The volunteers (the artists themselves) are always friendly and helpful should you need assistance. In the summer it is cool inside and always sparkling clean. Yesterday I bought notecards of painted woodpeckers and felted acorns to use as a photo prop. Note that there is a ramp up to the door facing the street but not the door facing the alley.

Frankly, this museum is much nicer, informative, and engaging than it has any right to be. The very friendly docent on duty welcomed us warmly into the lobby and, after we paid our small admission fee, she took us through everything we needed to know about accessing the audio tour, the basics of the exhibits and I'm sure anything else that we had wanted to know. She was very friendly. The exhibits wind through the building with an early focus on the founding of the town. The major portions of the museum, however, are devoted to the flashier aspects that really shine of this small burg in the Midwest: the circus and laxative waters! Massive exhibits are devoted to the sulfur water that was an early cure-all which gave rise to the large spas that drove tourism to town. The most square footage is devoted to the huge, massive, enormous circus in miniature. My partner is all about miniatures and was totally engrossed in this display. And rightfully so; it is very impressive! Everything was above average for cleanliness, order, and functionality; which, if you've visited other small-town museums, you know isn't always the case. I left having a much greater appreciation for the town and its history!

They have the supplies for a lot of art/craft projects and you simply let them know whether you want to try it then or sign up for something. And if you aren't artistic on your own, there is no pressure to sign up...just browse through the wide range of items. There are paintings, photos, soaps, candles, wood items, jewelry, ceramics, glass items, etc. All items were made by artists in the region and seem to be affordably priced (especially compared to many of the galleries I've been to.) What the shop is interested is in giving the customer an experience, not just selling you an item. They can't out "Amazon" Amazon. But they can provide you a creative experience that Amazon can't. If we had more time, I think my wife and I might have taken a shot at making something. If you are interested, you might contact them ahead of time to get an idea of how to dress and get an idea of how long you should plan for making something or when the classes are. There was even a women working on some fabric art that was super nice to my niece when she asked a bunch of questions. One of my favorite collections was the metal jewelry, tiny pieces sculpted into amazing necklaces, earrings, etc. but sadly those were currently not in my budget. I did purchase some gorgeous blue earrings and my sister in law purchased a bracelet from the same artist. The guy who rang us up said he has told that artist to charge more...well, I guess, but by not doing so, she also got 2 of her pieces sold that day! So who knows how often prices fluctuate.
