The restaurant looked appealing as I strolled through the Kreis 5 neighborhood so i got on the elevator and went to the 35th floor where the Clouds restaurant is located. With panoramic views and a semi-elegant ambiance, Clouds looked like a reasonable choice for the evening. The views are of a modern trendy bohemian neighborhood which was once an industrial complex complete with warehouses. After having a cocktail at the separate bar location, I proceeded to the dining area. Think 16 to 24 CHF for a cocktail. The bar offered a full range of cocktails. The menu is eclectic and according to my smart phone, Catalonian inspired by Chef David Martinez Salvany. The menu also features local and international dishes. Loosely interpreted, I would have to concede that it is an accurate description. They have starters and I choose the beef tartar with caviar on top. For the main course I choose the Angus Beef medium rare. Beef throughout Switzerland seems to command a premium price, at Clouds it cost 65 CHF. For what ever reason it takes a long time to be served according to my time expectations. On the bright side, it allows you to enjoy the view longer. For dessert I was contemplating having the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The presentation was worthy of a 5 Star restaurant and tasted just as satisfying. The food was enjoyable, the service begged for more training and the prices were Swiss prices which more often than not shock Americans. . For a three course dinner for one, think 100-150 CHF. In summary, a 3.5 Star rating was probably more appropriate.

Widder Bar - One pic doesn't quite capture how grand the bar looks.

The space is so beautiful that it makes you want to capture it in photos to take home. The cocktail list is short but extremely inventive and considered. I'm picky about cocktails and was on a stopover after a two week holiday where I shied away from ordering them because nothing seemed worth ordering in the area I was visiting. This menu was overwhelming, though--so many creative and thought-provoking options that it was hard to choose. We each selected one and it was utterly delicious, making us wish we had time for a second! We weren't sure what to wear and were surprised to see quite a mix, from people dressed in smart casual up to elegant attire. So it's not super prescriptive in that way. Also worth noting--my partner is celiac, so we need strict gluten free food with no cross contamination. At least one of the drinks was elaborate enough (featuring lacto-fermented strawberries) that we thought it was worth double checking with the server about cross-contamination. He took it seriously and advised us confidently (as the other hotel staff had done in our hotel experience with the Widder), and my partner stayed safe. So while we didn't order food, I suspect they would have navigated the issue well.

Bartender was friendly although not chatty. Drinks were well prepared. Small tray of nuts, etc to snack on. Nothing in Zurich is cheap but this wasn't eye popping by their standards. Everyone in our group of 3 enjoyed the experience ( and the drinks).

Can't believe that I didn't know this bar before living so near by!…read more I liked it a lot because it has live music showcases (no cover, but they do pass the hat to collect some money) and also after the show the music and ambience is just what I like! Really casual and with no entrance price this is a nice place to go out on friday or the weekend. It does get full during the show, but that is fine and after it is pretty relaxed and you can dance away! I'll come back again and hopefully with the guys from Yelp, since the next round is on me!! http://www.bar-rossi.ch/info.html

And my goodness it does this extremely well. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The clientele is in no way predefined. There is an eclectic mix of young and old, nerdy and hipster, locals and foreigners. Basically it is a place where everyone can just feel comfortable. The best thing about this place though is the live music. I have been there quite a few times, with absolutely no idea of who/what was playing and each time pleasantly surprised with the quality of music that is on show. The bar is not that big which helps in making the atmosphere as it doesn't require many people to give it that full/pumping feel. And as much a people squeeze into the back, there is always room at the front for a little boogie. After the bands back up, a DJ is generally on hand to lay down some tracks and set the mood. One of my favourite bars in Zürich!

Despite living in Zürich the last four years, I somehow had never visited the infamous Longstreet…read moreBar until last Saturday. It was a surprisingly small venue, but adequate for a small stage with an intimate audience. The walls are red plush, and the ceiling is covered in bulb lights. Kind of a strange but cool vibe. There was a 3-man band playing songs which I felt totally sounded like Placebo. The audience seemed mostly Swiss and kind of just stood around with a few people bopping their heads to the music. I almost felt not cool enough to hang with all the sockheads... but perhaps they were sockheads due to the freezing weather outside--not just because they were hipster sockheads. But then again, a lot of the sock heads didn't remove their hats indoors... so perhaps they were actually true sockheads. There was a smoking room upstairs with another dj and turntable, but the room was somehow locked and we couldn't go in. It got really crowded as the night went on, so my friend and I bounced to go check out another bar. But all-in-all, this is kind of a cool place to check out, and live music is always nice.

It can get way to crowded, which makes it unenjoyable to me. Getting a drink at the bar when it's busy is a pain in the arse. One of Longstreet Bar's best features is its attached snack bar just outside with decent drunk food like sausage and burgers. Longstreet is a good stop on Longstreet bar hop.
