Coach Jason as well as his coaching staff are excellent at teaching school age children and challenging them to be their best. The class incorporates the right amount of structure, discipline, physical fitness, and fun. There is always a good number of coaches on the mats so that each child can receive additional personalized guidance. Students are evaluated individually and promoted accordingly you won't get an eleven-year black belt here everything is earned not given. In addition to the awesome training environment the coaches are amazing human beings. Battlefield Jiu Jitsu has fundraisers and donates to charitable causes. The annual Christmas party is something that all the students look forward to every year. Battlefield Jiu Jitsu personifies the essence of martial arts and it shows in the coaching staff all the way down to the lowest belt student. If you are considering enrolling yourself or your children in a martial arts program look no further......... get down here and talk to coach Jason and start your 30-day trial ASAP

I have practiced at several BJJ centers. There is something special about Scott and his gym. To me,…read morethere are two fundamentals for choosing a gym. First, how good are the instructors at teaching? Owning a black belt is irrelevant to whether you can explain moves effectively, showcase moves effectively, and develop a training regimen that matches individuals and their unique personalities and skill sets. On this front, Scott and his team are exceptional. Good communicators. Patient. And they possess that rare ability to deconstruct moves into simple to follow sequences. Second, what is the culture of the gym? You can have an exceptional set of teachers but the culture could be unhealthy. A gym can be too competitive, with men and women trying to prove their mettle and worth by berating each other and hazing newbies. A gym's culture can show shades of misogyny, racism, ageism, and degrade students who lack sufficient strength, stamina, speed, agility, and general wit and ease. On this front, I have never been to a gym with a healthier, friendlier culture than Centreville BJJ. It starts with Scott and extends to all of his staff. I have seen how they interact with superior athletes, non-athletic teams, men, women, boys, and girls. The staff here makes an effort to be open, receptive and friendly while providing the serious discipline and training that is desired. To go one step further, Scott worked with my wife to create a one day workshop for our teenage daughters and their friends on self-defense. It was fun. It was serious. It was thoughtful. And the girls learned several moves to protect themselves that are still in their arsenal today. I give my strongest recommendation.

I used to love this location (Fairfax) of Kaize . However, recent changes have made me decide to…read morepull my kids out and go to a different location. My kids are in the youngest age group (under 7). They used to be taught by adult Sempais, and I could see them gaining skills, self control, respect, etc. But this location recently changed to allowing older kids to serve as Sempais and run the class. These kids don't have any experience with teaching children - they're still children themselves. The focus of classes has shifted from learning skills to just "conditioning" - running, sit-ups, push-ups, etc. And these child instructors just don't have the self-control to serve as instructors. At the end of most classes, the Sensei/Sempai ends with a fun game to conclude on a fun note. But recently, the child Sempai leading a dodgeball-type game got carried away and way too competitive and was throwing the ball full force into little kids' faces. I saw a 4 yr old get slammed in the face (by the Sempai) so hard she fell down. And the Sempai appeared to like it and continued to throw full full force at other 4, 5, and 6 year olds. That was the breaking point for me. The other Kaizen locations are good, and we'll stick to those ones.

Najim, the coach is great. He is very technical in his instructions but still very understanding that it takes time to learn the techniques. Plus he has a strong competitive record: Multiple Sabaki (full contact Enshin Competition) wins and multiple Muay Thai Titles. It should be noted that some of the techniques are modified compared to pure Muay Thai to more of a Dutch style of Muay Thai. The classes run one hour, with about 10 minutes of warm up and stretching, about 40 minutes of technique training, and then about 10 minutes of calisthenics at the end. The varieties of techniques vary class to class ranging from the very basics to sparring for the more experience students. Also available are: Children and Adult Karate - I don't know a ton about these but have seen Najim coaching the children's classes and the kids seem to be learning alot of good techniques and still having a ton of fun. Also Enshin Karate, being a combination of kickboxing and Judo, does teach many techniques that are very real world usable should the students need them in an actual self defense situation. Gracie Jiu Jitsu - These classes are taught by Toney Waldecker, a blackbelt under Relson Gracie, son of Helio Gracie - the inventor of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I don't know a lot about these classes either but Toney seems to be a very good trainer and Relson visits the dojo a few times a year it seems.

I cannot say enough good things about Jesse Hernandez, Professor Glaucia, and their students at…read moreGracie Barra Chantilly after visiting the academy this week. From the day I walked in the door asking for a schedule, I got a strong sense I'd be in good hands, and yesterday's experience confirmed this. In this sport, injuries happen from time to time, and it's in those moments you really want to know you're surrounded by good people looking out for your best interest. Having been training for about 4 years, I can say for certain after suffering a minor setback with my shoulder (which I'd previously injured in the past) that this gym embodies everyting I look for with their culture and approach to Jiu Jitsu. Students look out for one another and train with the best intentions, and Jesse and Professor Glaucia could not have been more helpful to me that day. They helped me change clothes, got me a shoulder patch to help provide some relief, helped me get my gear back into the car, and then Jesse and I spent the better half of the day together. He drove me in my car to two different medical facilities, helped keep me calm, and stayed with me throughout the experience. During that time, Professor Glaucia also called to check in and see how I was doing. I learned a lot about what it means to Jesse not just to be a martial artist, marine, and father; but a human being. He is an extremely thoughtful and selfless person and I would be honored and blessed to train under him in the future. He even checked in to see how I was doing today as I was writing this. I highly, highly recommend this academy, especially those with families, because you're going to feel at home here with the way they take care of you.

Not only has it been great for our physical fitness, but it has been awesome for the mental challenge and the bonding that comes with a family participating in the same activity. The Professor and Coaches do an exceptional job training the kids and keeping them safe. I would say one of their strongest attributes is the way they pour words of encouragement into the kids (and the adults), helping to build their confidence and self-esteem. I have always felt safe attending classes and always look forward to going. (Highly recommend doing this with your spouse, if possible!)
