I gave them one star because they did an excellent job at snow removal. When it comes to moving out they give you a long list of things that have to be done for move out. I hired a professional cleaner and the apartment was pristine. They charged me extra for broken blinds. None of the blinds were broken and scrapes on the wall "normal wear and tear". They charge you to steam clean the carpets and go through with a black light so they can charge you for invisible stains. I complained to management and they still charged me. If you rent with them don't expect to get your full deposit back.

Me, my girlfriend and her daughter had a horrible experience applying for an apartment on this…read moreproperty. On June 26th, we took a tour with someone who wished to relinquish their lease to us. We applied the next day and were approved! All we had to do was turn in our security deposit and first month's rent. On July 28th, we went to turn in our money. The woman that morning was incredibly rude to my girlfriend and made heavy implications that we would be bad tenants based on our age (saying they "ran a tight ship," told us "absolutely no parties," and that she "wanted to maintain a quiet community." We are 21 and 24 and the child is 4), relationship status and income. Mind you, together we make more than 3x monthly rent, and were already approved the day prior. She discussed her concerns with us potentially breaking up since we were unmarried and not being able to pay rent on one income if we did (which was odd, since she decided to inform us they would instead be offering a monthly lease instead of yearly). Despite this, we filled out the paperwork, and went off to furniture shop for what we assumed would be our new home. We get a call less than an hour later informing us that we had suddenly been denied. On the phone call when we asked why, the woman informed us that they wouldn't combine our income. When picking up our money, we asked why again, and she vaguely explained that the owner reviewed the application (which mind you, had already been approved) and made the decision to deny us. My girlfriend and her daughter were devastated, I was left feeling confused and betrayed, and now we are back at square one. So unless you are married, I would not recommend visiting this property for a tour or applying for an application. Oh and you don't get your application fee back, which the day prior we were informed we would get a refund if we were denied at any point, then we're given conflicting information the next day that there were absolutely no refunds on the $20 ($40 for the both of us) application fee. Overall a horrible experience, and I can't help but feel we were cheated out of a wonderful place due to our age, relationship status and their refusal to combine our income. But if this is how management treats their tenants, then perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.

They refused to pay for it because they said it was not their fault. I filed a claim with our house insurance and my insurance paid. The insurance company tried to collect from this roofing contractor and said that they had no insurance at the time of the accident.

After what my mother in law went thru with Schermerhorn Properties I would NEVER do business with…read morethem in any way shape or form. She put down a deposit for a two bedroom apt, her husband died, they wanted her to complete lease. THey said the only way out of it was to get a doctors note. She did get the doctors note and came to live with us. We gave them more than a month's notice. They refused to give back a substanial deposit. Not one penny. She never even moved in!! And as i said they had more than a month's notice. Yes it is in the lease she signed. It is just poor business. Never ever would i do any business with them.
