I hear this is quite the happening place-but not on the weekend that I visited. Next weekend, there will be a huge festival followed by even more events and activities. But when I stopped by, I enjoyed a serene lake and a pretty quiet walking path without much going on. It's a beautiful area with camping spots and a disc golf course surrounding the park. There was a good amount of parking available, although I'd imagine it might fill up when they have some of their larger events. I saw a pelican in the lake with fishing line around its neck, so I tracked down the camp host, who said they'd take care of it. I sure hope that pelican is ok. Aside from that, I didn't see a whole lot of wildlife with the exception of birds-lots of birds. If I was a bird, I'd stay here too, those trees are great! I look forward to coming back to Fort Buenaventura when they hold a community event, or maybe even during the summer to camp for a night or two. It's a beautiful place! read more

My partner and I attempted to scope out this camp site to potentially host a large (150 people) family gathering in a few weeks. Upon arrival we were told to "get the f**k out" if we weren't paying customers! After trying to ask for info, and perhaps a location of a restroom (since there aren't any others near there) we were crudely brushed off yet again. Frustrated, I found and quickly used a restroom near the playground area. As we were leaving, the same toothless fella who had so profanely asked us to leave came speeding up in a golf cart blocking us into the park. He yelled and demanded that we pay him a $100 fine right then and there! For using the bathroom at a PUBLIC PARK. There was no arguing with him. I gave him the only cash I had, which was $20, just so we could get the heck out of there! HE MADE ME BRIBE HIM TO LEAVE. I'm absolutely disgusted by my encounter at this park. I will never EVER return or recommend to anyone. read more

The last thing you'd expect next to an Ogden train yard is a beautiful sanctuary, but here it is! This place is a hidden gem! Free entry for all, some activities have a fee. This is the location of an actual fort from the 1800s, the footprint of which is still there. There are walking trails, campgrounds, firepits, picnic tables, a fantastic playground, teepees, rv pads, fishing, clean bathrooms and the crown jewel: a beautiful pond that feeds a creek. There is a dock that houses canoes available for rent (for cheap!) We've rented canoes twice and had a lovely time spotting otters, fish, frogs and turtles. I stayed overnight at Fort Buenaventura in Ogden, UT on 8/6/2009 and 8/7/2009. It was my 1st time there. I was staying in my RV: The Black Pearl. For a place that used to be an old train yard and hobo camp - it is a beautiful location. Back in 2009 the price was $15.00 each night but I'm sure it went up since then. read more

I second Atali's review. This place is run by the worst, most unprofessional staff and manager I've ever encountered in any facility. I witnessed the park staff arguing with the festival volunteers and staff and it was very unprofessional. Avoid at all costs. The Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music festival really needs to move the event back to North Fork, or to the fall time, the trees are horrible here for anyone with allergies. read more

We held our first annual Utah Pirate Invasion at Fort Buenaventura in Ogden, UT on August 3-5, 2018. I would like to offer some feedback as we are truly unhappy with the venue and the way we were treated and will not be using the Fort again for the Invasion or any other event we do in the future. The Fort itself is a beautiful park and truly a great place for events such as the Invasion in itself. However the management and organization of the venue is the worst I have ever dealt with in trying to put on an event. In my experience when organizing and event, the venue and city are very accommodating and do what they can to assist the event hosts in getting everything needed for the event organized as they understand the value of a well organized event in their city/county. Dealing with the management, city and county for the Fort was quite opposite, we ended the event feeling that we were not welcome there at the Fort at all. Below is a list of issues that we had with each entity: Fort Buenaventura 1. Having to go through the county/city to try and get the correct permits is time consuming as it seems difficult at times to get a timely response from anyone. I would suggest finding a way to streamline the process and provide a checklist of sorts that gives event organizers a step by step process of what is needed to have an event at the Fort. 2. Changes made after the application is approved and contract signed. About one month before the event we had someone walk the Fort to map our layout, she was informed by the camp hosts that the disc golf course that was put in could not be shut down for our event, this was an issue since it was not there or even mentioned when we signed out contract, telling us we had to let the public in to use the course would have had a significant impact on our event as we wouldn't be able to control access to the event, it eliminated the areas we were planning on using for our vendor camping that were pointed out as areas we had control of by Kevin in our walk through the previous summer, it would have added to our liability as the golfers could damage our vendor camps or cause physical injury to our patrons or volunteers not to mention the added security risk. While the Fort conceded that since the course was not in our contract that we could close it down for the event, Kevin made it seem like he was doing us a favor and this was a bother for him. I would suggest if the Fort is going to make changes such as these that they inform the event organizers as soon as it is known so that as organizers we can either plan for it or change venues. 3. Communication: The communication between the Fort, the camp hosts, the city and the county is atrocious. One example of this was that the hosts told us we couldn't drive on the grass to unload for vendor setups, they felt this shouldn't be an issue since it really isn't that far to walk to their assigned spots (it is a far walk when you are unloading trucks and trailers full of goods and tents). We called country recs to complain about this rule and were then told by Ashley that yes we could drive on the grass to unload and she then called the hosts who then called us exasperated that they had to let us drive on the grass. 4. Camp hosts: This is our primary pain point, the two women who were there as the camp hosts were the least hospitable people I have ever dealt with. We agreed to pay a significant amount of money to rent the entire property for the event, we expected some degree of respect in our dealings there and got absolutely none. From the moment we arrived these hosts were a nightmare to deal with. They managed to anger every single one of our vendors, they treated us as if we were a bunch of idiots who had no idea what we were doing, their interference made our setup and prep for the event an absolute miserable experience as well as added hours to our setup time in just having to deal with them and their poor attitudes, time which was already short due to your check in times, by the end of day one they had managed to irritate every single person there setting up our event including contractors like honey bucket. Day two was even worse, I asked them not to drive their ATV's on the main road next to the Fort after the bridge, this was for a few reasons: 1, they drive those things like maniacs, during setup a few of our people had to jump out of the way as Darlene wasn't slowing down and seemed like she would just plow right through them, since our event had features on both sides of the road I really didn't want them plowing through our guests and potentially running over a meandering child. 2, they kick up a lot of dust, since it is already hot and buggy why add a bunch of dust to the mix? 3, it's a period event, bright orange motorized ATV's simply break that illusion.
