very sensitive 4 year old's hair. Davis is technically skilled and highly precise with his craft, but he's also incredibly gentle, kind, and engaged with my son. I appreciate that he explains what he's doing and always lets my son know or asks permission before he starts working in a sensitive area (like around his ears) or before turning on the noisy clippers. If you're a guy who just wants a no-muss no-fuss barber shop, this is a place to check out. For the adult and children. I've been going there for about 3 years now. I started bringing my almost three year old in for his hair cuts. He has sensory issues and is not to fond of the clippers and touching his head. Owner Rob, was simply amazing with him. What a difference a few years have made. After checking it out awhile ago as part of a long search for a Barbershop I can confidently say that this place is legit! Very capable barbers who will remember you and your preferences and do all they can to make your visit comfortable and pleasant. I've never had to wait to long for a haircut (I try to going during off peak times), but don't imagine they turn too many folks away. I've had my last haircut at this establishment today. I am not fussy, I take which ever barber is up next, the problem is that the barbers are revolving and consistency is non-existent. At the conclusion they give you a frontal view, a problem when do not have glasses on, asking how is it. Of course it is a bit after the fact so what does one say? Nice people but be careful, do not say " do your best", it may be their best but not the best. I wish to retract the above review as upon reflection the problem was in my direction and not the novice barbers implementation of it. Owner Rob contacted me and offered to repair and refund but time will bring growth of my hair and I got the curt I asked for. Sorry for my critical impulse. read more

My regular barbershop has some scheduling issues right now due to some personal matters. Thought I'd try this place out. What the heck right? Good price, good reviews, and they take walk-ins. What could go wrong?... Worst haircut I've had in a decade. It's hard to tell the quality of a haircut right after it's done, it looked okay when I left. After showering however, it's pretty bad. Choppy, inconsistent, and I had to trim up some fly aways. I feel like I could of given myself a better haircut. I guess I shouldn't have given this guy the benefit of the doubt. I was admittedly a little concerned when my cut was allegedly complete before the other guy in the chair, who was already in the process of, when I walked in. Never again will I get my haircut by a bald guy. Update: Rob the owner reached out to me after I posted my initial review. He offered to fix my cut and refund my money. (He did not cut my hair initially) I took him up on his offer. I am highly satisfied with the re-do of my... do. Bad the worker was really grumpy and not doing what I told him to he cut my hair without even touching his bow and even though I told him my hair is rough he didn't wet it with his spray so it was painful. They offered us a refund and they ware really nice. They are a good barber shop for typical hairstyle my dad has a typical hair style (short,medium) and he loves the place but there not that good on unusual hairstyles like long and thick hair that I have. read more

Summary - A terrific traditional barber shop. When moving to a new town, two of the hardest things to find are a new dentist and a new barber. I moved to Grand Rapids 4 months ago and have been going to a local 'chain' barber shop. I'll just leave that experience at the girls cutting the hair were pretty but the haircuts were not great. Yesterday I stopped by Forest Hills Barber Shop. Great experience. Yes, it had the stuff you'd expect from a barber shop; autographed sports memorabilia and a couple of flat panel TV's with ESPN. But it also had the stuff you SHOULD expect but seldom get from a barber anymore; a great haircut, hot lather, straight razor and a shoulder massage at the end. After 4 months, I can now say I've found my barber. Now I just need the dentist. read more

Enjoyed my visit to Forest Hills Barber Shop. As you can see in the photos Pete keeps a really clean & comfortable shop. The waiting chairs are very well cushioned--not that you will wait long. The wait was short, but if you feel like reading there is a decent selection of magazines to choose from. The hair cut itself was very solid. Quick. Efficient. Quality. Those are the three words I would use to describe my haircut and experience. The day after I decided to have the sides cut because I wasn't satisfied with my style-as I requested them to be untouched-but Pete cut the sides and I left a very satisfied customer. Amazing service. I actually went in to ask for a fix on a hair cut I had the day before. I cut about 10 in of my hair at a salon asking for a pixie cut. The cut came out different than I wanted too... so I went in to Forest Hills Barber Shop hoping they could help me out. Pete is a very affable guy who will make good conversation (if that is your interest; some guys don't like chatting during a haircut, and that's fine, too).
