The space of the park and the parking lot area was just perfect. A lot of restroom was available and it was clean. What an incredible morning. My all-time BFF Reddit alerted me to an amazing event at Fosterfields held over the course of a few spring weeks every year: the Lamb Frolic. There wasn't really THAT much frolicking, per se - our lamb settled down pretty quickly per the attached pictures - but it was a delightful hour spent in a barn stall cuddling a very sweet wooly baby, and I'd basically recommend this to anyone with a soul. According to the event page, little lambs need cuddles/interaction to prepare for the big farm world, hence the need for the Frolic. We were happy to oblige. The sign-up process was a little old school, which isn't too surprising given that this is an historic farm. You had to call Fosterfields and leave a voicemail with your name/contact info and preferred time slot to cuddle the lamb. The Millennial Chum readily agreed to partake in this adventure and was blown away that there wasn't an online reservation portal of some kind, though she seems to be confusing a farm with a suburban restaurant, which is probably not the most realistic of expectations. Regardless, someone from the farm called me back within the hour and we were set up with the final slot this past Saturday at 10:30am. The price per lamb cuddle was $50 for a max of two people, so we split the cost. A magnificent deal in my estimation. The instructions provided via email indicated we should get there at least 10 minutes beforehand, and we were both promptly there at 10:15am. I've driven past the turnoff for the farm many times on my way to hikes over by Chester, so it was easy to find once you bypassed the atrocious traffic situation by the Morristown Green (not for the faint of heart at any time of day - no one ever knows what lane they're supposed to be in). The staff was very friendly and professional. Since we got there early, they also let us start hanging out with our lamb about 10 minutes early, which was pretty classy. They carried in a gangly lamb from the main stall across the way (there looked to be about six or seven mama sheep over there with their pups), and after a few seconds of nervous baahing, he was right at home. The lamb was born the prior Monday, so this is about as fresh as it gets. He didn't even have a name yet. His mother's name was Guinevere, so I thought Sir Lambsalot was an excellent new name with the added advantage of being on theme, but the Millennial Chum overruled me and named him Cornelius for the duration of our stay. We shared our stall with a mom and daughter (probably 10ish, which is very much the target demo of this adventure, not that we let that stop us), who got to cuddle our lamb's sister, temporarily named Marigold. Also a delightful creature. The Millennial Chum is on the verge of becoming a giant TikTok star, so a significant portion of our visit was dedicated to pictures, videos and more pictures and videos. I can't speak for all lambs, but Cornelius was very photogenic and made for social media. We figured out through trial and mostly error how to hold him so he'd settle down and fall asleep (like kittens and puppies, lambs seem to be either running around manically or snoozing). Keeping him in a firm grip and letting him nuzzle his head under the chin was our primo strategy. The staff stopped by every 15 minutes or so to make sure everything was going okay and that the lambs were relatively calm (our superstar obviously was). At one point, the mom sharing our stall told the staffer that her husband was going to switch with her (citing that two people max rule) and was told that as long as the lamb was chill, he could come in too and there was no need for her to leave. Very cool. I spent the remainder of the weekend recommending this event to everyone I know, especially my friends with young daughters. If you start your mornings off like I do reading the NY Post, the world really seems like a giant dumpster fire - the Fosterfields Lamb Frolic was about as pure and innocent as it gets. This is an amazing establishment for all age groups. A historical farm in Morristown offers so much. There is a museum-style aspect, activities, and a lot of opportunities to interact with animals living on the farm. Everyone working here has been warm and welcoming. They also have amazing events available to her public including holiday style events and nature oriented gatherings. I have attended a Halloween scavenger hunt here and was so impressed with the variety activities and entertainment offered by the farm. I recommending getting a membership here as there is a plethora of events to attend and things to do. It's also beautiful in every season! read more

Let me start this review by saying, that you HAVE TO experience this site. This historical farm has so many things to do. First, the admission, $5.00, is a bargain. Before you even start with the outdoor adventure, the main building has artifacts and history information from the area. Take note.... we went on Saturday and they had two tour times....11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. When you go outside, you'll walk down to the first area......a vast garden, which holds many types of vegetables. Justin, the gardener, graciously told us the history of the garden and how this area persevered through world wars. We moved onto all of the animals. You will see, and also interact, with horses, goats, sheep, piglets, chickens, ducks,  and cows. We then moved onto our 2:00 PM tour. We met Vinny..... an exceptional, knowledgeable, and humorous guide. The tour took us through most of the mansion, interior and exterior. The facts about the families, furniture, clothing, and customs were so fascinating. Vinny allowed plenty of time for pictures and took his time in every room. I cannot recommend this farm, enough. The hours that you will spend here will be well worth your time and make sure that you take in every available encounter. read more

I went to Fosterfields today and was very nicely received by the kind lady at the front desk. She set up the video of Fosterfields' history in the lobby which I enjoyed watching. I then explained to her that I was handicapped and would not be able to walk around the Farm so she arranged for Avilan (sp?) to drive me around in a golf cart. He gave me a great tour and showed me sheep, piglets, cows etc and was very knowledgeable and courteous. Avilan than took me to where Vinnie (sp?) gave me a talk on the history of corn and how it was farmed, cultivated and prepared to feed to the hens etc. Vinnie was again extremely knowledgeable and polite and I had an excellent conversation with him. I really enjoyed my 2 hours at Fosterfields and also liked the international flavor as I'm English and A is Ukrainian and V is Spanish! I will bring my wife back as I know she'll love it all. So much fun!! Great lesson in how things were run back in the day and a fun way to spend a day. Take a tour on their wagon, see the animals, enjoy the old buildings. They also offer lessons/ classes so inquire about that. There's a lot to learn and see here. read more

The winter farmer's market here is great - well it's great for being the only open farmer's market around (other than Sparta) during the winter. They have honey, soups, and TONS of baked goods. It gets incredibly crowded as the day goes on so make sure to arrive when they open at 10. read more

We've brought our little boy here the last two summers (1.5 yrs old) and he really enjoys seeing the animals - especially the cows and chickens. They also have turkeys, ducks, sheep, pigs, horses, and a couple of barn cats. It's a great place to spend a couple of hours as you gain some insight as to how things were in the 20s and the farm has been around since the 1700s. The transportation exhibit was also a big hit this year and there is one car you can get up in and also a horse carriage type thing where you can hold the reigns of the horse statues. They have demonstrations of milking cows, collecting eggs, and grinding corn which you can feed to the chickens. There is also a guided tour of the mansion. There is a ton of land and walking around the property makes for a really nice afternoon. It is $6 for adults and free for children under 2. I believe it was $5 for senior citizens and $4 for children over 4 and $2 if they are 2-3. read more

We had a very nice afternoon here, originally stopped on Sun 9/1 for the "Pickles" exhibition, but wound up spending the afternoon. Learned a lot about the farm, farm life and the family that owned the farm. Our daughter was able to help gather eggs in the afternoon from the chickens, we watched them milk a cow (although the 2013 way). Charlie the newest calf (baby cow) was adorable. One of their pigs was due to give birth any day. We missed the tour to the Willows, the old house on the farm where the family lived, but sat for a while on the front porch in the breeze. The transportation exhibit was also great, we had never seen a car with a crank before and it was pretty neat. Overall given what we originally went to see, we were surprised at how much there was to do. Our group ranged in ages from 10-44 and it was quite enjoyable. I would think this is for families with children, but also saw some couples wandering around. read more
