It truly is so magical, romantic, and welcoming, and it immediately felt like the perfect place to begin this next chapter of our lives together. What a cute venue, a hidden gem surrounded by historic buildings and a little train stop. I attended a wedding at Franciscan Gardens, and although admittedly small in size, it comfortably accommodated a group of about 50 guests. This is a wonderful little venue tucked away in San Juan Capistrano. I say 'tucked away' but that's only really in feeling than practicality. It's located in the heart of the city and walking distance from the train station, but you feel so isolated from the outside world that it feels like you're nowhere near it. I really appreciate their ability to do that. (With that said, we did hear the train bell go off once during the night. Hey, you can't win every time). The venue is best built for small weddings. That's because the ceremony area will, most likely also have to be used for the reception area as they do their best to spread tables out enough while also providing a space next to the raised band/DJ corner for a dance floor. They do this by moving everyone in to an empty interior room for a reception hour. While guests are there, the staff gets to work and brings in tables and chairs for dinner. It was a really well oiled machine. They do their best to maximize what space they have while also not making guests feel crammed together. That goes for both the exterior as well as the cocktail hour inside. In all, this was a beautiful venue to celebrate a marriage. If you are looking in the area, I highly recommend it. Location is beautiful because the patio area is decorated by a luxurious green wall made from tall trees. Aside from the greenery, I don't think the venue is worth the price they charge for an event. (I will add that the food was good and portions were perfect) Things I did not like: 1) bathrooms are on the second floor 2) free parking is not far but not near (NOTE there is a paid parking establishment that goes directly to the backside of the venue ) 3) the cleaning crew started to clear decorations during the party. I thought that was rude and unprofessional 4) chairs are not confortable at all 5) our event was Saturday so there was a great deal of noise from the streets and train area SIDE NOTE: if considering this venue make sure you talk to your wedding planner about space, it is my personal opinion that this venue is for smaller gatherings. read more

Recently got married here last month in June! It feels like such a magical place with the tall hedges, it's like its own little pocket away from the world right smack in the middle of San Juan. Despite getting married in the summer heat, the tall hedges actually provide ample shade and our guests all said they felt cool and comfortable. Our guests also all told us they absolutely loved the venue and were floored by it when they initially walked in, as were we when we first saw it and toured it. Anna and Elizabeth were very accommodating during our 7 month planning process. Leading up to the day, they helped us make last minute adjustments and dotted all i's and crossed all t's to help throw a perfect party. The rest of the wait-staff during the dinner were also extremely kind, according to our guest testimonials, so that was very delightful to hear! read more

We hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for the bridal party followed by a Welcome Reception for the next day's wedding guests. The event was fabulous! The outdoor lighting set the perfect mood, and the brick interior walls made a beautiful background for photos. It was a pleasure working with Anna, Elizabeth and Anna. Each was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and facility offerings. They helped me plan a menu that met my budget and a timetable for the two events. Franciscan Gardens is probably the most difficult wedding/ events location I've ever tried to find. Totally unmarked. I went in circles three times until a passerby informed me to park in a public lot and walk. Unbelievable. Seats provided for the event were uncomfortable. Location used for reception was noisy and without chairs! Unbelievable again! Food provided was by 24 Carrots and that was excellent. But this review covers the venue not the food. read more

We just had our wedding here for a total of around 120 guests. Absolutely wonderful. It's a great space that has both an indoor and outdoor option. I love the garden feel of the outdoor space with the fountain and pergola, it really looks like a beautiful villa. The hanging string lights are especially pretty at night. Nasime was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was always available to answer emails or calls even when we had last minute changes. Elizabeth was just as helpful and they really worked well as a team whenever the other was busy with an event or out of office. Our guests had an amazing time and even commented on how beautiful the location was. The food with 24 Carrot is truly top notch. Everyone loved their meals and hors d'œuvres. We were so happy with everything! Overall: Ambience, food, and drink are amazing. This place does cost a pretty penny but ultimately we found the pricing to be worth it for what we wanted. There is a huge benefit to having access to an indoor/outdoor space given that we married in March and the rain this year was so unpredictable. Food was delicious and the service was amazing. All of the bartenders and wait staff were so attentive and friendly. Only downside was that we could only access the venue starting at 10am which didn't leave the bridal party enough time to get ready. Groom and his side were set to use so it worked for them. They did provide a nice bucket of beers in the grooms room so that was a lovely touch. I ended up taking my bridal party next door to Floraison and it worked out much better! The security guard standing there outside in the pm on 11/2/24 sat there staring at me after telling me that I cant load-up my equipment on that street. After he told me to leave i was trying to find a new spot on my phone to load up my equipment at and the entire time he was staring at me as if I was doing something completely wrong. I hope that whoever that guy was gets fired because he made me feel extremely uncomfortable the entire time I was parked there (which was like 5 min as i was looking to find a new spot to load up). When I was asking him why he was staring at me, he was confrontational with me. This guy needs to know how to treat people, I understand that he is a security guard, but there is no reason that he needs to be that way with anyone that wasn't doing anything wrong. read more

