I attended a service recently, and felt it was devoted to the family of the man who died. His children and grandchildren spoke so lovingly of him. Apparently it's not a cheap place for funeral planning but I went to a wake here that had food and was very well run. The staff was good about giving you direction to get to your proper wake and I was able to store my coat when I came in. The facility itself is also tastefully decorated and felt very respectful of people coming in to pay their respects or families dealing with the loss of their loved one. No complaints from my end though I was here for my friend's father who was a doctor and apparently the one responsible for creating the 911 system in NYC (something we take for granted these days so most definitely a task worthy of praise). read more

A friend of mine passed away in New York, so in assisting with various arrangements I ended up dealing with Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel. Let me tell you this is the most top notch total class act of a funeral home that I have ever dealt with. First off, everyone who works he is top notch professional as well as being the most accommodating that I've ever had the pleasure of coming across. They really do everything for you. Just in ordering flowers, I found that they, through their concierge, can not only give you good advice, but arrange everything for you. Hence you have no problem in securing proper floral tributes along with their delivery and display. Then, to top all that off, they will make all the hotel arrangements for out of town guests as well as taking care of all of the catering needs assuring a proper post funeral reception. So, when they say they will "...care to your every need..." you can take their word for it, they will. But, as you might guess, all of this doesn't come on the cheap. The prices can be staggering, but you will get the very best in every way and with every detail. read more

If you are reading this, first off, I'm so sorry for your loss and that you even need to read these reviews right now. It's so tough, and the reason I'm writing this is no funeral home should make it tougher - I do not wish that upon anyone grieving. I would not recommend this funeral home, as I had a bad experience. Three main reasons why: 1. The person who my family and I met with lacked empathy for our situation. When we arrived he didn't do introductions, so he addressed the wrong person in the room, and we had to stop and correct him, and introduce ourselves. Then within 5-10 minutes, without warning, he picked up a catalog and flipped to an example of a random urn for purchase. We were so taken aback. I had to ask him to leave the room because I could feel the entire room shift, my family & I were so upset and not ready for it and all he had to do is ask us if we were ready, and take a beat, but instead he jumped into sell mode and came off like a salesman. 2. It might sound like a small thing, but as someone who went through sudden loss, the "hold music" which was more of an advertisement for all of their services, was too much for me and made the moment of calling this place worse. It is so bad it felt like a parody or SNL skit, however it was not. 3. Out of the blue, a few weeks later, the funeral home texted me to ask me to take a feedback survey. It is such a hard time to receive any communication, especially text, and it was a violation that triggered me. They hadn't even sent me electronic versions of the contracts I signed, only hard copy paper versions, and yet they texted me. It wasn't something I knew to ask them not to do, nor do I think it is something that I should need to specify to a company that works in this space. Before writing this review, I did give this feedback directly to a manager as well, however, he was unable to understand my complaint and concerns, or address them in a way that made me feel heard, understood or empathized with. His first response was "I'm sorry the text came to you at a bad time." To which I said, it's all a bad time, I lost the person I loved most, how are you placing this back on me. To which he said, "some people like filling out the survey." They work with grievers. They profit off them. They should know this. They should be trained to know this. Because early grief is hard and sad and complicated and many other horrible things, and no funeral home should be adding to that feeling, beyond performing the service they are paid to perform in a respectful way. read more

