Metro One Hour Photo
(1 review)
Metro is on the corner of the Ladypool Road with the junction of Brighton Road. Parking in the area…read moreis limited and despite there being double-yellow lines everywhere, people tend to park anywhere. Therefore, the roads leading to the shop tend to be congested and a driver's nightmare! Metro is a photo service centre. They have a one-hour printing service and passport-photo service, which isn't a booth but they actually sit you in a studio and take them. They sell camera films (if you still live in the photography dark ages!) as well as albums and photo frames. They offer a service to transfer VHS to DVD, which is great for old family films! Although it is a little expensive at £30 per film, especially when I had over a dozen to do. I've found it cheaper elsewhere, alternatively I could buy the VHS-to-DVD recorder for less!

Delta Pi Delta Pi…read morehas been on Selly Oak high street for yonks and although it has moved to a smaller premises, opposite it's original locale it is still keeping Selly Oak students stocked with stationary supplies. Holding a collection of typewriters just within it's doors, a feature you won't find in every stationary store, and is expressive of Delta Pi's heritage and love of the printed word. Stocking a wide range of stationary and crucially offering a binding service, essential for coursework deadline time Delta Pi is still the dominant stationary store in Selly Oak has no doubt earnt it's position with countless years of service. If you're in need of stationary in the Selly Oak area or just have a thing for old typewriters then Delta Pi is the place for you!

A recent move of premises across the road has seen them slim down their stock to take the focus away from office equipment and closer to products that might appeal to the local student population. A large display of greetings cards now sits by the window. There is also a range of antique looking typewriters near the door but I've never inquired if these are for sale or not. I'm an avid amateur sketcher and have bought art materials from this shop before. The selection and product quality were similar to what you might expect to find elsewhere but there wasn't anything particularly special about them, nor was the pricing particularly competitive. I'm not an expert about things such as acrylic paints but the selection here seemed to be similar in scope and pricing to that of my drawing materials - the kind of range you'd find in most art shops, priced slightly higher than you might expect. It should also be mentioned that Delta P I offer other services such as binding. I have not tried any of these but wouldn't be particularly worried about purchasing them form Delta P I if the need to do so arose. In conclusion, a store that has the basics well covered, but probably needs to work a bit harder if it ever wants to achieve the "wow" factor.
Kall Kwik UK

I've used this Kall Kwik on a number of occasions in the three years I have been in Birmingham and they have been super-efficient and well-priced. I just send email over what I want printed to the exact size and they print it. They always give me an exact quote before so there are never any surprises. They also let me know when they can do the printing by as I am always on a deadline with when I need to get my posters and flyers out for various events. Quite often they print the same or next day but always ask to be sure. They will also send you a proof to check before they print and offer anything from 1 poster to thousands of flyers. Of course there is a discount per item the more you have printed. Very much recommended.

Their web services are to a high standard, often conforming to major accessibility laws. It should be noted that the tend to produce clean and simplistic designs (very web 2.0), but are very effective in our modern day web environment. On the new-media side, they are technically sound, producing reasonable end products. The three main areas that I found this company to excel in are customer service, webdesign, and photography. To me they are simply my friendly local 'media-guys', happy to help me with any project from multi-camera shoots to small business websites.

Ahh Print Bots. You total Legends…read more As per Dan G's review, we needed some custom printing done for our upcoming nuptials and wanted to (ideally) keep it local. As we had done some business with them for our community market (flyers), we knew these guys did great quality work and were based just down the road in Digbeth. After Dan had done the digital designs, we had a mooch on the website to check out the prices. We found them to be highly competitive with other online retailers and were sold on their cute branding and good ethos. As well as the items we needed they offer many other services (such as stickers, posters and business cards). We didn't need the items in a major hurry, so just selected their standard service for our needs. After Dan had uploaded the designs to site and selected our items, we were good to go! As all the payment and process was based through their website; we were saved the hassle of having to go down to the Custard Factory to drop anything off. The items were printed and we were notified to collect within a couple of days. You can select delivery for a small fee, but as we're always in and out of the City Dan opted for collection (which is free). The items are totally spot on. All of the materials were fantastic quality and communication, ordering and delivery was a total breeze. Add this in to their competitive pricing and you have a company I would 100% recommend to anyone needing professional printing.

The range of printing they offer is what you would expect from a company of its ilk, but the enivironmentally friendly recycled options demonstrate this is a self-aware business operating in the noughties. Repeat business has been sent their way, and each time the company has delivered whether the job was mass mail-out cards, posters or super-swanky business cards; each time, the results have been nothing short of perfect, with the team delivering what was required in an efficient and timely manner (turn-around is pretty quick, 2-3 days). As well as this, the staff are all very personable, both polite and down-to-earth over the phone and coming across as quite a young team, heads firmly screwed on. Definitely a printing company to go for - the business I work for is located in Dudley, so there are a number of printers we could go for in much closer distance, but Print Bots is the one!

Primarily, they print T shirts. Your artwork, or design, or with a helping hand from them. Secondarily, they print other assorted clothing. They also do banners, posters, flyers and business cards - which was handy as that was what I was after. However, you'd be a little hard-pressed to know that they do anything other than garment printing as there doesn't seem to be much in the way of advertisement of this service in the shop. However, the staff were pleasant and helpful - although the guy I spoke to had to keep looking everything up when I asked him a question. At least all the info was to hand, however. The business cards are a little pricey, if you're used to good old Vistaprint freebies. That said, they are all laminated, double sided, in colour and individually designed, so fair enough. It was £75 for a pack of 500. They also have a 'no minimum order' policy on garment printing - which seems like a good thing if you just want a one-off.
