I moved to Paris for a few years in the late 1990s and on my first visit with Dr. Steinmetzer, for some minor complaint, he diagnosed me with coronary artery disease, insisting that I have tests right away to prove it, even though I was in complete denial, saying that I "felt fine." My former internist in the U.S., whom I had seen regularly for the previous 20 years, had totally missed my heart problems. Dr. Steinmetzer treated me medically for three years, then told me it was time for heart surgery. I went back to the U.S. and 10 days later I had an emergency FIVE-ARTERY bypass. Thank you, Dr. Steinmetzer. Ten years later, I was again back in Paris for several weeks' visit, and one day I felt a severe burning ache in my outer calf. Dr. Steinmetzer was available immediately to see me, and diagnosed me as having shingles after listening to my symptoms for only five minutes, although I had no visible skin lesions...yet. To begin with, Dr. Hervé Grosgogeat is a GP with extensive training and an unfailing interest in medicine. His father is one of the top Cardiologists in France and has an office next to Dr. Hervé who took me in, asked what my problem was - took a thorough medical history, then hooked me up to an EKG and discovered shortly that I was in A-Fib. He issued me prescriptions for several medications including an injection of blood thinner that we purchased at nearby pharmacies for a total of $42 (That's right, French Health Card, better and cheaper than ours). He charged me 200 euros for the visit and made an appointment to see his father 3 days hence. I must say that they corrected my heart irregularity and with studied professionalism. At home in L.A., my personal cardiologist was impressed with what they accomplished in so little time - and all without the assistance of nurses, technicians, office staff. Yes, just the Doctor who greets you in the waiting room and brings you back. Five Stars for DR. HERVÉ GROSGOGEAT. He speaks English very well and has a sense of humor.

If your kid is suffering from allergies this doctor is the one you should see in Paris…read more Our pediatrician advised us to see her in order to determine whether our 4-month old baby had an intolerance/allergy to cow's milk proteins after he had a weird reaction to formula. It took some time to get an appointment with her, but once we did she was everything we had hoped for. Not only did she explain very carefully the reasons why we had to take certain tests, the delays between them, she also accompanied us along the over the phone and via email to be sure that we had all of the info and assistance we needed to make a final conclusion about his situation, which thankfully was not an allergy at all! She is also affiliated with the hospital trousseau so she can coordinate a spot there on your behalf if you need to do any tests there, as we did. Even though she's a specialist she still practices very reasonable rates (45E a visit) and has a sign on her door that says that she has the right to lower or waive her fee if she so desired. Can you imagine a doctor in american insist on his or her right to waive a consultation fee?! Just a reminder how exceptional the French health care system is.
