    Very cool store front

What more could you ask for in a record store. From walking in you already get a throwback trip back to the 80's. They have everything you could want. Records, to cd's, to my favorite cassettes and a motherload of them as well. This place is huge and I easily spent 2 hours here getting lost in all this gem has to offer.

Forever Young is as massive as you've seen (or hey, if you haven't seen photos, it's a huge store!) For this reason alone, you're bound to walk out of the store happy, with at least a few records. When you walk in, you'll get that feeling of 'where do I start?' Don't worry, it will be ok. I took my first left, skipped the RSD section (pretty big, FYI) and went to the Xmas section. It too was also big, and where it was after the holiday, I thought maybe I might be able to find some cool titles. I walked away with one record I had been looking for and another I didn't know I was looking for but surely needed. After that, I continued onto a 90s/2000s section that, from what I could tell, was a mix of multiple mainstream genres like rock, pop, hip/hop, r&b, etc. Again, we're talking about a lot of records so I made the strategic choice to only look for items on my want list. I did this for the subsequent sections (a 80s/70s combo and 60s/50s combo) and still spent most of my 2 hours in the store in this manner. It was after going through these sections that I looked to the ground with more attention, where I suspected other genres laid their claim. I ended up finding way too many records to choose from for my partner, and some other sections that again were so big that I wasn't even prepared to dive in and dig. When I was finally ready to checkout, my sister (who was also shopping with me) mentioned she had got a punch card, which gives you some money off as you spend a certain amount on used records. She offered hers up to me for my purchase. I didn't pay much attention to the exact parameters, but I got $40 off which was much appreciated (especially considering pricing, which I will get to at the end.) As I was checking out, I noticed the collector's room and took a look at that before I left the store. While there was some interesting stuff in there, none of it was anything I was really looking for (especially not at the higher range.) Back on pricing, I did have a little bit of a shock when I saw that basically every record I picked up was $30 or $35. That's definitely what I'm used to paying back home for new records but not so much for regular used vinyl. This wasn't completely surprising, as I had bought some stuff from them online before, and was certainly softened by the discounts I got at the register but something to keep in mind before you go. Also, I think the pricing is also a function of the store being a bit of one-stop shop with its size. Finally, there is stuff other than vinyl (in fact, A LOT of CDs, as well as tapes, 8-track, etc.) but I wasn't looking for any of that so I didn't shop it. However, if you're into multiple media formats it should be all the more appealing. Happy record shopping!

Welcome, to the sanctuary of nostalgia. Whether you where born in the 1920's or in the 2000's, entering here transports you to those years when people were good, prices were low, movies were original, and music was good. From John Denver to Aretha Franklin and from spaghetti westerns to science fiction, you will find all types of music and movie genres...even posters, T - shirts and collectible items. The staff will help you happily and quickly to find what you are looking for, they really know their stuff. Coming here is like going to therapy...you'll find a peaceful environment, relaxing music (even AC/DC relaxes you here!)...and the hope that no matter what, good music will live forever.

This place is bonkers! The sheer volume is very overwhelming but I was able to find several albums I've been looking for for awhile now. All the records are sleeved which is a small but appreciated touch. There is even an audiophile room for those serious collectors. Lots of great box sets both old and new. The buyers here are really dialed in. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time here because there's a lot of digging to be done but everything is expertly organized so it's also super easy to find something specific.

Since then, Docs has been or first choice for vinyl purchases of all levels. We are not collectors, really. I'm fine with a $7 Led Zeppelin disc with some magic marker on it as long as the vinyl plays well. We try to keep it $15 or under per record, though we've broken this rule a few times. At that level, there are always fun finds here at Docs. The selection is large in all genres. We found all three Stealer's Wheel records in a single trip. My rare 70s rock like Be-Bop Deluxe, Crack The sky, and Sweet comes through regularly at reasonable prices. And don't forget to check the new arrivals bin. Highly recommended!

