You have the main room which is huge, has a large dancefloor and depending upon the night has ballroom dancing, live acts and bingo. Theres also two lounges (one with darts boards - they also have their own team) and pool tables, a snooker room and a kids room as well as a food secition serving cobs and chip and burgers. They also boast their own anglingling, cribbage, dominoes, pool, snooker and darts team. As well as having a boules lawn The staff are great and there is a real sense of communty spirit in there with everyone knowing on another. Great fun!

For a while now, there's been talk that this venue would be knocked down and moved to another part of the city, but to do so would be a total shame. With two rooms (a large one for big acts, and a small one for lesser known acts), not to mention the Academy Bar next door for more intimate gigs, it's house concerts from some really top acts over the years and many a good night has been enjoyed there by all. On Friday and Saturday nights, there are club nights for either Indie or Rock music which is guaranteed a good night. Since the smoking ban came into force, the cleaner air inside the venue has made it a much more pleasant environment.

Old and new Stands combine to give a lot of atmosphere. The site has spacious surrounds which enables it to offer perhaps the best choice of catering and refreshments of all the UK Test Match Grounds. There is a wonderful Museum of cricket located in the pavilion, open on match days throughout the season, from 9.00 a.m. until 6.30 p.m.During the out of season months, September to April, visits can be made on usually on Monday or Tuesday between 10.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. but it is always best to check before setting out that the Museum will be open. It is a real treasure trove for lovers of cricket and its history. Recently(ish) they sorted out the rather tired looking decking out the front and refurbed inside as well. Unfortunately in doing so it seems to have lost some of the charms it previously had. They've reduced the amount of seating downstairs which is probably great when it's really busy on a weekend but during the week (which is the only time I ever go) it leaves the whole place looking rather sparse. Being an ale fan I have been continually disappointed as the ales have always been off when I've been in (along with most of the better lagers as well). I can understand the intention behind the refurb as the area round St. Pauls is a little more upmarket but in sprucing the place up and removing the dive bar aesthetic they seem to have also removed the soul of the venue. Although, the Monday night quiz is well worth a go!
