I've stayed here at least 6 times in the last 15 years & the standard of accommodation is 1st rate as are the cooked breakfasts - just the job to set up a day's walking, cycling or driving around this delightful island! Carol & Paul Hallums run The Lodge & go beyond the call of duty to make guests feel welcome & help advise on local events or attractions. Well worth a visit! There's a bus stop close by - Vectis Buses run a reliable service across the island & a week's pass that includes the open-top tour buses costs £20 each with family tickets also available.
Home Farm Bed and Breakfast
I LOVED this place! First off, this bed and breakfast REALLY is in a village--the kind you see in…read morethe movies! Harts Lane is so narrow, my partner hesitated pulling our car into the lane and then really had second thoughts about pulling into the tiny parking area. I was too busy loving everything I could see to care about that! Then, we walked into the bed and breakfast, where an out-of-breath Linda Smith greeted us warmly and apologized for not being ready. We didn't mind. After all, there were TWO pubs in one TINY village! ;) When we returned from our obligatory pub visit, Linda led us upstairs and to our room. Do you know how sometimes places look clean but don't smell clean? This clean room smelled GREAT! Then, I went into the bathroom. It was completely remodeled and very modern. I was in heaven! A quaint, clean bedroom with a clean modern shower! There was even a place for me to sit down in the bedroom and put on my makeup. I decided to use it for sitting down and reading a daily devotional, but just having this wonderful space was a plus. Did I mention there was a fireplace? The next morning, Linda cooked us "whatever we wanted." My partner happily ordered sausage and eggs, and I ordered bacon and eggs. While we waited, I looked around the family dining room. There were wonderful family pictures--Linda and Ian Smith's wedding pictures, their children, etc. My partner meanwhile marveled at his freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the woodwork in the room. Then, the food came. The bacon was the size of 4 American slices stuck together but a lot thicker. Everything was delicious, but after we ate, we felt like we needed a nap! If you go to this area of England, stay here! The Smiths are very congenial people, their accommodations are clean, their food is outstanding, and the village is picturesque. You'll swear you're in a movie.

Defoe House offers just one room in a converted garage in the tiny village of Norleywood. However, as well as the sleeping area (ideal for couples but with a sofa bed if you have kids in tow!) there is a small kitchen, bathroom and dining area. The room has recently been converted, the decor is simple and tasteful and it really does have all the facilities you could require. However, it's the homely touches and special attention paid by owner Vanessa that really makes this place stand out. Freshly picked daffodils on the table, home baked cake on arrival (the most amazing lemon cake, I should add), a selection of DVDs to watch, and the offer of help and guidance when you need it. We were loaned maps for walking, plus offered the use of wellies! Vanessa recommended walking routes and places to visit, local pubs to eat and drink, and even made the reservations on our behalf. Breakfast is served in the room. The full English is great, utilising good quality meat and eggs. Cereals are available, and home made jams to slather on toast. However, if you can't manage the whole caboodle, Vanessa will happily accommodate your desires! At £40pppn, Defoe House is good value. We really had an amazing time here, the only things that may disturb the peace and quiet are the cockerels in the morning and the Needles Lighthouse from the nearby Isle of White when the weather is bad! We will definitely be back on our next visit to the New Forrest.

I can't praise this place enough. Contemporary Regency decor for a sense of grandeur, Molton Brown amenities, heated towel racks, Hypnos luxury bedding, the best Eggs Benedict we had on our trip, organic cereals, a wide selection of premium Tiptree jams and curds, homemade fruit compote, perfectly fried bacon and sausages, gorgeous presentation, full French presses of excellent coffee, attentive service, organic peanut butter, different yogurts, plenty of fruit ... this place was a dream. Every square inch was spotless, and a private car park made it worth the safe and scenic 5-minute downhill walk to the town center. The hospitality was friendly, welcoming, personable, yet also professional. Huzzy and I agreed: we would come back to Bath just to stay here! When I arrived in Bath I was deep into my trip and short on socks. The sock bag in my suitcase had reached critical mass and was going to be a new kind of 'Dirty Bomb'. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful- fresh eggs, great bacon, crunchy and chewy bread (ok so I'm not a food writer). Lots more options than a traditional eggs and bacon breakfast were available. Thanks 139 for a wonderful experience. It's been a couple years since we stayed, but the memory is fresh in my mind.