There is so much to browse, go through, and check out as you walk around. Organization of their inventory and labeling is top notch for a record vinyl shopper myself. I appreciate the clear and beautifully written (easy to read too!) labels for every single artist in their respective genre sections. There is no guessing whether they have the artist you want or not. You can even see, across the aisle from you, what artists are on the opposite aisle from you at just a glance. Doc's labels their record tabs front AND back! Oh what a dream for me who usually has a list of records I am looking for. Each vintage vendor and nook is worth taking your time in exploring. We saw such a wide variety and range of vintage clothing, memorabilia, shoes, artwork, purses, glassware, and knick knacks. I also saw several sale items that were worth a look through if you don't get enticed to just take it home. I found some cool vintage purses and 90's band shirts I had to have. Even though I was here for the records and bought well over a half a dozen of a mix of single and albums on vinyl I was super pleased with the variety of vintage and new/artisan stuff they had for sale here. The decor and even the Doc's merch are pretty unique and worth taking pictures of for remembering you came to such a unique and fun place. I love the mural and logo outside before you walk in this modern giant warehouse. Parking was super easy and overflow free parking across the street is just steps away from the front door. Don't hassle with trying to find parking in front.

Nearing the end of a brief visit to Dallas recently--from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday…read moreafternoon--I decided to check out Josey Records in Dallas. To me, as someone who fits into the record collector/record dealer/cratedigger and DJ categories, visiting a record store I've never been to before is always an exciting or intriguing adventure. Josey has a reputation for being a good spot to buy records, so I am glad I finally went here to see what's up. Just looking around the store initially, I could see there are several areas in which the store could be improved or made more interesting. My first observation re: genre sections is that the signage for aisles could be more prominent. All of it is placed rather low, but at great record stores, you're never left guessing where everything is. You just find the music you're looking for more easily. With the massive volume of music releases in the store, I would like to see better curation of what's in stock. For example there were lots of Brian Eno releases, but not the ones I'd be interested in. For Parliament Funkadelic, there were just 2 Parliament 45s, but no Funkadelic and no George Clinton 45s. I thought that was weird. I was also looking for a famous jazz guitarist who's listed on the website, but the guy working the counter didn't even know who he was. Overall, I think the selection is decent if you are willing to spend time just looking through various sections, but there's no help on the floor--so you're just basically on your own. It kind of reminded me of shopping for records in a warehouse, but the warehouse I usually go to has much better curation. I should also state I tend to like smaller stores which get the mix of old and new releases more right or perhaps even focus on a certain niche. On a different note, in addition to music, there are lots of other cool things at Josey: a stage for performances, books, posters, tshirts and other ephemera. So, it is easy for music nerds to get lost here. Also, the parking situation is really good here, and I thought the service was good--the guys here are friendly, and one of them did go back into the aisles to look for something. Overall, I would rate this store a 4/5.

They have more variety than Entertainmart, and it's easier to find rarer films for cheaper than their online listings, but I do have to admit their prices are higher than I'd like (especially their "New" items, which are usually priced $3-5 higher so they can make a profit off it) and their sales aren't the best either (their best they'll do is Buy 2 Get 1 Free). That being said, we're regulars there and visit at least once every 1-2 weeks. As for the staff, they've never been rude or unhelpful to me. (I don't know if they treat me different because I'm a regular, but even after not visiting for several weeks they're still nice to me.) I've had issues like not being able to find an item or wanting to return something, and they're always speedy and helpful. Even when I do somewhat complicated things like special order an item from another store in their chain, they don't act rude or unhelpful to me. As for their selection, I'm usually able to find something I want there. They carry all sorts of different items- games and accessories for various platforms, movies on DVD and Blu-Ray, music on CD and vinyl, comic books, collectibles, board/card games and accessories, anime/manga, and even older toys. If they don't have something you want, they'll special order it for you from another store of theirs and, if it's not available at any store in the chain, they'll order it for you off Amazon. Special orders can either be shipped to your local store for pickup or just can be shipped to your house. So in total, I give Movie Trading Company a 4 out of 5. They're not perfect, I do have some pet peeves with them that i've listed in this review, but overall I still really like the store and love to shop there.
