I attempted to open an account with this bank online today, upon completion of the process online I was given a thank you screen and that I would hear from them regarding my application for membership in 3 days....what? I check my current bank and while I'm expected to wait 3 days they took my deposit immediately... I call and inquire and it seems they require some manor of identification, fine I'll try the old fashioned way, at the suggestion of the rep I was speaking to I visit the branch and confirm my identity and explain to the young man at the branch in Commack I am seeking to open an account, that I completed the online process and this seems to be the holdup. This individual advises me he will look into it and email me with my account numbers and make everything happen, well thank you. So far I think this is just an anomaly and all will work out. 3 hours later I receive and email not from him but from technical services stating they need a copy of my drivers license or other form of id to complete my application, also included in the email is a number to call if I have any questions. I call and I speak to "Kevin", this is the individual who single handedly made me never want to do business with this bank. Kevin has no idea how to talk to people and cant seem to comprehend that Ive been to the branch and confirmed my information. Kevin cant offer any solutions, has no idea what or how to make my account happen or offer any assistance in any way. I tell Kevin to cancel my application and to remove all of my personal information from the record, Kevin claims he will and then refuses to fully identify himself or his department for me to follow up with and hangs up on me. Wanted some confirmation that this is going to be cancelled and my information removed from the record I head back to the branch so I can speak to a real person. This personnel at the branch seem to be good people and suggest if I had come to the branch etc...,considering the idea was the convenience of the online system, which revealed itself to be awful. I advise him to end his effort to make my account and that I would'nt be seeking an account with them, thank you good day.. I get home check my email and there is an email from SVP Robert Hoppenstedt stating basically thanks for you application but we are unable to approve your application online, please visit a branch. ....are you kidding me! On the plus side I discovered BFCU is terribly lacking in customer concern, support and organization before I put my money in there vault. read more

I am not a BFCU customer. However, as an Island FCU member I've used the Patchogue branch mostly for the ATM, and occasionally for between credit union services inside. Those few experiences inside would lead me to give BFCU a 4 or 5 star rating. My two star rating right now is a result of trying to contact them by phone! There is no direct number to the branch. The toll free number's interactive menus are set up on the basis of having an account already. Hitting zero for operator does not work, and my call was for something unrelated to any of the menu choices. Indeed, it was something that could only have been answered by a live person at the Patchogue branch! I'd had no plans of moving my accounts from Island Federal. And based on this failed interaction, see no reason for switching to Bethpage. Oh! During business hours IFCU's system will get a live person very quickly! read more

I received a call from a Stuart Salembier | Assistant Vice President Regional Manager - Eastern Region after i posted my letter on there Facebook page, He said last week he would look into it this week. I get a email back today telling me stuff I already knew accept nobody took responsibility for the problem .I wrote back and got a email back saying my email was blocked and he gave me some one else's phone number for any problems , I'm completely disgusted for there lack of concern and lack of taking responsibility for a problem they created. read more

I just started banking here last month, and I love it so far! They have a plethora of ATMS, and really minimal fees (unlike my last bank, NYCB). Just to sign up for an account and hand in your old debit card, you get $100! Also, any person you recommend to this bank, you'll receive $25. Sweet! The only reason I took away 1 star is that they close pretty early on most days (4 pm), and are only open until 6 pm on their "late" days. This won't be an issue though really, once my direct deposit finally goes through from work. read more

I'm a client since 2003, and they were always good. However, one case stand more than others, and that's why I write this review - we needed a large money-transfer from another bank - in a very short notice. They promised to try, and they did - the money was transferred, timely, saving us a lot of money. I think service should be judged in problematic situations, and they did very good, even when they didnt NEED to do it. I cant see any big bank give us such 'out-of-the-box' service, I appreciate this!! read more

I wish I could give negative stars for BFCU. I had unauthorized charges on my account over a month ago and it's still not resolved. Someone made a fraudulent eBay act. using my information and made 2 purchases, one for $586 for 3.5oz of dog food and another for generic no name sneakers for $619, eBay recognized the scam and suspended both the seller and fake buyers act. Immediately and indefinitely. Bethpage denied my claim and said their decision is final. After speaking to multiple associates they said they escalated my case. I contacted Bethpage through email and left message on FB and finally someone called me and said I'd hear from someone Monday, that's today.. I spoke to the fraud department again and they decided they're still not going to help me, they do recognize it's fraud but won't refund my money. Bethpage holds my money, my accounts and money is supposed to be insured and secured, they've proven that ITS NOT. They have been extremely unprofessional to deal with, I'll be closing all accounts indefinitely. BETHPAGE WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOU ARE SCAMMED!! I learned a hard lesson as to why you should keep your money with a REAL bank!! read more

