The restaurant offers a lunchtime deal of two courses for £10. I decided just to order off the menu however, as I didn't fancy the vegetarian option. To start I got the courgette fritters which were very tasty. For the main I plumped for the apple and mushroom stroganoff which was decent pub plain fare but not worth the £8 price tag in my opinion The Fox and Hound was the perfect place for a family lunch. We arrived with two babies in tow which was easily accommodated. My only other complaint is the fact that the restaurant closes between 3 and 5pm, leaving not much time to linger over a cup of tea.

I thought this place closed down as there were no current ratings for 2014. This pub is difficult to find after exiting off the main freeway but our group was able to find it with help from local businesses outside of Glasgow. This building is inviting and warm. Bought a pint of Houston Warlock and 1/2 pint of Killellen reasonably priced at about 3.5 pounds and 1.8 respectively. The flavor of the warlock was too bitter and dark but drinkable. The Killellen tasted as a pale ale should, tart and acidic. The microbrewery is located on the premise and you can purchase a case of beer to go. No shirts or hats for sale. :-). The carpet is unique as the fireplace and lounge area. Families do congregate here as well as the young folks who like to drink beer. The town of Houston is suburban and quiet. Lots of Mercedes and Porsches driving amongst the coaches and economy cars passing by. Hehehe Haven't tried the food but would come back for a pint of Guinness or Warlock.

The wait is worth it though as the food is freshly prepared and delicious. Try the macaroni cheese and be unhealthy and get the chips too - you won't regret it!

The barman (Mick I think he was called) was very helpful in telling us where to visit in the surrounding areas. We went back in at the end of our 10 day visit to Scotland and not only did he remember us, he remembered what we drank. Now THAT is a good pub. That night I tried the Malt of the month it was great value at £3.10 of a large (235ml) of superb malt. Since returning to London I have told many, many friend to visit Largs and The Royal Oak To my mind a 5 star Pub with 5 Star staff.

The staff and customers were welcoming and friendly especially after hearing the American accents. One of the regulars gave up his bar chair so I could sit with my husband without anyone asking. O.K. it is not a "real ale" pub but you get a really warm welcome when you come in and the locals really warm to visitors and do their best to accommodate them. Also, their beers taste great and are always available. Of note, the house dram, is the cheapest in the village. If you come to Lochwinnoch and want to visit a non catering pub, then the Corner Bar is for you.
