The owners are so kind, and the made from scratch gourmet breakfasts + coffee (actually roasted in the dining room) were an amazing way to start the day. My partner and I spent three wonderful nights at Hisega Lodge while exploring the Rapid City area…read more We were immediately impressed with the location, as the historic lodge is nestled next to a creek in the hills. From the moment we arrived, we were shown nothing but kindness and hospitality from the operators Tara and Mike. The welcoming environment of this place extends into every nook and cranny. Guests can access free microwave popcorn, sodas, ice, and coffee, and can access the main lodge at anytime and sit on the couches or read in the library area. There is wifi accessible and our room came with a tv that included access to a variety of apps, including Netflix. We were fortunate enough to bunk in a family suite and it is perfectly suited for a group of people that are looking for a home-away-from-home feel. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and open-concept kitchen and living area, it really felt like we had our own apartment here. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with travel-sized toiletries and condiments, and there are plenty of dishes and cookware to utilize. There would be no need to worry about cooking in the morning, however, because breakfast is prepared and delicious! Every morning was plenty to fill me up for hours, and the variety and quality of food was really exceptional. It is served at a communal table, so everyone at the lodge eats together. This turned out to be the most pleasant surprise, as we began establishing friendships and connections with other people. Between the friendly staff, the beautiful location, and the impressive breakfast, Hisega Lodge went far and above my expectations. I intend to recommend this place to anyone who is looking to stay in the Rapid City area.

Check-in was the only good thing about this hotel…read more Upon getting to our room, after a long day of travel, everyone needed to use the restroom, except there was no toilet paper or tissues in the bathroom. We booked a room with a fold out couch bed, as there were 5 of us staying, and nowhere in the room was there any bedding for us to make up the couch bed. I called down to the front desk to request the toilet paper, tissues, and bedding, and it took 15 minutes for a very harassed looking hotel maid to bring it to us, but no pillows for the extra bed, while one of our party waited in the bathroom for toilet paper. When it was finally my turn to use the restroom, I noticed dirty footprints on the floor, and hair that wasn't anyone's in our party all over the floor. Additionally, there were green toothpaste splatters all over the mirror, and white globs of toothpaste all over the tissue holder. But the bathroom wasn't the worst part of our stay. The carpets were stained, and hadn't been vacuumed before our stay. My son found a used q-tip on the floor by the bed, as well as fast food containers half shoved under the dresser. The room smelled awful, and the thermostat was set for 62, which, for a cold rainy day was too cold for us, but when we turned the heat on to warm it up a bit, a new, and even worse smell entered the room. The duvet on my kids' bed was either stained, or had never been washed, with a large, dark brown spot at the top. We turned the duvet so the dark spot was at the bottom, because we didn't want to wait an indeterminate amount of time after the kids' bedtime for housekeeping to bring up a new duvet. When we pulled the curtains closed, there was a large, dark stained spot of what looked to be exploded chocolate ice cream all over the curtain. When we moved the coffee table out of the way to make the sofa bed, it was sticky, with visible spots that hadn't been cleaned off. The seal for the refrigerator, which we needed for my son's medication, was falling off, and my other son was able to fix it, so at least we could keep my son's medication cold. Thankfully, none of us needed to shower, because there was someone else's hair still covering the drain, and black footprints inside the bottom of the shower. Additionally, housekeeping left only one bar of soap, so I'm glad we didn't need a shower, as we would have had to use the same bar of soap on our bodies and our hands. And, when I washed my face, the wash cloth had an old bloodstain on it. Additionally, the hotel is in the process of being remodeled, but there was a huge drywall patch on the wall that hadn't been painted, the carpeting in our room hadn't been finished appropriately and had raw edges up against all the walls, and the chairs and tables in the room were stained and terrible looking. We had to buy a case of water at Target after our dinner, because there were no cups in the room, and we didn't trust that the plumbing had received any better care than the rest of the hotel, and we felt uncomfortable drinking it. This morning, when we went down for breakfast, there was a paltry selection, and only a small dribble of milk in the lone milk jug in the refrigerator. We ended up deciding to go to the restaurant just in front of the hotel for breakfast before our son's swim meet this morning, rather than wait to see if staff would restock the breakfast area. On our way out, a staff member, and what looked to be her daughter, were carrying in another milk jug, a couple bottles of International Delight coffee creamer, and a box of granola bars that very obviously came from the Sam's Club not too far away. The pool area looked nice, but the hot tub had signs laying on the side of it that said "do not enter". We decided not to swim, as we had been up since 4am and it was 8pm, so I can't tell you if the water was decent. It didn't smell heavily chlorinated, at least. We are heading home today, after my son's swim meet is finished, and every single piece of clothing and bedding we brought into the room is going STRAIGHT into the laundry, because it all smells absolutely awful, thanks to this terrible hotel that had the audacity to charge almost $200 for a one night stay!

However, walking the grounds and reading the details/specs on display was interesting. Provided pics of the first nuclear missile (circa. 1960) - the Titan I which required 15 minutes to lift it then load its required fuel BEFORE liftoff could occur......Boy, not a very good defense during the cold war! Also, was impressed with General then President Eisenhower's private WW II plane was customized for his military surveillance throughout. Would have liked a walking audio tour and the aircraft maintained and painted to original era but considering the FREE price of admission (FREE-but subsidized by our tax dollars!), one cannot complain.

Staff all around was very nice, and you can feel their passion for aviation.