Almost everything about banking with Bethpage is great. This branch has: -Coin Counting -Usually fast service -Nice tellers They have many branches on the island, and while I've never done it, it's cool you can go to almost any credit union (because they have a network) to bank. Their rates are great, the tellers are friendly, and they have coin counting. My complaints with the Credit Union itself: The biggest thing that sucks about them, though, is how they deal with their services. On two separate occasions, my debit AND credit card with them was stolen electronically. At the worst times too, one was a Saturday night (they aren't open Sunday) and one was out of state. When you call them, you're both on hold forever, and not speaking to them directly. They have a third party dealing with everything. It took a week for me to receive both new cards, and I'm still trying to get the charge from my credit card removed, whereas if this happened with my Citi or Discover card, the charges would've been removed right then and there, and my replacement card would've been overnighted. The app for my phone is super outdated as well, and you can't access the credit card through it. All in all, I'll continue to bank with them because they're much more personable, than say, Chase. read more

This bank is great unless you run into a problem- Then all hell happens. During Covid pandemic - while I was trying to keep my life together my bank account was hacked and Bethpage allowed fraudulent charges to be processed for 6 months. I checked my account numerous times but bc the charges were scattered and few throughout the day it was hard to detect. I didn't notice until 6 moths later - $7000 was taken little by little all charges from another state - without any alert or warning. Bethpage only refunded me half the amount - and said it was my responsibility too. I have never experienced this before - I am suing them for the rest of MY money - that I, as a client have entrusted them to protect. I think it is very convenient for Bethpage to charge members such a high price/penalty for a breach to their own system. It gives them zero incentive to make their system better. I've been banking with BFCU for years now, never had any problems at all. The low rating is for this particular branch based solely on customer service. They could use a dose of service with a smile. I always leave this branch feeling like I just got off the line at Walmart. There always seems to be a long line and only two tellers, both of whom look like they rather be anywhere than at BFCU. And that is how they make me feel. Makes me wish i'd just went to the machine instead of standing in a 20minute line only to get their fake how are you and poutty faces .. I much prefer the central islip branch too bad they are far from home. Maybe the lovely friendly Citibank has spoiled me and made me think I should get service with a smile. Idk read more

I have had a auto loan with Bethpage Federal credit union for 4 years, while never missing a payment. On Sat. 4/7/16 they repossessed my work truck ,informing me that I had missed several payments.I called the bank and they told me that I had dropped my insurance on truck, so therefore they insured my truck.I told them on saturday that I have never removed insurance on my truck and can submit proof that insurance was in tact on said vehicle.They informed me that I would have to wait to Monday to dispute this,its now Monday and I had to leave a message on there voicemail because no one in collections dept. is picking up the phone.This will be day 3 of no work vehicle and a ton of aggravation. read more

My husband and I went to the Hempstead Branch of Bethpage Federal Creidit Union for a Home Equity Line of Credit this February. We knew at time of application we would be denied based on reported income, but were told if we provided further information within 30 days of application we wouldn't have to re-apply. We were denied right away, and submitted the information they needed to move further. We waited almost 2 weeks and received no answer. I decided to E-mail the loan officer and he responded 2 days later stating he hadn't heard from the Loan Processor but would Email her to see if she received all the papers. Again no answer after waiting almost 4 weeks. I now call the main general phone number for the BFCU offices, there is no direct number to the branch or its employees. I was told my request for status to our application will be handled by the loan officer and he will return my call. No call! It's now in the middle of April (4 weeks) and had to go back to the Branch where the Assistant Branch Manager investigated further on my behalf as to why I received no answer. After apologizing, I was told that I would have to re-apply and re-submit all the information I had done previously. Why? She couldnt directly answer that but I suspect it was because the Loan Processor and/or Loan officer didn't go thru the paper work in a timely matter. If we were denied again why couldnt they tell us like the first time? Why didn't even have the courtesy to call me to advise us of this! If I had not gone to visit the branch in person would I still be waiting? Bethpage Federal Credit Union could CARE LESS about their customers and you should not trust them in handling Loan applications! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

There seems to be serious attitude problems with this branch in particular. Policies are inconsistently applied and tellers act like they are doing you a favor. Even other branches of BFCU are way nicer and easier to deal with. The simplest transactions, like a simple deposit, take longer than they should at this branch. read more

I have only dealt with the Bethpage Office. I have never had a problem and as a matter of fact when someone broke into my account, it was BFCU that notified me. They knew before I did. I went to BFCU that Saturday morning and everything was handled and completed in a timely manner. I have been a member for 48 years when they were only available to Grumman workers. I have never had any bad experiences. read more

Horrible. Horrible customer service. Nobody knows what they are doing and they really don't care. Also don't try to ask questions about your account or ATM access. You might get flagged without warning. Total waste of time. Wait times are very bad too. Will also be filing a complaint with the BBB Go to another credit union if you can! read more

After 25 yrs with them, they have gone from 5 star to 1 star these days. From loans to opening new accts, they couldn't get any thing right if they tried. After looooong waits on phone, still can't get corrections. I hate them now and leaving. read more
