The place was amazing, surrounded by big beautiful trees. It was adjacent to a river, and perfect for kayaking. Beautiful campsites, and hiking trails. Easily reservable online, we were able to line it up same day and pop right into our pull thru spot as soon as we arrived. The is one street light in the campground and I wish it wasn't right next to site 26, but not enough to spoil a perfect evening. As our campfire dwindles in the late evening, we know the memories and appreciation we have will never fade. Thanks to Hamilton county for a truly wonderful park!

As I cruised along Route 20, enjoying the 2 lane highway's total lack of traffic and enjoying the…read moregently rolling verdant ag countryside - I started seeing something pretty and amazing - great big quilt squares painted on barns! This gorgeous public art project seemed to be ubiquitous - nearly every barn in Hamilton County that I passed on Route 20 had something pretty painted on it. Apparently the idea for Barn Quilts started in Adams County, Ohio in 2001 - it was a way to foster interest in an economically depressed part of Ohio - and the idea has now spread to other areas - including Iowa, Ohio,Tennessee, North Carolina and West Virginia and "Clothesline Quilts" in Appalachia. According to the Hamilton County Barn Quilts Website: "The Barn Quilts of Hamilton County Project began in 2005 after SEED Director Catherine Bergman and quilt shop owner Sara Harless spent several hours together attending a trade show. Seeing the impact the project has had on other areas of Iowa and the county, the two women knew that Hamilton County could benefit from the idea. From there, the phone calls began to find property owners willing to paint quilts on their barns, and the rest is history (in-the-making). In Hamilton County the project is being coordinated by Hamilton County SEED, Hamilton County ISU Extension, and Prairie Rose Quilts & Gifts." Great project and lots of fun to drive around and see the different quilt squares!

We were greeted warmly and were able to park the camper and get hooked up to electricity with some help from the owner, Bill. After getting settled we headed inside for wine tasting. Each wine flight comes with 5 wines of your choosing and there are plenty to choose from. We ended up with a bottle of the Crimson Pearl to enjoy while we sat and chatted with Bill, his wife Tammi and their daughter Amanda. The tasting room is large with plenty of seating, a comfy couch and a cute backdrop for fun selfies. They also have a small patio outside but it was too hot to enjoy while we were there. There are snacks available to purchase as well as lots of wine merch. I highly recommend checking this winery out!
