Then I got a message on Facebook that a friend of mine passed away from a stroke. This made me want to take it up a notch. Knowing I didn't like the gym and wanted to do something different I read about Krav Maga. I thought to myself...what the heck, let's send an email and see if they'd take on out of shape fat guys into their fold. Lejla, the owner called me and we had a great conversation. A day or two later I went in to have my trial class to see if I liked it. I loved it. And I mean LOVED IT! While I knew I couldn't do most of it, I was ok with it. Why??? Because of Lejla and John and how encouraging they are and how motivating they are. Lejla and John are amazing people to be around and their energy is contagious. The classes and people that attend are great. I'd consider them all closer then most family members. When you go, don't be intimidated because you can't do stuff. Try, try, try! You're there to learn real world self defense with the bonus of getting into shape. No one there cares what you look like, the shape you're in or if you have any previous experience. Every class you either learn something new or practice what you've learned. No one puts anyone else down or judges. I honestly can't tell you how proud I am of this crew and myself for taking on this adventure. You will not be disappointed!

We spent 20 minutes doing the same salutation and then a brief warrior sequence no standing postures or peak poses. But that is just a preference to have a more funky flow with an intermediate level. The actual ropes course is very fun with plenty of various levels for beginner to advanced involving a climbing wall, zip line, and various heights. We also did more group level challenges with an actual leader from the camp. Our leader John was a very thoughtful friendly man who ensured we were safe while working as a team. The bathrooms onsite are very clean. We had lunch here as well, it was 'Taco Tuesday' on a Monday-- a full taco bar with churros, popsicles, and fruit. The dining area is a very classic bare bones camp environment, but the views from the outside tables are phenomenal on a sunny day. They have a small little beach with a pier for kayaking.

The staff are…read morevery, very friendly and helpful, the Bloody Mary's at Greenie's (inside the clubhouse) are oh-so-tasty, and the food - oh, man, the food. For lunch, we had wonderfully tender turkey and freshly-sliced hot beef sandwiches - yum. Outstanding dinner: Homemade mac 'n cheese with bacon, medium rare sirloin, crab salad and bread pudding for dessert. I washed it down with a New Glarus Spotted Cow Wheat, a local favorite. 'Twas more-than-satisfying. Overall, I give the cause five stars and food four stars. As for the course, I give it a three. I don't consider myself a golf course connoisseur, but I was not overly impressed. (I never thought I'd say this about any course, but they need more sand traps.) Aside from the cause, it's a three-and-a-half, but for a course that supports a cause such as the McGMO, I've rounded it up. It's great to see the golf course and community get involved in such a great event. I will be returning.

Our vacation in Lake Geneva started off with spotty weather. Seeking to find an indoor activity…read moreplace our B&B suggested Climb @ The Loop Commons in Burlington, WI. Climb is a bouldering gym that caters to all skill levels. Bouldering was on my bucket list and since we had the day free, we made the brief 20 minute commute to the facility. Once there street parking was easy to find. Arriving on a weekday allowed us to have the gym to ourselves. The lady at the front desk checked us in, we signed waiver forms and got fitted for bouldering shoes. The changing area, locker room and gym are downstairs. The gym is a 2 story space that has colored coded bouldering routes a.k.a. "problems" to solve. The beginner level routes were labeled green and since my husband and I had zero bouldering experience, going green was the way to go. The lady who checked us in, I forgot her name but we got to chatting and learned she was a former Naperville, IL resident, was super helpful. She got us started on our first problem and gave us quick and useful techniques as we were maneuvering through. We did a total of 3 problems each and had fun going through them. Bouldering takes dedication, strategy, physical strength and dexterity. It is definitely a total body workout which left both hubby and I sore afterwards using muscles we don't normally use day to day. Regardless it was worth the experience. We got a good workout, had lots of fun and found an indoor activity we could see ourselves doing in the future.