Our mom passed away exactly two months ago this Mother's Day. She was a feisty 99 year old who lived a wonderful life filled with family who loved her, lots of friends, loved to travel and dine out and especially loved to cruise! When she passed, we were heartbroken and decided to give her the send off she deserved and chose Frank E. Campbell. They were professional, courteous and respectful at a extremely difficult time. Mr. Patrick S. McCoy, the Primary Arranger, kept us abreast of everything through phone calls and emails which was very helpful during the planning process. On more than one occasion he alluded to the fact they were the funeral home to the rich and famous and even dropped a few celebrities names. Mom loved pink so we decided to order shades of pink roses surrounding her urn, candlelights framing the urn and 6 vases of long stemmed roses for the room. After a conversation about where to purchase the flower arrangements, we were again reminded about their "specialists" who would do an outstanding job. I caved in and the room was beautifully decorated. On our way to the cemetery the gentleman who would lead the processional asked if we we wanted to take any of the flowers home since there were 6 dozen of them. What better way to remember our mother? Yes, we would each take one! Apparently the rich and famous do not take flowers home as you will see by the attached. The "long stemmed roses" were in fact cut up into less than 4/5 inches and camouflaged by large green leaves to make them appear long. They wilted in less than 24 hours! When I called to express my disappointment, Mr. McCoy asked if he could replace them! That was adding insult to injury, salt to an already deep wound. So, Buyer Beware! On November 17th, 2022 we had a beautiful Memorial for my Mother for over 250 people at Frank E. Campbell Chapel followed by a reception for over 150 people on the 4th floor. James, the funeral director, did a magnificent job in taking care of every detail from making sure the programs were printed and the slides were on display during the Memorial and the reception. James also helped us find the caterer for the reception. Was it quite expensive: yes. Was it worth every penny: yes. If you have the need for a large number of people and looking for a quality venue, Frank E. Campbell should be worthy of your consideration. read more

Came in almost 3 years ago to make arrangements for a sick relative who honestly was too ill to come themselves as they were on hospice. I was impressed with the facility. Very Old Hollywood glamour. My one star review was for the funeral director that I dealt with. I can't recall his name since it's been a while...Jason? John? Honestly, it was something with the letter "J". He was so consumed with himself telling me "how long he has been in the business, how many families ask for him personally", etc etc. I went to talk about arranging a funeral, not to hear his resume. He honestly turned me off so bad, I wound up spending $50K elsewhere and from start to finish, everything was perfect...for a funeral. I hope for this establishment, they got rid of him and his poor repoire with people. Especially those who are in fragile states. read more

First class all around! Go out in style!!Beautiful 4 floor historic funeral home in the East Side in NYC. A friend of mine, Father in law was laid out in the Presidential Suite. Comfortable couches and antique furnishings, even some delicious light refreshments served! This funeral home is well known, especially that it has an impressive list of famous people and celebrities, all of whom have had their viewings here. A major renovation is starting in 2020 floor by floor and a 5th floor is being added with a first class restaurant. I just hope they don't lose the old charm. I attended a funeral held in the large space. Either side of the coffin high above were these really very large screens with their phony coat of arms logo. This may be my weirdest Yelp review to date. But long story short, if I were incredibly disgustingly beyond extremely rich I would like to have my funeral wake in a place like this too. Fancy doormen in little suits help you to the elevators. Very very friendly staff. Very old timey classic Upper East side. Hard wood furniture, chandeliers, and paintings of stallions, dogs, and big men with guns. I like it. The rooms are very plush and elegant though a little bit stuffy. I enjoyed their breathe mints and the hospitality. read more

It cost us more than $11,000 to arrange for a simple cremation here! If you are a wealthy person and cost is no object, then go for it. I would hate to think what the cost would be for a funeral with an actual casket rather than the simple pine box ($1,000) required for cremation. Not only that, but when we arrived at the funeral home to discuss arrangements and at that point discovered what the cost would be, there was not a hint of willingness to discuss the price of the cremation. This formerly independent, family run business has been bought out by a corporate owner and its employees are not free to be flexible on pricing. When we found out what the costs would be it was too late, as these guys would have charged $9300 just to have our beloved mother's body moved to another facility. read more

Experiencing the loss of a loved one is usually unbearable to almost anyone. The most important part is to surround yourself with people who are there to support you. This past Monday was my second visit at Frank E Campbell. The staff are wonderful. They almost seem like they are a part of your family and they speak to you in a very calm voice when directing you to the room of the wake. Everyone is accommodating, friendly, and compassionate. They do everything with attention to detail and tradition, and all caskets are carried out by professional pall bearers. They serve Jewish populations, as well, and are the premier funeral home for Temple Emanu El, and they are also serviced by the preeminent Chevra Kadisha Taharath Jacob Isaac, and they have shomrim and metaherim on call. Stately & well-appointed viewing rooms with comfortable and plentiful seating. Staff is gregarious & well-mannered. Others may complain of the cost, but there isn't much of a substitute for such a refined palette. Quietly situated on Madison Ave. with a doorman out front, this is the place I hope they take me when I die.
