Tommy did a beautiful job framing an extremely delicate fabric that is hundreds of years old. The customer service was excellent, and he made sure that every need was met in terms of my taste and how the framed art would look with the rest of my apartment. I had some difficulties in deciding which frame would work for a painting I had picked up in Havana, but he took his time and helped me choose the perfect match. I dropped off a huge print (44x60) Monday afternoon, and it was ready for delivery on Thursday. What a great experience. Tom, the owner, was the friendliest and most accommodating shop owner. I picked out a frame for a 16x20 painting for $32. The last frame shop I went to in Manhattan wanted to charge me $170. He said it usually takes him a week to make a new frame but he said he would get that one done for me the next day. If you're looking for great prices, friendliness, and an owner who is willing to bend over backwards to get you what you want, look no further. Amazing place to have prints framed. Everyone there is super helpful and the overall costs is really inexpensive compared to other shops. The only one drawback is their hours and not being open on weekends. It makes it difficult for people whom have full time jobs to get in and discover this jewel. read more

Frame Art NYC is incredible. My partner and I had a living social voucher, so we went in with two pieces: a hand-crafted pillowcase we got in Jerusalem and a 1970s poster we got in Old San Juan. We spoke to the owner, Tommy Hild, and asked for his suggestions. First of all, he is LOVELY. He is super friendly, personable, accommodating, thoughtful, and of course has such an eye for what will make a beautiful framed piece. For the pillowcase, he suggested a shadow-box with several layers of black matting and a decorative gold frame. I was skeptical, but it turned out absolutely incredible. For the 70s poster, he suggested an off-white matting to match the border of the poster and a black frame. He quoted us for totally reasonable prices and told us when they would be ready. The whole time we spoke, he was completely professional, courteous, and charming -- we learned a lot about his career, how he came to open the shop, his recent move to Bushwick, and the work he has done for decades. We came back in to pick them up when they were ready and they turned out so beautiful. We've recommended Frame Art to several other people, one of whom already went and was super pleased with the work. We will continue to recommend Frame Art and Tommy to everyone who will listen. After getting a quote and a few emails back and forth regarding some of the details of the framing, I was ready to deliver work to their shop. I wrote two more emails to say I was ready to drop off the pieces and ask about shop hours (no response) and an additional question about the quote (also no response). No one ever returned my emails. I was surprised as this was a large order for several frames. Finally I called (twice, different days and times) and couldn't get in touch with anyone by phone either...started wondering if this was a legitimate business and didn't end up feeling comfortable taking artwork there. I finally opted to take the pieces elsewhere for framing even though the price was almost $500 more total for framing-at least I had the piece of mind to know that someone would be communicating with me and that the work would be in good hands at a real business. read more

My rave review for Tom Hild the owner of FrameArt is long overdue. I'm a photographer and work in fine art so I need quite a bit of framing. I have been working with Tom for over 10 years and whatever he did it was always high end quality but affordable for an artist. The faming costs can kill. Tom is knowledgeable, as he has many years of experience. When I'm not sure about a treatment he always gives me great advice. My clients and collectors are always impressed my the quality he delivers and if the schedule is tight he goes out of his way to meet the deadline. He's my to go to framer, period. read more

I've had two jobs done at FrameArt, both very simple and neither done well at all. My first job was for one of my photos being framed for a gallery show (I'm a photographer), the print just needed a small trim and framed so that the borders were even on all sides. After picking it up the borders were obviously uneven on all sides and I asked them to redo it. I kept getting all kinds of excuses about how difficult it is to get it even and I kept thinking to myself, that's literally a part of the job. It was kind of baffling, but the owner is also nice and personable, so I let it go. Picking it up the second time, it's still not perfect, but I had to ship the photo off, so unfortunately settling for "good enough" was my only option at this point. Thinking it might have been a fluke I brought another photo in to be framed, this one required no trimming of the print, just a custom made matte and frame. This one was also uncentered and skewed in the frame at the first pickup and had to be done again. Then I heard the same excuses for a second time. When I finally went back it still wasn't quite right, but at this point I made so many trips out there to pick up mediocre jobs, I just wanted to pay and leave. It's a shame because I wanted this to be my go-to spot because the rates are the lowest around. I went based off the many great reviews here, but after digging you'll notice that the bad reviews are really bad and unfortunately that's the experience I had. read more

I just had two paintings framed here and they did a wonderful job. Both Tom, the owner, and Tom, who helped when I called and first came in, were a pleasure to work with. The paintings had been rolled up and haphazardly stored for 25 years, and one of them was quite fragile with the paint cracking at the center where they had been folded. Had a very, very bad experience. I asked them to frame a large 60" x 80" print. They assured me they could do it. When I went to pick it up, they had completely destroyed my print. I was shocked by how bad it looked, and that they hadn't notified of the difficulty they had. This was a complete lack of skill and professionalism. On top of that, 3 weeks later I still haven't received my refund for the botched job and they won't pick up the phone when I call. They are inexpensive, but you get what you pay for, or in this case, even less. read more
