The Fox and Hound is a charming pub in Renfrewshire's Houstoun. It is divided into two bars downstairs and a restaurant upstairs, the latter of which I visited for lunch a few days ago. The restaurant offers a lunchtime deal of two courses for £10. I decided just to order off the menu however, as I didn't fancy the vegetarian option. To start I got the courgette fritters which were very tasty. For the main I plumped for the apple and mushroom stroganoff which was decent pub plain fare but not worth the £8 price tag in my opinion The Fox and Hound was the perfect place for a family lunch. We arrived with two babies in tow which was easily accommodated. My only other complaint is the fact that the restaurant closes between 3 and 5pm, leaving not much time to linger over a cup of tea. read more

Currently the yelp Foxs and hound paisley page is a duplicate page for the Fox and Hound in Renfrewshire. Since this yelp was created first I will rate on this page. I thought this place closed down as there were no current ratings for 2014. This pub is difficult to find after exiting off the main freeway but our group was able to find it with help from local businesses outside of Glasgow. This building is inviting and warm. Bought a pint of Houston Warlock and 1/2 pint of Killellen reasonably priced at about 3.5 pounds and 1.8 respectively. The flavor of the warlock was too bitter and dark but drinkable. The Killellen tasted as a pale ale should, tart and acidic. The microbrewery is located on the premise and you can purchase a case of beer to go. No shirts or hats for sale. :-). The carpet is unique as the fireplace and lounge area. Families do congregate here as well as the young folks who like to drink beer. The town of Houston is suburban and quiet. Lots of Mercedes and Porsches driving amongst the coaches and economy cars passing by. Hehehe Haven't tried the food but would come back for a pint of Guinness or Warlock. read more

I have been going to the Fox and Hounds for a very long time. My family live in the neighbouring town and we would come here for family days out. Later on, I often would meet up with friends here on weekends when I returned from University. When I returned to Scotland, I was enthusiastic to come back to the Fox and Hounds to enjoy another evening with friends at this lovely country pub in the heart of a quaint conservation village. However, the Fox and Hounds has changed ownership and we arrived to the sight of several drunk youths outside the door of the pub and loud music coming from inside. We retreated to the lounge bar and tried to ignore the maelstrom next door. It was not possible, the music made talking difficult and the occasional interruption by the dance party attendees into the lounge bar was not very pleasant. It seems to have changed from "the place to be" in Houston to a low rent bar that stands out for all of the wrong reasons in this village . Eventually, we just gave up and moved to the nearby Houston Inn. I am not a big fan of this place but it was definitely an improvement over the Fox and Hounds. It is a shame that the Fox has decided take this direction. They may attract youths to drink cheaply on a Friday night but they will lose folks who enjoy the character of a village pub. I am definitely not going back. Edit - I recently posted my concerns on the Fox and Hounds Facebook page and the comment was deleted and my account blocked from their page. I was then told by someone who still goes to the Fox that the owners are very pleased that everyone on Facebook was so positive about the changes at the Fox and Hounds. read more

The Fox & Hound is a great little pub in the lovely village of Houston. For me this place looks like a pub should. It is slightly old fashioned and quaint but not tatty and worn like some "traditional" pubs can be! I am a regular attendee of the Tuesday Night pub quiz which draws quite a young crowd from the local area and the atmosphere is pleasantly busy but not loud or overly boisterous! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and there is a cosy, villagey, family feel about the place, but not in a "League of Gentlemen, are you a local?" way! In a disused cellar of the Fox and Hound is the Houston Brewing Company which you can take a tour of and find out all about the brewing process. The Houston Brewing Company produces award winning ales including an "ale of the month" and the much loved Houston Crystal ale. Of course you can sample these at the Fox and Hound pub. The Fox and Hound in conjunction with the Houston Brewing Company hold regular beer festivals. The next is on the 9th of May 2010 and I highly recommend it. The beer festivals are always a great day out with entertainment in the form of live music and a yummy barbecue! read more

The Fox and Hound is a homely, traditional pub in Houston, Renfrewshire. It is very popular with locals but this could be due to the fact there are no other decent pubs in the area. There is an extensive menu of tasty pub grub which is served in the upstairs restaurant. However, the food is overpriced which I often find in country pubs. Honey, I'm home! Despite moving to our lovely capital, visits home always include a little saturday afternoon drinking in The Fox. Great choice of wines and spirits and the offerings from the pub's own brewery are fab. Post match on a saturday afternoon is a great time to visit with samples from the Fox's kitchen being passed around (awesome pork crackling today chef!) and its just such a great cosy place to get comfortable in :-) read more

The Fox has it's own brewery attached which produces fantastic and famous ales. The main bar itself is nice and cosy, decorated with fox heads, brasses and riding paraphernalia, in keeping with the fox and hounds theme. Fox hunting thrived in Houston up until the ban and the barking of the hounds could be heard for miles around. The bar serves soup and sandwich lunches (the sandwiches are fantastic). There is also a restaurant upstairs which serves very good quality food. The second bar is more lively and is where they have live bands and sports TV and is frequented by a younger clientele. Every year in the summer they do a beer festival which is very popular with locals. If not local, well worth the drive for a nice quiet drink or a bite to eat. read more

My wife and another couple visited for a meal on Sat 9th Feb 2013. How disappointing.. We are not fussy people however 2 of the 3 soups were lukewarm and the prawn cocktail was short on prawns. We the had to wait 50 min for our main courses, the Steak & ale pie and Sirloin were as expected, however 8 pieces of Scampi on both other mains was a bit short in my opinion, we declined the sweets. When we ordered a bottle of wine, a Non-Alcoholic Beer and a Pint, we received a GLASS of wine and were told they NO LONGER stock non-alcoholic beer (In this day and age - poor). Eventually the bottle was dumped on the table. No side plates or knives were supplied for the bread with the soup. When we asked for the bill we received the WRONG TABLE...After complaining 25% was taken from the bill. However we were prepared to pay for a meal at the full rate IF the service & food had been up to scrratch.....I believe this establishment has just been taken over by new owners, I would suggest they have al lot of work to do to bring it up to the standard to which they aspire read more
