They can range from the moderately-priced to the exorbitant, and not all are worth what you pay. This little independent grocery store, however, not only has everything you need with quality you can trust, but the prices are actually worth what you get. They have a little bit of everything, with carefully-picked selections to satisfy even the staunchest vegetarian, vegan, and even Paleo-lover out there. From fine meats and cheeses, to super healthy drinks and take-away meals, and even a little something to satisfy that sweet tooth, (and yes, that's healthy for you, too). My favorites are the really hard-to-find items like the grain-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free granola and cereal options that are a bit pricey, but definitely worth what you pay for them, as a little bit will keep you going for hours, and tastes delicious. They have plenty of other yummy snacks like vegan coconut jerky and ready-made meals for on-the-go, including healthy juices and smoothies. They also carry unique and interesting beverages like maple and birch tree waters that are high in magnese, zinc, vitamin C, and other minerals. They even have black alkaline waters with activated charcoal that acts as a magnet for toxins in your body. Everything else from the bread to the booze also looks good, and while you may break the bank a little on a routine shopping trip, it will force you to spend your money well, invest in your health, and make it last. And...LOOK at this selection of tea. All the tea! And organic things. Many organic things. Homemade things! The soups in particular have very limited ingredients (read -- no crap) and are really great. Try the butternut squash/almond and split pea/ham. I'll be honest -- I can only take the bright lights of Tesco/Food Co-OP/Sainsburys for about 30 seconds before I want to expire along with all the fruit and veg that are hanging on to their last dying breath before some sucker takes them home. I might as well be on "Supermarket Sweep" -- sometimes I'm in and out so fast I barely know what I got. I just loathe the experience so much I want to be just as short as possible. This is the only grocery shop in London that I actually ENJOY. It's a nice, manageable size. The aisles are wide enough for 2 people to be in them at once. I enjoy looking at different products. The Grocery may be expensive, but as Steve B says -- "it sells nice things." And sometimes you've just had enough shrink wrap/pre-fab food from all those other crap supermarkets and you want some nice things and its worth the investment. Nice wholesome, diverse food. It's novel and it's nice. There, I said it! I tried to resist but sometimes (usually?) the hipsters are spot on when it comes to topics such as these. The Grocery is a winner. *takes cards. *there's a little takeaway coffee place right near the registers. *cash machines outside. Parent Fact: *this is one of the only places I've found that carries Nanny Care Goat's Milk Infant formula. Totally random, but I was quite happy to find this out! (I usually order from Amazon, but nice to know there is a local place to pick it up). Otherwise their baby food stuff is crazily overpriced, for the record!

Crispy rice and pea chips are my new favourite snack food, and Black Tower wine has also found itself high on my list of things that I seek when I come to the store. I also love the Innocent-brand green juices. I tried the limoncello dessert as well, but it was a little sweet for my taste. The selection is decent, as are the prices, and they have quite a few interesting things that we don't have back in the States: like Jack and Coke or gin cocktails. Together. In one can. Brilliant.

I've also bought a jar of salsa that was apparently already opened. If you come here within an hour before closing, you will have to step over boxes messily strewn across the already limited floorspace, as the worker are restocking the shelves. With that said, this market is in a convenient location and is open until like midnight.

We're hard done by supermarket wise us Shoreditch residents. Sure, there's a health food store here and a Tesco Express there but we don't really have our own supermarket. A thousand and one places to buy a vodka tonic? Sure. A place to stock up on food essentials? In your dreams. The closest thing we have is Sainsburys Islington and boy is it a good supermarket. Great deli and meat sections, a good range of produce, hard to find health foods and a diet busting bakery all conspire to make us Shoreditch residents wish we resided in N1 instead. This place makes a mockery of Tesco with its superior quality and similar prices and all things considered, it's probably worth non-Islington residents going to Sainsbury's Islington every week or so and just catching a cab home. It's that good.

Why? 1) I am used to it and know I can get everything I am looking for there. 2) The quality of the food is high and selection is good. 3) I also sometimes buy their 'Taste the Difference' foods which usually deliver as well as the 'Basics' range (eg loo rolls which are great value). 4) Prices are good. The only downside to the Islington branch is that it doesn't have the best layout (long and wedge shaped) and the car park stuck at the back means you have to schlep your trolley in the rain through an obstacle course all the way around the side of the store past the crowds waiting for the bus along the pavement but this is a minor complaint really given the central London location. The Camden Town Sainsbury also has an underground car park but is a newer store. That branch also has an in store bakery which Islington doesn't. Weekends, especially Sunday, also tend to be a zoo so either be prepared for the crowds or go during the week. Bonus of the car park however is that you can visit the excellent market stalls in Chapel market and pick up some great bargains on fruit and veg as well as fish. There is an excellent fish stall in the market with much lower prices than you'll find in Supermarkets and probably fresher.

Wildest of all is their American section! There's a large variety of American candies, boxed products like Kraft Mac 'n' Cheese and Pop Tarts, and way, way more. It must be seen to be believed. I frankly haven't changed much over the years. I stayed in South Kensington. I loved it. Across from Gloucester Road tube station was this Waitrose. It had everything that I needed. I tend to get lemons and make lemon tea in the morning. Waitrose had lemons, so I got three that lasted my entire stay. The baked goods section is excellent. I got croissants here. They were flaky, buttery, and yummy. I got some peanut brittle, too. It was so good. Butter tends to make anything taste better. I remember seeing self-checkouts here. I ended up wanting a human. He was great. I paid with a credit card. It worked perfectly. I'm so glad that this Waitrose still exists. It was a good grocery store that had everything I needed while I was here for a week. (38)

Fresh veggies in the product section, delicious meats in the butchery, fresh cheeses, olives and salads. If I lived in this part of London, I'd absolutely be shopping here! I was just wandering the neighborhood, so I only picked up a delicious crunchy French loaf to have with stuff I had already picked up elsewhere. Because it is in such an urban location, parking may be a bit of a challenge. Note that this Waitrose offers deliver and some other Waitrose-only services (glass loan?).

I usually pick up some water, juice, cheese and bread for our hotel room. I am not sure about there prices because I like to pretend that prices are not GBP and are USD. This summer my son purchased some batteries from here for one of his games and opened the package to realize he bought the wrong size so we went back to the store and they let him exchange it with no problem. Their hours are very short. The don't open early and they close early.
