They also have message chairs downstairs and offer a 5 minute taster. I will also say that this shop has a largish selection of beauty products downstairs like Jason and Green People. I would come here again and buy my favourite soymilk on their sale display. I don't know why I don't love this store. Maybe I should try their pollen drink called Winter Anecdote.

It makes me smile when I walk past it as it's the best independent cafe in West Hampstead and really friendly. In fact, I want to go now!

Staff are largely Spanish, and I believe the proprietor is a local recently returned from a long stint living in Spain. Good selection of charcuterie and other Spanish items, including wines, sherry , and olive oil - not cheap, but the quality is good, and one of the main selling points is that a good proportion is organic and ethically sourced. There is also a small number of tables, where you can enjoy a coffee and light snacks.

They can range from the moderately-priced to the exorbitant, and not all are worth what you pay. This little independent grocery store, however, not only has everything you need with quality you can trust, but the prices are actually worth what you get. They have a little bit of everything, with carefully-picked selections to satisfy even the staunchest vegetarian, vegan, and even Paleo-lover out there. From fine meats and cheeses, to super healthy drinks and take-away meals, and even a little something to satisfy that sweet tooth, (and yes, that's healthy for you, too). My favorites are the really hard-to-find items like the grain-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free granola and cereal options that are a bit pricey, but definitely worth what you pay for them, as a little bit will keep you going for hours, and tastes delicious. They have plenty of other yummy snacks like vegan coconut jerky and ready-made meals for on-the-go, including healthy juices and smoothies. They also carry unique and interesting beverages like maple and birch tree waters that are high in magnese, zinc, vitamin C, and other minerals. They even have black alkaline waters with activated charcoal that acts as a magnet for toxins in your body. Everything else from the bread to the booze also looks good, and while you may break the bank a little on a routine shopping trip, it will force you to spend your money well, invest in your health, and make it last. But given repeated exposure (I get massages downstairs at My Treatment Rooms) -- it was just too hot to handle. I admit it, I like this place. A lot. It's just so damn appealing. And expensive. And...LOOK at this selection of tea. All the tea! And organic things. Many organic things. Homemade things! The soups in particular have very limited ingredients (read -- no crap) and are really great. Try the butternut squash/almond and split pea/ham. I'll be honest -- I can only take the bright lights of Tesco/Food Co-OP/Sainsburys for about 30 seconds before I want to expire along with all the fruit and veg that are hanging on to their last dying breath before some sucker takes them home. I might as well be on "Supermarket Sweep" -- sometimes I'm in and out so fast I barely know what I got. I just loathe the experience so much I want to be just as short as possible. This is the only grocery shop in London that I actually ENJOY. It's a nice, manageable size. The aisles are wide enough for 2 people to be in them at once. I enjoy looking at different products. The Grocery may be expensive, but as Steve B says -- "it sells nice things." And sometimes you've just had enough shrink wrap/pre-fab food from all those other crap supermarkets and you want some nice things and its worth the investment. Nice wholesome, diverse food. It's novel and it's nice. There, I said it! I tried to resist but sometimes (usually?) the hipsters are spot on when it comes to topics such as these. The Grocery is a winner. *takes cards. *there's a little takeaway coffee place right near the registers. *cash machines outside. Parent Fact: *this is one of the only places I've found that carries Nanny Care Goat's Milk Infant formula. Totally random, but I was quite happy to find this out! The café is smaller than it looks from the outside - there is basically one table to sit at, but when the sun is as brilliantly shining as it is at the moment, one can enjoy food and drinks al freso at additional tables outside. The coffee I had was ok, and perhaps because we got there late on a Sunday afternoon the food selection wasn't overwhelming. (A couple of cupcakes and a sandwich). But they do sell delicious bread, cakes and cupcakes from London's best bakery (E5) and the "Happy Kitchen". That means the sweet stuff is vegan - thumbs up for that! In addition they offer a variety of health foods and ingredients (including Asian food), as well as eco toiletries, cleaning products, etc. The selection is somewhat limited compared to other, bigger stores, but if you live in the area "Healthy Stuff" definitely provides a useful resource.

This part of Dalston Lane isn't very busy so there'll proably always be a free seat and you wouldn't be disturbed by shoppers passing by either. The blackbord above the till lists a menu of salads, toasies, fresh juices, and other wholesome treats. I loved my green salad with avocado, sprouts, and basil tofu. For a dish and a big glass of juice you'll pay about 10 pounds per person. It's unlikely that I'll find myself in that area again soon but I'd recommend a visit to anyone who happens to be around.

The staff are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. First impressions were great - the menu looked interesting and prices about standard for this genteel, leafy back street of Peckham (more akin to East Dulwich's Lordship Lane than grotty Rye Lane just up the road). The sun was beating down so we happily sat outside, amused by the sounds coming from the dog grooming parlour next door. Leave it! Off! Leave it! No waitress appeared so we went inside to make our order direct to the man in the kitchen, who I think may also be the owner. He was very pleasant and my coffee came out pretty quickly, with the food arriving a little while after. The beans on toast looked very appetizing, cooked with either green peppers or green beans which made it a bit more special (and slightly more worth the £3.50 cost). The Buljol and Rootsy breakfasts looked modestly sized for the £6.50 price tag, but had a good mix of components. I had the Rootsy and was disappointed that the homemade vegan sausage was in fact just a few small, dry chunks of sausage mixture rather than the succulent, traditionally-shaped sausage I was hoping for. The scrambled tofu was nice but relatively tasteless, bearing a striking resemblance to what was meant to be ackee in my friend's Buljol plate. She ate hers too quickly for me to check if it was the same thing - mine didn't taste of ackee though, strange! Strangely my toast was served with wraps of butter on the side - you'd expect that anywhere else but it was a very weird feature in a place with the word vegan on the sign. I left pleased to have visited Grass Roots to sample and support but bemoaning the fact that the only place to get a hearty vegan breakfast is still Brighton, miffed that the experience had put me out £6.50 yet interested to return for other food and cakes some time. A good breakfast can be hard to find but I'm willing to wager Grass Roots does a very fine lunch. Incidentally, a lock on the toilet door would be much appreciated!
