It's a real shame, since it's one of the few pubs where you can sit out in the sun in the late afternoon - the other pubs' outdoor areas are in the shade at this time. I went there a year or two ago, and the manager had written a letter ticking off the staff for being incompetent and had pinned it to the front door for all to see! Shocking! The staff are professional, the beer is fresh, the interior is tidy, and the pub now attracts a diverse range of people, making it a pretty comfortable place for pretty much anyone. It's a great meeting place for anyone living in the village. It's still a bland family-friendly chain pub with cheap food, but... a fairly decent and spacious one. There were two draught ales on tap - both Greene King (landlord) beers... and in good condition, but... come on guys! Let's have ONE decent guest ale! The outdoor seating in front of the pub is in full sun until late evening in the summer, but with speeding traffic rat-running through the village, and a lack of green space, it's not as nice as it could be. But I think there's a back garden too; I haven't explored. All in all, a safe bet.

The beer festivals they hold every few months are the highlights from a beer point of view, but they are a reliable source of quality ale all year around. Otter Ale, a favourite of mine from Devon, is their regular ale (house ale). Their other ales are ever changing, including one specified guest which carries a 20p reduction for CAMRA members. They also serve proper cider. Keen interest in music from the pictures adorning the walls to the juke box to the, at times unusual, DJs that perform. People are occasionally foxy but never snooty at the Snooty Fox!