Franciscan Gardens is an amazing venue! The setup is absolutely gorgeous with the greenery covering the high walls, the string lighting, the fountain, and the pergola. The food was catered by 24 Carrots and it was extremely delicious. Elizabeth, Anna, Nasime, Nicole were who I worked with and they were very communicative and easy to work with. They are clearly professionals who are experienced in this field. They were very easy to work with and were very kind when I would have to make adjustments. The location is also fabulous. It's on a walkable street so there's bars, restaurants, boutiques, etc. all within walking distance. There's also a parking lot right next to it so your guests can just park there for the wedding (I believe $2/hr or $20 for the whole day). It's a also 30 minute drive to SNA airport, and there's numerous hotels within walking distance or close driving distance - very convenient for guests. It's a very popular wedding venue, so many of the wedding vendors have previously worked with Franciscan Gardens - my vendors were all experienced with the venue and worked seamlessly with one another. It is on a busy street and near the train tracks so just be aware of that. They also just renovated the bridal suite and it is SO gorgeous. It looks amazing for the getting ready photos. In terms of pricing - I feel like it's pretty comparable to other OC venues. I felt that the base pricing is very reasonable, it's more of a matter of how many add-ons and extras you want, that's where it really starts to get pricey. Overall great experience! We got married at Franciscan Gardens on July 20th and couldn't be happier with our experience. The venue, staff, and catering were all phenomenal. Elizabeth and Nasime made the planning process a breeze, always incredibly professional and communicative. Believe what you read about the food - 24Carrots catering truly is the best! The venue was beautiful. However, we didn't have a very good experience. I'm listing five issues from least to worst. 1. The rows during the ceremony were really close together. We only had around 60 people in attendance and the seats were so close together that it looked weird in photos. I noticed it in our walkthrough and was told we'd make the rows further apart, but it didn't happen. 2. Our head server gave bad service. The bride and groom receive a server to get drinks, or whatever we need, so we don't have to leave the sweetheart table. She was super offputting, didn't seem like she wanted to be there, and never asked us what we wanted to drink. Just handed us our Featured drink that I chose for the guests before we had any chance to request something else. 3. The bartender HEAVILY overpoured. I'm not one to complain about a heavy hand but multiple guests said they didn't partake in cocktails because the bartender filled their cups to the rim with alcohol, even after requesting a lighter pour, Which, is disappointing because we paid for an open bar. 4. No one saw a security Guard We were assigned a security guard but neither I nor anyone else saw one. My husband even ran our card box to our car, just for safekeeping, and never saw security. 5. A guest's car was stolen along with multiple things inside the venue. Someone came in, stole my dad's jacket, my mom's shoes, a purse (with car keys inside) along with the car those keys belonged to. There were only 50 guests, so IF there was security, they didn't do a good job. My parents noticed their stuff was missing right away and the cleanup crew didn't allow anyone to enter the venue and check. Luckily the police located the car. All of the things stolen from the venue were in the trunk. So, it was confirmed that whoever stole the items inside the venue also stole the car. The venue doesn't require the bridal/groom suites to be locked or watched, so make sure all valuables are put away. read more

What was not communicated to us was a severe difficulty/lack of communication (I mean Days without a response)... incredibly unfriendly & unhelpful venue coordinators... and SO MANY hidden fees (THERE WAS EVEN A $75 "FUEL SURCHARGE"). I wish that the staff here was as awesome as the venue but unfortunately that just simply isn't the case. They left so much to be desired and on your wedding day, that is not something that you want to have to deal with. As someone who spent upper of $40k... There are so many beautiful, price similar venues in the South Orange County area that will provide high quality customer service with friendly, helpful staff. I would skip it. read more

