A comfortable little rv park right off the highway exchange. Check in was easy, there is a camp store, bathhouse and laundry in the middle of the grounds. Stayed an overnight on our way through the area. There is some highway noise when you're outside but inside our fifth wheel it was quiet. Quiet, peaceful, shaded wide open pull through site with 50 amp FHU right across from the pool. Packed gravel site is pretty level, with grass all around. There was a huge ahade tree overhead which helped with the overhead sun the afternoon of our arrival. A picnic table on a concrete pad. All connections are within a few feet of each other, and the water pressure was good. The location of this rv park is very conveniently located from 77/81. If you're looking for fast food for dinner, you are in luck. Otherwise, be prepared to eat in your rv. Flying J very close making it easy to fill-up after/before a long day of driving. If you are in need of wifi, this is not your park. The wifi was only strong enough to send a text or check an email. Many sites are grass/mud/dirt (good luck leveling) and some have small concrete pads that are tricky to get in/out of with a larger rig (ours is 42 ft.). If you are staying during a night that is below freezing, be prepared to unhook the water. Otherwise, a note attached to the map says you will be held responsible for any damages (perhaps a good idea to take a picture of you unhooking water, just in case). Check in was quick, but no time for pleasantries. I did not use the restroom/shower, however, my husband said they were very clean and nice. This is our second and probably last visit to Fort Chiswell. Everyone is looking for something different. However, as for us, we will do better planning in the future to avoid a third visit. In our opinion, this park is overpriced for the venue/service provided. Perhaps you will feel differently. read more

I agree with some of the others here. This is perfect for an emergency one night stop, but it isn't a place to camp for an extended stay. Pull through sites were a welcome sight after a long drive. Noise from the interstate could be heard in our motorhome, so be sure to bring earplugs or a noise machine if you are a light sleeper. read more

This is a great one night stop. I would not vacation here but for a night or two while traveling it is great. The sites are level and some even have concrete pads. If you come late you pick your own site and leave money in the door. All have full hook ups. Good stop. Right off highway but not too close. read more

All RV'er know that an RV park that says it has Wi-Fi will disappoint... but not this one! For once we do not have to sit outside Walmart to get a signal, hooray! Large green spaces, level ( for once!), shaded, with a concrete slab and picnic table. Added to that, truly huge showers with easily adjusted instant hot water. This place does not look fancy and it is right off the freeway but a hill buffers the noise nicely. All in all, a great price and everything we could want! read more

Easy in and out from the interstate. Very convenient. Just an overnight for us. Long gravel pull thrus, not quite level. Some sites had cement pads. Utilities were convenient, wifi was weak, no off leash dog park. They have a large area with pull thrus for transients and it filled up the night we were there. There was just one dumpster for the whole park and it was already full when arrived. By morning, everyone was putting trash next to and around the dumpster. Unsightly and unsanitary. read more

Ft. Chiswell does the basics really well: convenient, quiet, clean, level, and open year-round. This park has quickly become a favorite half-way point on a long trip we make multiple times each year. As others have said, it is an ideal location for a one or two-night stay and is located close to I-81. It's not a vacation destination, with playgrounds, kids' activities, and parties. This is why Ft. Chiswell is so blissfully quiet. All the sites we've stayed in have been level pull-throughs, which makes for a quick set-up in the evening and easy departure in the morning. The shower house is clean and large. Wifi and cable are included. Propane is available for purchase. The staff have been lovely each time we've been through. Looking forward to many, many more visits! read more

Really convenient RV stop right off I81 lots of great pull through sites. Great staff They have a pool an quaint views of pasture land and livestock surrounding the park. Economic overnight stay full hookups WiFi in some areas. Spotless spacious restrooms laundry and small meet/game room. I will be back. read more

Clean and well cared for RV park. Grass and some trees. Well located near highways but not too close as far as road noise is concerned. Small town nearby with groceries, gas etc. very reasonably priced and friendly staff. Has laundry room, swimming pool, overall good place to stop while traveling thru. read more

This is a basic campground with a good location for travelers along I-81 and/or I-77. Sites are pretty decent - not too close and mostly pull thru with 50A. Campground is designed for overnighters and it does a good job at that. Far enough away from the highway so you get to noise yet convenient for easy on/off to I-81/I-77. The local Flying J has no RV facility but one more exit south has a Flying J with full RV spots. Overall, a good overnight stop for RVers on the go. read more

Our first stay was good, we had a treed lot and it was level and wonderful. We passed back through 2 weeks later and they threw us out in the middle of a field in full sun, it sucked immensely. The site was angled steeply, so much that I had problems releasing my weight distribution bars and ball on my trailer due to the angle of the truck being on the road. I had to back it up but then the power cord wouldn't reach, it was a fiasco. This is a badly designed park. I finally got it all sorted and the trailer leveled but then discovered the site was littered everywhere with dog crap. I decided to go to the pool for a quick swim to try and cool off. The water was about 105 degrees with a layer of dead insects on top and cigarette butts at the bottom. Get me out of here. read more

This place is very convenient to the expressway but with the beautiful rolling hills that surround the camp you can not hear any road noise. It is a popular place for folks heading north or south and during the three nights we stayed there it was almost full with different campers each night. We were in a gravel pull through site, it was very level, and a little wider than normal. Each site has a picnic table. There is a small pool, didn't use it so can't say much about it. The laundry room and bathrooms were clean. There is a small store in the office with basic needs and honey and preserves. WiFi was pretty good most of the time. We stayed the first week of June and used our Good Sam discount. read more

This is a RV Park that also offers storage. We stayed overnight while in transit and it was perfect for that purpose. The location close to I-81 and I-77 make it an easy stop. It is basically a field with parking spots overlooking a pasture with some frisky cows. However, the staff were nice and the facilities were nice. read more

What a nice, clean campground with the most pleasant staff. The sites are spacious by rte 81 standards, and many have trees for shade. Lots of channels on the cable and wifi along with a heated pool. The store is small but had essentials like beer and wine! They even kept the pool open for late arrivals who need a dip. The office has a book swap library. Prices are very reasonable.
