Avalon Gallery…read moreis a participant in Downtown Delray Beach First Friday Art Walk, which takes place October through May on the first Friday of the month from 6 to 9 PM. The galleries offer specials on work and artists have meet and greets. While eating lunch across the street I noticed the beautiful display windows of the Avalon Gallery so after I finished I had to come over and check them out. Avalon is owned by John M. Terry and Mavis L.R. Benson and they represent over 120 artists in the U.S. and Canada. The gallery is filled with beautiful artist blown glass in all price points. Glass is one of my favorite mediums so I enjoyed exploring all of the beautiful pieces. In addition to glass they also have jewelry, ceramics, lamps, furniture, and wall art. If you can't come to the gallery in person you can look at what they have available on their website but they don't sell on online. You have to contact them directly if you see something you want to purchase. They will also consult with you to find exactly what you want. You can really get the personal touch here. If you can visit I highly recommend it. You really need to see in person how these beautiful works of glass art capture the light.

It was a great night at the Bailey arts center. We had…read moregotten tickets for the monthly jazz show they put on here. We had other things come up the past couple months that it was on so was happy to finally have it line up with things. When I arrived they were still setting up. I think actually planned to start late so it was suggested by the people there to enjoy the adjoining arts galleries attached to the center. I didn't expect so much great art to be available. There was modern art, realistic painted portraits, mixed media and much more. In addition, there were resident artists that were actually on site working on pieces. It was very enjoyable. The show started and was great. it was a 4 piece band, playing jazz of a certain motif. All songs were based on the guitarist of the 60's, West Montgomery. The theme made it even more enjoyable. All 4 guys were really good, and all had killer solos. The facility does put up a wine concession too, for those who would like a glass with their jazz. They are off next month, but plan to be back at the next show. It makes for a nice Thursday night show.

I had stopped in to the new Pompano Cultural Center…read moreto have a look around and the cultural director Pamela told me about this place across the street. Since my daughter is an artist I was intrigued and we headed over to check it out. BaCA as this place is also known has a first floor gallery and on the second floor there are different rooms that the artists rent as studio space and you can go and watch them work. No one was in in residence on our visit but my daughter loved seeing their spaces and the works in progress. Although her work is more digital than fine arts at present I know she would love to have her own space in this beautiful building. There is even a cute coffee house located next door. On the first of every month they hold Old Town Untapped from 6-9. It's a craft brew and arts festival. Outside of BaCA they have craft brew samples from Odd Breed Ales located across the street, art, and food trucks. Other events that are scheduled can be found listed in a pamphlet that you can get from the Cultural Arts Center across the street. I love that Pompano is moving in the direction of having more arts. The director of arts told me that there are actually four venues for the arts in Pompano now as well as a newly created cultural arts council. I look forward to seeing what they present and attending great art events in Pompano in the future.

What a lovely surprise in our backyard on a hot day to go see a collection of very unique book…read moremaking and binding. Included was a visit to an old-fashioned print shop with letter press. This is a wonderful thing to do for all ages with not only the ability to handle unique books, but also See things that are modern and not technologically produced. Many of the objects were all made by hand.. located on the grounds of Florida, Atlantic University and minutes from the major highway I would highly recommend spending a few hours to browse the collection of unique works of art

The Mid-Century Museum and Cultural Center is one of the three buildings owned by the Deerfield…read morebeach Historical Society. They also own a Kester Cottage, now the Museum of Black History and the Butler House which are across the street. This former mid-century modern home belonged to Robert and Martha Butler. Robert was the nephew of James D. and Alice Butler who built the 1923 home that was bequeathed to the historical society in 1977. The mid-century home has been transformed into a center for art, culture. and community gatherings. Some of the events held here include live music, art classes, films, lectures, and community meetings. There is also art gallery space. Although there wasn't anything in the gallery I loved checking out the home which is a mid-century time capsule. Mid-century design is a popular style in architecture, furniture, and graphic design from the mid-1940s to the late 1960s, It emphasizes simple, functional pieces created from natural and man-made materials like wood, plastic, and metal. If you know it you can easily spot signs of it all over the house like the uniquely colored bathrooms and the silver metal starburst on the wall. You can take tour of this house and the Butler house every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. On January 14 the Mid-Century Museum and Cultural Center is hosting the opening of Phoenix Photography "Florida Views", a photographic collection featuring the beauty of Florida. It will be running until February 21st. Other events include Driveway Fridays, a monthly concert, the Saturday Lecture Series, International Film Night, and art classes for children and adults. The Deerfield Beach Historical Society offers so much and I always enjoy catching up with them when I can.

With Art Basel starting in Miami, it was surrising to see an opening for an Art Studio in Delray…read more So I was a bit skeptical when I went these, thinking that anything worthwhile is probably 30 miles to the south. But i couldn't have been more wrong. Not that i know much about art, but certain things just grab my attention, and there were several of those in this small gallery. But by far, my most favorite was this painting named "Porcelain Dreams". I attached a photo of it. It is the only piece that I actually contemplated buying. Unfortunately in my house I am going with more classic art look, but when i am done with the main rooms, maybe I can find a place for this one as well

We love these artsy stores that display multiple artists masterpieces. Most of the inventory were…read moreuniquely painted ceramic dogs, candy, and even Chanel purses. The two employees were friendly but not pushy. Appreciated that they explained a few of the items. Most marketplaces have at least one of these type of creative stores. The prices vary from a hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars based of the construction, rarity or celebrated artist. The gumball machine was my favorite piece of art.

The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum is located in the former home of the late Solomon D. Spady, a…read moreprominent African American educator and community leader in Delray Beach from 1922 to 1957. The museum is operated by Epoch is a non profit organization. The name is an acronym for expanding and preserving our cultural heritage. Epoch purchased the house in 1997 and renovated it. They museum opened in July 2001 and it is the only African American cultural center in Palm Beach County. Epoch offer several events at the house throughout the year. The Ride and Remember Bus Tour takes place once a month and leaves from the Spady House and visits all 5 of the historical districts in Delray Beach. They also have a Youth Cultural Empowerment Camp, a Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, and a Kwanzaa and Juneteenth celebration. Dates and times can be found on the events calendar on their website. The Spady House is open to visitors Tuesday through Thursday from 11-4 PM.

This museum tells the story of not just the social and economic development and evolution of Palm Beach County but of Florida's East Coast and regional area. We were greeted and welcomed by Nick and Dianne. Dianne provided us with an in depth, detailed and informative guided tour of the gallery. Dianne explained and shared her vast knowledge and her passion for history which was evident in her storytelling and interpretation of historical information presented. Admission is free.

Housed in a restored 1916 courthouse the Historical Society of Palm Beach houses a permanent…read morecollection of history of Palm Beach. Visiting the museum is free and open from Monday through Saturday 10 to 4. My visit included 'Sunshine Cinema - Florida in film' which is on display until May 30, 2026. There was a $12 charge for this special exhibit. The docent walked us through the exhibit and shared a tremendous amount of background and information, she clearly has a passion for the museum. The museum hosts many History Talks throughout the year as well as permanent and special collections. There is plenty of metered on street parking nearby. The Historical Society of Palm Beach County is a hidden gem.
