It's owned by Hall & Woodhouse and is well-maintained inside. There's a large bar, a fair amount of seating and a small section dedicated to dining. The bar has a wide range of beers on tap, quite a good wine selection, the usual standard spirits and soft drinks. I've not eaten there, but I'm told that the food is "good decent pub grub". There's plenty of seating outside for the summer months.

The pub's split into two sections, although only the right-hand section was open when we visited. Inside there's a small bar, a good spattering of seats and a little fireplace. The bar had four guest beers on the blackboard, suggesting a changing variety over the weeks. The menu was well laid-out, with dishes separated by price rather than category. The food was well presented and tasty. I had the burger (juicy and delicious) which came with a mountain of fries. No complaints at all really. Cosy pub, good beer, friendly service, decent value, tasty grub.

England was in a World Cup consolation match against Costa Rica. Not a huge crowd but it seemed to have more energy and people than a pub right next door. Ordering was a bit tough initially to figure out... but I went up to the bar and ordered both food and our drinks. It was a bit loud with the game on that it made it hard to hear what the bartender was asking me. That said, we both had fish and chips and I had an India Pale Ale that is made in-house. Everything was excellent! My favorite part was when Goose, one of the bartenders, came to our table to ask how the food was and we got into a great conversation about British ales. Who knows... we might go back again tonight when he opens up a keg of Abbott's Ale...