MARRIOT NO LONGER OWN THIS HOTEL…read more This hotel is a disaster. Checked in no problem. Walked to my room this was the trail of destruction with breakfast tray still in the corridor at 7.30pm. Went to get dinner. Told they had just seated a table of 14 and there would be a very long wait could i order at the bar. Get to the bar to be told starters pizza pasta or salads only. Order chick wings which came with crudites but dirty celery. Report going into environmental health on Monday. Breakfast not available till 8 am. Bacon cold. Hash browns cold everything else barely warm. Again report going into food safety agency on Monday. Avoid the food on site. Decor dated and worn out carpets. In short. A nasty place to stay. Report submitted to Environmental Health as follows The photos taken of the problems I encountered can be downloaded on the following we transfer link https://we.tl/t-bBGYFpvYxt 1 Is a health and safety issue for guests of the hotel 2 Food Safety issues for Guests of the hotel 2 instances Issue 1 - Glasses left in a corridor I checked into the hotel early evening at about 7.30 pm no problem checking in - however when I got to the corridor my room 443 was on - a series of Bar glasses were left in the corridor which fallen on would cause a significant safety risk to the person falling on them - it appeared that they had been there most of the day since housekeeping had been round ? Also left on the corridor was a breakfast tray which has jam marmalade etc. on it which also led me to believe the detritus had been on the corridor for some time Risk - Older guests who could not see the glasses due to poor eye sight could have slipped tripped and fell and had severe lacerations Issue 2 - Evening meal served with dirt on it I went past the bar glasses and dirty dishes and went to the restaurant to be told that they had "just seated 14 guests" and there would be significant delay in serving food I would be best to go to the bar and order there - I did to be told only starters, pizza and pasta available. I order chicken wings with crudités and a mixed meat pizza. The chicken wings arrived but the crudités still had dirt on the celery see photo attached. Risk unwashed / uncleaned salad could infect someone with bad food poisoning Issue 3 - Cold / not well reheated food - meat items breakfast I had paid for breakfast the night before and went down to eat - waited 30 mins for the restaurant to open - 730 am - 8 am. Then helped myself to the breakfast buffet - the bacon served was cold the bacon was folded over the thin bit of the rasher underneath as if it had come out of the fridge and not been warmed through but left under the warming lights , the hash brown potatoes cold, the sausages luke warm, the beans, eggs, mushrooms also luke warm - I think this is contrary to food safety in the UK as all meat should reheated to a specific temperature 75 degrees Celsius? before served? Risk - under heated food could also lead to food poisoning from bacteria.

Afternoon tea at Sandbanks? Hmmm I think, 'no thanks.' Probably not again, anyway…read more I visited the hotel for Afternoon Tea with my sisters to celebrate a birthday. We'd planned on sitting on the terrace overlooking the beautiful coastline, but the rainy weather got the better of us, so we opted for the interior lounge. It was clean and pleasant and cosy, but really no more exciting than your standard hotel communal space. Afternoon Tea is served between 3-6pm. I went up to the bar at 2:45pm to get the attention of the 5 members of staff milling about each other until one came over. I asked it I could place the order now and have it served at 3pm, but I was told I had to wait. Fair enough. I returned again at 3pm where the waitress checked her watch to see I wasn't cheating. In a country where the quintessential tea and cake experience is widely popular - especially in tourist traps - this was an average offering. The metal pots and canteen crockery were average. The scones, cake and sandwich slices were average. There wasn't enough cream and jam to go round. It was all quite heavy with no light accents in the offering of little fruits or macaroons to break up the stodginess that you see in other establishments (apart from a cute little meringue). And it's just shy of £15 for the privilege. The real selling point is the location and this place might have punched a little higher had the weather been better and the service a little less dismissive.
