Transaction was smooth and easy, the people at the credit union were professional and knew how to do their job

Yelp works well with the same length and tone as Facebook -- informational, skimmable, not theatrical. Here's the Yelp version: Avoid financing through Frankenmuth Credit Union. I financed a car through FCU in 2019 with GAP insurance. The car was totaled. GAP should have cleared the balance, but I was told I still owed around $5,000. FCU then discovered they had been applying my payments to interest only, with nothing going to principal for an extended period. The fix was a $50 bi-weekly auto-pay, a loan extension to make it possible, and a letter to the credit bureaus to undo the damage their error caused. That extension exists only because of their mistake -- a standard loan on this car would have been paid off by 2024. Auto-pay ran for years. In August I changed banks and forgot to update my info with FCU, causing payments to fail from August through December. FCU reached me in December. I provided the new banking information and auto-pay resumed. On that call they did not tell me the account was delinquent, did not tell me that resuming auto-pay alone wouldn't bring me current, and did not mention a catch-up payment. I left believing the matter was handled. Months later I got a call saying I was about $80 delinquent. I authorized the full balance to close the loan. They withdrew less than I authorized and placed the remainder into a savings account I didn't know I had. A manager refused to correct the credit reporting. FCU's position is that I should have been monitoring statements on a paid-down remedy loan with a bank I don't actively use. The simpler issue: during the December call they had full visibility into the account, knew resuming auto-pay alone wouldn't bring me current, and didn't say so. One sentence would have prevented the credit damage. Two servicing errors on the same small loan. Think carefully before financing here. read more

My mother recently passed away after a 3 week hospitalization in critical care. My mother had a Trust made in 2022. I was her POA and am her Trustee. When my mother passed, as her POA and Trustee, it was my responsibility to pay her bills and final expenses. When her debit card would not go through at the funeral home, I went into the branch office to retrieve $1,000 in cash, which was the balance I did not have from another bank to cover the last portion. The teller reviewed the Trust paperwork and my ID, (as she should have) and released the funds to me. The following week, I went in to close the account as it was our desire to consolidate everything to one account for ease of paying bills. They refused to close the account without an "Updated Certificate of Trust" (remember, the Trust was just made in 2022). I asked for someone from management to call me. The next day, "Lisa" from "upper management" called and not only demanded the "Updated Certificate of Trust" but SCOLDED me for withdrawing $1,000 to help pay for my mothers final expenses. I asked her if she had read the Trust paperwork stating that as her Trustee, it was my responsibility to cover her final expenses from her accounts before anything else was to be considered? She stated, rather mockingly: "It doesn't matter! Your Trust doesn't override OUR BANK RULES!" She then insisted at least 3 times that "It is the LAW" that I must provide an "Updated Certificate of Trust" and it wouldn't matter if the trust had been formed last month - "It's the Law!" I told her the attorney that had done the Trust had passed away - She said I would have to go to a different one... To appease her, I paid a local attorney $350 to provide an "Updated Certificate of Trust," but after paying, and while waiting for the certificate, I sent a message to her asking that she provide a copy of "THE LAW" (presumably Michigan State law... I couldn't find it?) Low and behold! The next day she called and said the legal team had "decided to make an exception, and will close the account without the updated certificate." Huh... funny that I couldn't find "the law" and then she offered an exception to the law... I am guessing there WAS NO LAW. Lisa was lying. Too bad I had already paid an attorney to do it. Now, I can say firmly that I will NEVER do business with Frankenmuth Credit Union, nor would I recommend them. Frankly, I feel like they owe my mother's Trust $350 for lying... IF YOU HAVE A TRUST, CHOOSE ELGA - They were the ONLY bank that handled my mother's Trust correctly and professionally. read more

Been with them for 6 years, get a call today saying I'm late on a payment. Call them and ask them how this is possible since everything is set up on ACH. Turns out they had to change ach companies on short notice. So instead of emailing me and letting me know they just gave me a late payment that they are going to wave because its their mistake and done so I'd call to okay the change. Very shady for institution that is handling hundreds of thousands of dollars for me. It may be time to move on as that is not ethical in my mind. read more

First of all this Bank charges you for everything. Even transferring between credit unions. They also require verification before transferring between Banks even when you have the routing number. They then removed this bank after a month. I will be closing my account shortly. This is after filling out gobs of paperwork just to become a member. It is insane. Go somewhere else. read more

They don't connect with Finicity, so connecting this account to anything is a total pain. I've had to spend hours on the phone with their employees who don't know the answers to anything. Don't bank here if you have a choice. read more

We have been banking with FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION for decades. We decided to get our CHILD an account with them after getting her first job. Well, as any parent knows, you have to be on the account with your CHILD. Frankenmuth Credit Union allowed a creditor to place a hold on our CHILD'S EARNINGS. If Frankenmuth Credit Union would have looked into the account, they would have noticed it was from our CHILD'S EMPLOYMENT. It has been nearly 2 months and our CHILD still doesn't have access to her money even though the court has completed their part. Even the Judge was confused as to why FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION did not catch this. Because FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION could have told them it was an CHILD'S ACCOUNT, with a parent as an overseer. FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION told my daughter to prove it was her money, even though her checks were being direct deposit into her account. Heather stated it was not enough to show ownership of the funds. We had to show her date of employment letter in order for them to say it was her money. However, FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION had already placed the hold. And she is still waiting. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION for your CHILD OR GRANDCHILDREN, because clearly FRANKENMUTH CREDIT UNION will not protect their funds. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I don't know how they are even a bank. This bank took my electronic signature and made "corrections to my account" with my initials, without my permission. Currently in court over this. It is illegal to change a contract, regardless of if you have the persons electronic signature, without notification. Im just a cosigner and they are coming after me and not the initial borrower who has a job. Stay far far away from this bank. Their attorney is also a joke. Told me she was able to do whatever she wanted too. Stated she could "fix" her paperwork faster than a judge can sign it. Ok then. We will see what the attorney generals office finds when a full audit of all her legal cases is done. Lisa and Michelle are the ones at the bank that lied straight to me about everything with this account. Run away from this bank and fast. read more

not sure what branch I have my loan with but frankenmuth credit union is corrupt and shady ,,, one day I made a mistake payment of $0.00 then two days later they made the decision to not contact me to make sure that I was aware of this mistake I have made , so they took it in their own hands without my permission or a court order and made a transaction of a little over $1500 out of my personal account and another $60 in the same day ,,, I found out when trying to use my debit card I was declined so I saw what had happened I contacted them they instantly gave me the money back but I was left with cancellation fees and overdraft fees they are refusing to answer why that happened and who in their department made that decision without any kind of permission or court order , now the manager Tony something was trying to tell me that I Initiated them to do so but that was a lie I sent them proof of that transaction from their own website and now they are refusing to contact me Ive had no apologies No answers to my questions now I'm hoping to let anyone know that Frankenmuth credit union is a shady corrupt business that don't deserve anyone's business read more
