Chicken broccoli in clear slime gelatin.
    Alley J.

Service was great. Quick, friendly and professional. This building looks like it's been closed for business... since 1987. There's no sign on the building and the inside it's extremely outdated. Clean but strange. The food was below random mall food court level. The fried rice had no flavor, the chicken and broccoli was swimming in a clear, gelatin slime and the crab Rangoon tasted very similar to Kraft macaroni and cheese. I will say the egg drop soup was decent and the egg rolls were definitely one of the best I've ever had. Maybe even the best which is sad considering the rest of the meal. We won't be returning unfortunately.

I got the twice cooked pork. It was very good and I would get it again. Nice amount of meat, food support flavor. Crispy vegetables. I also got the large egg roll, although it seemed prey average size to me. They did sets it with fresh outside deuce and hot mustard rather than to go packets. Service was good. There weren't many people there on a weeknight.

    Moo shu shrimp!

Definitely recommend the steamed dumplings! Given the area, it's a solid Chinese food choice. Because the room was so cold, it kind of ruined the atmosphere. But otherwise it was fine. We ordered the Moo Shu Shrimp, Honey Ginger Chicken and Steamed Meat Dumplings. Moo Shu Shrimp was good. The Honey Ginger Chicken had interesting red sauce. And the Steamed Meat Dumplings pretty yummy.

I'm not fond of chains and so I always look for independent restaurants. My favorites are holes in the walls. While fortune isn't a hole in the wall exactly since it is a decent sized free standing building, its 70s-80s decor certainly shows its age. But these are the kinds of places I love and if you are a foodie you probably love places like this too. So my wife and I went on a Sunday after reading some positive yelp reviews. The waitress was extremely nice and attentive. My wife ordered light. She had the Japanese salad w ginger dressing which she really liked. We are accustomed to eating this at sushi places. This salad was big. She also ordered the udon soup. She was a little disappointed that the noodles sat in won ton and not miso broth but we both understood that this was a Chinese restaurant after all. On to the Chinese dishes. I ordered both won ton and hot and sour soup. The won ton broth was excellent and was a chicken stock which I grew accustomed to since a child. Many Chinese places now use a beef stock for their won ton, which I'm not fond of. The hot and sour was great. Chockfull of quality ingredients. I was really surprised that it was quite spicy. Too many Chinese restaurants now pander to the masses and leave the "hot" out of the hot and sour. For entrees I ordered twice cooked pork and shrimp in lobster sauce. I was amazed how fresh all the ingredients were. And I haven't had twice cooked pork this good for a long, long time. I'd write more but I have to go finish the delicious left overs.

Scallops and Shrimp in Garlic Sauce

First time in Youngstown and I was really craving some Chinese food. The young lady working the front desk at the hotel I was staying at recommended Fortune Garden for dinner so I had to try. My waitress was very courteous and personable. She took the time to explain the chefs specials and recommend her favorites to me. On her recommendation, I ordered the Scallop and Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Steamed meat dumplings (my personal favorite at any Chinese restaurant). First came out the steamed dumplings. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the dumplings were served in the bamboo steamer which gave nice points for presentation. Opening the steamer and I saw six beautiful dumplings piping hot and amazing. It was just like Christmas morning!! It goes without saying, they didn't last long. They were incredible!!! So juicy and flavorful they didn't even need the dipping sauce. These are a must get if you are craving an appetizer. Next came the entree. The Scallops and Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. I must say, the chef must really take pride in his/her presentation skills because both plates were stunning. Now the taste: the scallops were cooked beautifully and the shrimp was tender and juicy. The vegetables were cooked, but still maintained a nice crunch. The only knock on the dish is it is advertised as "spicy" and this was not. In fact, it was a bit sweeter than I was expecting. Other than that, the technical elements of the dish were executed nicely and the dish was satisfying. Overall, I would give this a 4 out of 5. Great food at an affordable price. Defiantly worth a stop if you are craving Chinese!

I wish I could do zero stars. My son and a group of his friends, 15-16 yrs old, go get dinner…read moretogether once a month. Yesterday they went to this place. Their entire bill came to $221, $27 of which is the mandatory tip. They all hand their cash to one boy to pay the bill and he inadvertantly put all of the cash in the bill folder. They gave the waitress a total of $310 dollars. She took the money, left and came back with the receipt, but no change. The kids didn't know what to do when and were reluctant to confront the waitress so they came to the parking lot to get me. I spoke with the manager, explained what happened and asked how to fix the problem. The waitress automatically goes off in Chinese for six solid minutes, yelling at the manger. He then looked at me and said she claimed the kids gave her exact change. I can tell you she was lying because she got the exact total wrong then corrected herself. Then she quoted the next amount which ended in an odd number, saying that's what the kids gave her. All the kids gave big bills, no $1 were given. That's the second lie. The manager said he would review the camera footage and get back to me. He didn't. I called him the next day and 430pm and he said he was too busy to look at it. I got him to look at it while I was on the phone. He did. Twenty minutes on hold and he came back and told me that the cameras stopped working at 604, which happened to be right before the kids paid the bill (odd), and he didn't see the kids transaction or what the waitress did with it. Either the waitress went all oceans 11 on the $87 overage, or she split it with the manager I say. Bottom line. At best their wait staff takes advantage of people, at worst they're theives. Either way, they'll never get a another dime out of me or the parents of the 9 other kids families. Seems to me like it would not be worth $87 but I guess it is to them.
