All of the Foresters Arms Staff were outstanding and very helpful from start to finish, The food was great as was the on point service on the day, prior communication even with the time difference went smoothly. I arranged for the extended family to meet, 13 of us in total and we could not have been happier with the result! a great venue, perfect atmosphere, excellent food and super cheerful and helpful service, the day went without a hitch and my 90 year old mother could not have been happier!! and neither could the rest of the family. I highly recommend this establishment for any event you may need to hold or just to drop in for a drink & a bite to eat, the food is great, the beer & other drinks are well kept and great, the service is exemplary and to top it all off the locals are really friendly and nice. There's only three types of conversation in the world: adult to adult, adult to child and child to child. It was child to child a real life Waiting For Godot - they engaged in repetition with long stretches of inaction personifying boredom, the meaninglessness of life, and the human condition of idle without purpose. I suppose what one person finds boring, another may see as a powerful representation of existence and they reflected that for me - it was an hour that felt like being nowhere at all. Samuel Beckett would likely have smiled. Still it was a way to sustain the mundane in England's green and pleasant land, and you thought I was just there for a pint?

They may not have the best selection of lager but once you're there you don't mind. They have a lovely, green and well taken care of beer garden. This is a big bonus, especially during spring and summer. There is a roof over it, so even if it rains you can still enjoy sitting outdoors. We almost always get free treats as well; chips, sausages, mini burgers, sandwiches etc. which is very nice, they are all very good at making you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. If you haven't been yet, give them a chance, pop in, you wont regret it!

I left the main street though, making my way towards Two Brewers, comfortable with the idea that if it wasn't what I wanted, I'd just return to the hub of town. Then I made my way down a quiet street, past an old cemetery in an even older churchyard. I continued on, noticing the little lights that stood outside buildings older than my last few generations of ancestors. Two Brewers stood at the end of this road, announcing itself as "the oldest pub in Marlow". With its comically low ceiling in parts I can only assume that past generations were Lilliputian. I came only for alcohol but the gastropub menu soon called my name. Two Brewers serves really delicious food if the Chickpea & Spinach Curry (£9.95) and the Steak & Ale Pie (£11) were any indicator. While enjoying these dishes and accompanying brews, Two Brewers grew livelier, filled with locals, and before long one stood beside my table. "I saw you on the train today. How'd you wind up here?" he asked, baffled. His comment and the conversation which followed solidified my hunch that I'd successfully found a spot that the tourists don't usually find. I wore it like a badge of pride. When in Marlow, take the time to seek out Two Brewers. It's a bit off the beaten path but you can be back to that path in minutes.