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most daunting tasks of wedding planning, as it sets the tone for the rest of the event. We toured several venues across Southern California, and knew that we wanted something that was already beautiful, so that we would not have to bring in too much decor. As soon as we saw Franciscan Gardens, we fell in love! It is so beautiful, has indoor and outdoor spaces, and one of the best parts of this venue is that it exclusively only hosts one event per day (unlike hotel ballrooms, where you might have another wedding next door), and you get access to it starting at 10am. Another bonus is that this venue is owned by the 24 carrots catering company- who are one of the best caterers in Southern California! Once we signed our contract and secured our date, everything was very well organized and straightforward. Our POCs at Franciscan Gardens, Elizabeth, Mikala, and Nasime, were very responsive and helped us throughout the process. 24 carrots has a very large and extensive menu, and they helped us narrow down dishes to include in our tasting, and provided several suggestions. One con of the tasting in our included package was that we were only able taste 3 entrées, even though we were willing to pay extra to taste more. It was important to us to have one chicken, one beef, and one vegetarian option, so we ended up tasting 3 and choosing 3- which didn't make it much of a tasting. We got more variety for the appetizers- we tasted 6 and had to choose 4. Since this is a historic venue, it is important to check with the venue before getting external vendors, as they have several restrictions on installs. Our POCs were really good with letting us know about this beforehand, and we did not run into any issues with our vendors here. The day of our wedding was beautiful and everything we hoped for! All our guests raved about the food, stating that it was some of the best food they had had in a long time! Everyone also enjoyed the drinks, and overall we had the best time! This location initially caught my eye due to the "greenery" - be aware that it's much smaller than it looks. I completely regretted booking it as my venue. Location: this is located on a fairly busy street in San Juan Capistrano. The parking garage used to be free after a certain time, but now they charge hourly. Note that if you take photos after, you'll have to walk through lots of crowded areas. Coordinators: Melissa was extremely unpleasant to interact with. A lot of fake smiles via emails when they want something from you ($$$) but not that responsive or helpful otherwise. It honestly soured the entire experience. Kayleigh was pleasant and reassuring via emails and phone calls, but I didn't get to interact with her much. Hannah was also really nice. Venue: you don't get full access to the venue until 10am. When we arrived there was no water, tissue, anything. They had a huge miscommunication with our wedding planner and the dance floor was basically non-existent. Food: this is the ONLY redeeming value of this venue. I enjoyed the food at the tasting and all the waitstaff were friendly. read more

My husband and I got married at Franciscan Gardens on 5/6/23 and it was truly the best day of our lives! From the moment we inquired with the venue, through all of the planning, execution and clean up of the wedding day, we had an amazing experience working with the team, especially Nasime and Elizabeth! They were always quick to respond to our questions and their expertise was so helpful in our planning. We loved how private the venue feels when you are inside the courtyard, without being in an isolated location. They are great hotels and restaurants nearby which our guests enjoyed throughout the weekend and just a short walk from the Mission which is the most stunning location for photos! The food, bar and staffing is all handled by 24 Carrots and everything was great! The food was delicious, the drinks tasted great and the staff who worked our event were so friendly. This is a really nice venue. My daughter was married here over memorial day weekend. Even though we did have a little bit of rain the venue was still beautiful outside. This is a wonderful place to get married and entertain your guests. We had roughly 150 people. On the inside they have bride quarters as well as grooms quarters and a really big open space where you can have your reception or dancing or cocktail hour. You can't go wrong with this facility if this is where you chose to get married. read more

