We stayed at The Courtland Hotel & Spa in Fort Scott, KS on February 14th, 2026, and from the moment we walked in, Frank made us feel like guests -- not just customers. He greeted us personally and gave us what he called the "nickel tour," walking us through the property and sharing its story. That personal touch set the tone for the entire visit. We stayed in Room 15 (King bed), and the extra space made the stay especially comfortable for the two of us. Clean, cozy, and perfect for a one-night getaway. We didn't get to experience the spa or additional amenities this time, but if the hospitality is any indication, we'd happily return. If you're in Fort Scott and want something with character and genuine service, this is a great choice.

I called the number on the listing and spoke with the owner Gita, a very pleasant woman, who unfortunately is not aware of Yelp. I told he that I will make sure that people are aware that she is still open for business and hopefully get her rating back on track. Sherri and Jeff are incredibly gracious and intuitive hosts: there when you need them, but otherwise, they let you be. The porch alone of this rambling abode is larger than some San Francisco apartments, and every window of my room looked out upon lush greenery. I slept well in the big bed and thoroughly enjoyed the historic feel of the Himmel House. I would only call during normal hours. Even texted her husband after my call. No response. As a regular and frequent guest I was totally offended. New nightly rates are too high and past hunters are finding better and more reasonable alternatives. Very few waterfowl hunters stayed there this year. Lot was almost empty opening week and throughout the 90 day season. Was a great place to have an extended stay for hunting. But no longer. Vrbo and aidbnb are much better options for longer stays.
