She developed a small bubble in her gum a couple months later, an abscess that was more of a nuisance than painful & didn't really think much of it so she rinsed it out with salt water every night after brushing. At her next check-up, that same dental practice said the abscess was a result of the root canal not working. They suggested she see an oral surgeon which they referred us to & have the tooth removed (it is a baby tooth). I went to get a second & third opinion and turned out Venneri also missed another obvious cavity in her mouth. We continued to go there (big mistake!) but this time Dr. Doreen started the process on another tooth with a cavity and said she probably needed another pulpotomy so she "cleaned" it out. As I was asking my daughter "Hey____, are you ok?" Dr. Doreen got out of her chair into my face (I was standing in the doorframe of the room) & said to me "I DON'T WANT YOU TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER. I WANT HER TO TRUST ME!". Turned out this caused an abscess as well! In addition, I was also told multiple times that these procedures would be 100% covered and they continue to send me a bill! I have never experienced such unprofessionalism & rudeness & we will surely not be coming back! *I should have trusted my gut feeling, when this same office performed a routine cleaning on me and when my insurance bill came charged me as a "debridement" which was very costly! I had to dispute this charge because it was only supposed to be a check-up and routine cleaning! They eventually removed the charge.

I went and the dental hygienist was great, then Dr Patel came in and we talked about the issue With was having. He suggested 2 caps as a preventative measure so I took his advice and chose to proceed. However, he did not do the work. Someone else did the caps and they were never right. I wen back 4 times for them to be corrected and asked for one in particular to be redone as the insider of my mouth kept getting chewed up every time I ate. They were reluctant to do that and after a small adjustment asked me to try again. I decided not to further be put off as they had no intention of starting the process over. And, by the way, the cap wouldn't stay on even after being glued on twice. Well, it fell off the 3rd time and it was a relief to just have it out of my mouth. However, I needed a cap so I went to a new dentist and asked him to redo this shoddy work. The post had to be rebuilt and a new cap put on. This cost me $975.00 out and f my pocket which is more than I got on SS each month. Live and learn. I just want to save someone else this pain and expense.

I had to return to get the material refilled and it cost three extra weeks. The skill of filling was bad, I turned to another dentist who later found that my previous filling at Dr. DeSpirito was loose and about to fall apart. Due to the delay I had to have a root canal treatment instead since it has been hurting even after the second treatment. Not only the treatment was bad, but they also kept me waiting for a long time and did not have any patient care. No space for asking question, not even asked about the condition of the previous filling which was actually hurt. I regret trusting him since my trust caused extra treatment and cost.

What drove me…read moreaway was that during the height of early Covid, when it was advised by professionals not to visit dentists except in emergencies, they continued to let my insurance plan run out. The thing was, in my first year that I had the plan they were very communicative - constant texts, phone calls, and emails - asking me to come in for visits. I was out of the country for several months and wasn't able to get there, but I did take note of their exuberance to get me into their office. The plan autorenewed while I was away and then Covid hit. In my second year of the insurance plan, which is/was Kleer Dental Insurance, I didn't have any visits to their office at all. But the interesting thing was that they never reached out at all - no calls, no emails, no texts - trying to get me in for visits. So I assumed that, added to the news and what the medical advisory was at the time, that either their office was temporarily closed or, at the very least, they had suspended the Kleer Insurance from running out during the pandemic. When I finally called for an appointment after it was considered safe, they mentioned my Kleer Insurance plan was nearly expired. When I inquired if they had not suspended it from running due to Covid, the assistant on the phone got very short tempered with me and said as they had been open the entire time that they hadn't suspended the insurance period and would not give me any extension. I made certain to tell them not to autorenew my plan as I would no longer be going there. The woman on the phone said, "That's fine," in a very short manner and hung up the phone. I spoke with a representative from Kleer after that who mentioned they had told all the dentist offices who use that insurance that they were fine with any extensions to the plan period due to Covid, and were sorry to hear that Smile Exchange decided not to honor that and extend it at all. While I know Covid was tough for many businesses, this was just an extremely nasty and underhanded business practice. I had been a good patient throughout my first year there and received zero treatment or use of my plan in the second year due to the pandemic, yet they refused to extend my plan by even two months even though Kleer insurance would have allowed it. A shame really cuz they lost a good customer that day.
