I am very interested in my father's upbringing, and wanted to see his neighborhood, as well as important personal landmarks. Several people- including other local tour guides, told me this neighborhood was too dangerous and I should do something else with my time. Joe met me at my hotel, and we took the subway together to the old neighborhood. Not only did Joe make me feel safe, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared. He brought pictures of special landmarks, like my father's apartment building (which no longer exists) and my father's favorite candy shop, which has been a bodega for decades. He was also able to tell me a great deal about the history of the neighborhood. I strongly recommend Joe to anyone looking for a tour guide.

He met us at our hotel promptly the next afternoon, took us on the subway and chatted with us the whole time. Joe is very personable. We arrived in Harlem in 15 -20 mins later and began our tour the minute we exited the station. We were stopped a few times, because Joe is well-known in Harlem, being a native. Folks love him, and we understand why. He is a genuinely nice guy who loves his city and is proud of his and its culture. Joe's knowledge of the city and it's history made for an informative experience. If we had more time in NYC, we certainly would have booked him again for another tour in a different part of the city. This street feels like your in Netherlands. They also had a flee market when I was there, selling stuff like jewelry, old electronics, DVDs, CDs, and vinyls. There are people that actually live in the houses, I saw plenty of people go in and out of the houses. What I like is that this street isn't too busy, or swarming with tourists. It truly feels like you're back in old New York.

Its official name is the Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse and there are some information plaques nearby where you can read abouts its history. Its also a literary landmark made famous by the children's book "The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge". Also some nice parkland around it to picnic and take in the views.

Can we be real, the George Washington Bridge (GWB) is a monumental feat of engineering and a stunning landmark, especially at night when the lights illuminate its impressive structure. But for those of us who regularly commute its span, it can be a bit of a love-hate relationship. With awe inspiring views, architectural marvel. The GW bridge is a vital connector serving as the gateway connecting New Jersey and New York to the New England area. Here is the downside of the bridge in my opinion only the toll fare has increased again, despite still having pot holes, insane traffic, and construction that has been happening for what feels like 10 years or more. Be prepared for endless traffic in both directions. It is a chaotic mess! Which is an understatement for the traffic during peak hours. Be prepared for bumper-to-bumper delays and endless honking. It can easily add significant delays to your journey. Tip: Avoid this bridge if possible the Tappan Zee aka Mario Cuomo bridge is less traffic, and less in toll.

Prior to that we'd been on other photo trips with noted photographers like Ken Rockwell, but NYC Photo Safari offered much more detailed "hands-on" instruction and feedback about our shots. It was a very fulfilling experience and after three hours we had more great shots than we ever got during three days of shooting elsewhere. Since then we've gone on almost all of the safaris; e.g., Iconic NY Parts 1&2, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and Composition Boot Camp. The pictures we captured were good enough that we've printed and sold many of them. Another interesting aspect of these tours is that they attract interesting people from all over the world. A few months ago we completed a recent nighttime 3-1/2 Bridges Tour that involved taking just about every mode of transit NYC has to offer. Again it was a superb time and yielded a bevy of presentation-quality, marketable images.

Each day, the photo sessions started at 12:30 pm and ended approximately 10:30 pm each evening touring every part of Manhattan in every direction. It sounds like alot but each day just flew by. The instructors were incredibly professional and patient. They imparted their vast photographic knowledge, taking their time to explain the composition and reason/purpose of each shot. It was a lot of information and I definitely grow as a photographer. I want give big thank you Zim, who took her time to answer all of my question not matter how insignificant. She help me "think outside the box" to examine some of my preconceived ideas and in a new light (no pun intended...not). Thank you, Thank you Zim for opening eyes and ears and to new ideas and images. Your generosity and support was very much appreciated. Anyone who is thinking of taking a 3 hours or 3 day session with NYC Photo Safari, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy !!!

There's also a park outside and Sylvan Terrace, which is part of the whole experience. They have tons of activities there too, tours, art shows, music, they show movies sometimes outside. If you want to just go there to walk your dog you can that as well, just in some place where George Washington used to walk around and now you're dog is sniffing around it. It's always well kept, everything always feels calm and peaceful in there, a little oasis in the city.

I had seen a show recently in which paranormal investigators heard the footsteps of someone who said that he was Aaron Burr. We did not see or hear any ghosts, alas. But the very nice guide did say that she and other people who worked in the mansion had all experienced the presence of ...something. The rooms are lovely, beautifully furnished with period pieces. The octagon room is stunning, and the details of the restorations by Traci Telasco are interesting. Oddly, there weren't any wardrobes/armoires, or closets, that I could see. Aaron Burr and William both had large beds, while Eliza Jumel had a lit de repos--quite narrow, with a swan tester. The kitchen was disappointing. Just a giant fireplace with an oven, a huge kettle and other old pots, and a candle mold on the mantel. There was also an old table and benches, presumably for the servants to have their meals. The butler's pantry was not on the tour, because it is now a restroom. I don't know exactly what we expected, but a kitchen from Pompeii was far more impressive. It seems difficult to understand how the elaborate meals of the era could be produced with just a fireplace and an oven, although apparently the long-handled pans were held over the fire. It was a fun trip to the Heights on the M5 bus. I would go back in the Spring to see the Glade. And Sylvan Terrace was lovely!