My wife, Lauren, and I were married at Franciscan Gardens in April 2022 and we truly had the best day ever. The venue itself is beautiful and welcoming - FG has a simple elegance with so much natural character - and the town of San Juan Capistrano is as charming as they come, with everything you (and your guests) need right in town (not to mention some of Southern California's most stunning oceanside views mere minutes away). From our initial walk-through to the months of planning to the day-of-wedding, it was always evident that FG's experienced staff had done this hundreds of times; everyone was extraordinarily professional and kind. 24 Carrots food was delicious and everything ran like clockwork (special thanks to Rachel Salas from Joy n Company for all of her coordinating as well). Moreover, everything felt fairly priced; a venue like this might not be cheap, per se, but we didn't feel as if we were ever being ripped off or up-charged. There were certainly a lot of fees that could add up quickly, but everyone we spoke with was transparent and worked with us to help find the best option for our budget. We had our wedding here October 2020. The bar staff and waiters/waitresses were extremely nice and friendly! We were uncertain how they would be considering the whole pandemic situation. Administrative staff we were working with prior to the actual wedding day was ok- communication could have been stronger and more assuring (however I understand the pandemic threw everyone off their game) - Kayleigh was top notch for sure! Service day of our wedding was awesome (from a brides point of view). The only thing that was brought up was the cake serving - the servers only provided cake to those who were sitting down during the reception so it was hard from some of our guests who were dancing to then come back to their table and flag people down for a slice of cake. Some guests received 3 slices while other guests were struggling to get 1. That was the only feedback we got that was a critique! My picky family loved the "taste of Italy" package we selected - and to be honest - I only had a few bites but it tasted even better than when we did our tasting months prior! I am so happy the food met my family's high standards ... cause I mean come on ... wedding food isn't always all that great. Overall I am happy we chose this venue. There was a lot of anxiety as we picked a date during covid 19 1 year prior - but to be honest I think we were extremely happy because of all the vendors we selected that made our day of go by so much smoother - had we not picked such a great month of coordinator (brickandbelleevents) the outcome of this review might have been different. Since we are from the Bay Area finding SoCal Vendors we could trust abs easily communicate with was a challenge. Franciscan Gardens created an experience far beyond our hopes and dreams for our wedding. We were so excited that we could have our wedding at this venue based on its beauty, location, and charm. The 24Carrots team (shout out to Nasime and Elizabeth!) were incredible to work with throughout the entire process. Leading up to our wedding, the team was super responsive and quite accommodating with our requests for our special day. They helped walk us through various costs to help figure out what worked with our budget as well as providing us some great vendor referrals. The food from 24Carrots is a selling point alone, we had a great time with our tasting experience, but we had so many people comment on how great the food was, from appetizers to the main courses. The venue also had so many great options with décor and upgrades for dinnerware. But the day of is when the Franciscan really shined. We had to make some last-minute accommodations which they were more than willing to help with, and they operated so smoothly with our coordinators that my wife and I were able to be present throughout the night, even to the point of having appetizers put aside for us, drinks on standby, and dinner set aside for us so we could eat. My wife really didn't know what to expect going into the day, but the Franciscan Gardens exceeded our hopes and dreams, creating a magical evening that my wife and I are so grateful to look back on. Also, a huge thank you to the incredible serving staff that evening, who were all so happy for my wife and me, and so gracious and accommodating with our guests! The only note is that the rooms for the bridal party to get ready in are small and don't have windows, which isn't great for photos, so we had alternative places to get ready in (Nasime was able to provide some recommendations). read more

Thanks to an invite to a good friend's wedding, I got the opportunity to check out this wonderful venue. It feels like you're in your own private garden. Walls lined with shrubbery 50ft+ high. Already pre-decorated with string lights and flowers all around as one of the guests said "it looks like it came straight from Pintrest!" Could not put it better myself. Private bridal suite with seating area, large sectioned off vanity for the bride and 2 vanities in the main area for bridesmaids and mothers to prep. A beautiful hidden garden in the middle of San Juan Capistrano! We had our wedding here about a month ago & it was an absolute dream. The venue was the perfect setting for our big day & had a very enchanted cozy feel throughout the evening. Elizabeth & Mikala were such a pleasure to work with throughout our planning process & made everything so stress free. They answered our millions of questions in a timely fashion & gave great tips. We came here for one of my best friend's weddings and it was great - from start to finish. If you have not been here before, it can be a little bit of a challenge trying to find it. Parking on the weekends can also be a challenge, so arrive early to beat those issues. The venue itself is cozily nestled in the middle of downtown and provides a ton of privacy. The staff were also very attentive and helpful the entire night. I'm not sure what my buddy and his wife purchased or what came standard, but this was a great wedding. The food was some of the best I've had in terms of quality and portion size. The venue also brought out appetizers and desserts throughout the night to make sure people were feeling right at home.
