The splash pad is sunny though. There's a playground for little ones, one for bigger kids, and across the soccer/baseball fields is the Mann playground for even bigger kids, and is open to all when the school kids aren't at recess. All the playgrounds are on top of rubber, so no wood chips for toddlers to eat! Also nice is a tiny sled hill, good for beginners to figure out what to do and climb up and down in the summer. The bathrooms are usually pretty clean, and have a changing area. They may be closed when playschool is in the field house though. If you are dropping a kid off at an activity at the field house, you can enter the north end of the one-way alley and use one of the two dropoff spots. Be prepared to wait if it's a busy class, as it's a narrow, first-in-first-out kind of alley.

Tip: This park is quite dog friendly :-) In the North East corner of the park stands the Pleasant Home mansion, which is a National Historic Landmark designed in 1897 by architect George W. Maher for John W. Carson. Both the park and mansion are a delight to experience, and the docent-led mansion tour is very interesting. A number of parks in the area have playgrounds for small children, but Mills Park doesn't have one. For me, that's a plus because it makes this place just a bit more peaceful and relaxing. I enjoying visiting to read a book or just to relax. In the evening, this is a nice place to stroll after dining out on Marion Street :-)

My kids are older now, but we used to play here often pre-renovation. They did a beautiful job with the renovation. I come here twice a week to take a Nia dance class through the Park District of Oak Park. The space is perfect for the class. Always clean, well-ventilated, the water fountain works, all of the equipment is in good working order, and the teacher, Andrea, is the best!! Masks are required to come inside, and there is a Park District attendant at the door of the building to ensure that the mask requirement is complied with, which I really appreciate. Stevenson Park is a great place to take a class and a super spot to run around with the kids a bit! There is some free street parking along Lake, but make sure you follow the signs. I think only one side of the road (the south side) is free. I saw someone getting a ticket for parking on the north side of the road yesterday.

The toddler playground with the hot air balloon theme is super cute with lots of imaginative play and gross motor play. The bigger playground down the street is also outstanding with lots of creative structures I've never seen before - also equipped with a structure geared towards toddlers. My 4 year old was easily able to play at/on both playground and all structures. We both thought this spot was awesome. Also cool TRX type equipment for adults to workout!

We take walks here with our dog a lot and he loves running around the wide open space when we are the only ones. My first impression of Veterans Park: Veterans Park is one of those underrated and low foot traffic parks that only a select few know about which is great if you want solitude. Amenities: Both the picnic sitting area and the playground equipment is up-to-date with little to no graffiti (which is a big plus if you are in a major city). If you are a chess/checkers lover there is an area in the park that you can practice your craft. Location: Veterans Park is right across the street from a mini dog park which brings the entertainment factor up a couple notches. The unfortunate part of Veterans Park is that it is in the middle of a random neighborhood which does nothing to increase the foot traffic. Unless you are searching for a local park you may never know Veterans Park is around you. I love the park nonetheless and it's slowly becoming one of my favorite miniature parks to visit.

This is a great local park that is always worth the visit when the weather is warm. It is a wood chip ground with soft rubber landing spots at the bottom of each slide. There are several lengths and types of slides a each park and there are a full set of swings with ones for little kids up to bigger ones. There is a small gazebo in between them and a larger grassy park nearby to play in as well. There is also a tennis and bocce ball court right next to the parks as well with bathrooms and a water fountain. Again an all around great local community park.
