I've wanted to give this a couple days to pass because emotions since Bernie's passing have been pretty raw for us and I wanted to write this with a clear head. I've been a loyal customer with Franklin Animal Clinic (Franklin, PA) for decades. I enjoy the vets, I've had minimal problems, and care was mostly on-par with expectations. When my Saint Bernard, Bernie, was in the midst of failing this week, a call was made to alert them that Bernie was on his way, was in severe pain, unable to walk, difficulty breathing, really struggling, and we needed to see someone immediately. We had an arrival time of 12:40 pm however, we were told that they were "closed for lunch until 1:00 pm" and even worse, they couldn't see him until 1:40. Now, I don't know about you but what has happened to compassion and sensitivity in this world? You have a dying dog in your parking lot and the response is "Wait until our lunch is over?" Bernie died in the back of my vehicle in their parking lot that day. He never made it in to see a vet for either a diagnosis or to be humanly euthanized. I'm a huge advocate of promoting local business but for this to happen, I'm disheartened. I'm going to turn commenting off on this post because this is strictly for informational purposes. I wanted to put this out there for you to form your own opinion on this facility based on this experience. Our pets are so important to us and to know that my Bernie died in the parking lot waiting for a vet is unacceptable. I'm heartbroken it ended like this but, at minimum, I'm glad Bernie was surrounded by his family, getting belly scratches as he took his last breath. read more

The Franklin Animal Clinic as a veterinarian practice is good. But Dr Jennifer Fox misdiagnosed my cat and wanted to treat him and all my other cats with a medication for parasites because of the diarrhea he was having. She mentioned we could do a thyroid panel because of the weight loss if I wanted to. But the diarrhea was the main issue and treating him and the other pets in the family was a starting option. I declined the deworming medication treatment option for all of the cats. I insisted on doing a thyroid panel specifically on the cat I brought in for the chief complaint of weight loss. His TT4 thyroid panel should have been under 4.7. His panel was 15.2 ! Almost three times what it should have been. Surprise ! His thyroid was majorly out of sync. So had I taken him home with the deworming medication and treated all my cats for parasites only because of the diarrhea symptom as she suggested, I question what would have happened to my cat ????. The thyroid would still have been a major health issue for my cat! I had to be bold and brazen and insistent that we treat the thyroid problem first and foremost. On the follow up visit we can see if the diarrhea is still a problem for him and treat it accordingly. I now have medication for my cat because of his terribly out of wack thyroid. Needless to say the follow up will be another veterinarian. It is hard to trust an animal doctor that is not willing to treat the true problem but only wanting to treat a symptom and not look further. Surprised that she was unwilling to look further than the one problem and not to the more serious true health problem. S J H read more

Happy trails closed and we were forced to change VETS. Despite mixed reports we decided to try Franklin Animal Clinic. Google speen tumor and then consider we are talking about a lab with collapse. The doctor mentioned it could be something serious but recommended just watching him. Death followed in three days. Another doctor cut into a lymph node thinking it was a fat tumor. Said she did not know there was a lymph node under the arm?? Another doctor would not come in at 8:30pm to stop bleeding from a post op incision!! The on-call doctor told the answering service not to page her about bleeding. She would not even let us know she was not returning to the clinic and advise on other options. Please do not trust these people with your pet!! They are poorly trained, poorly manored, and will not assist in emergent situations. read more

Our little dog went down hill rapidly the last few weeks of her life. When my wife and I knew the time had arrived, we called our vet of 10 years. They had no time for us. Then I called the good folks at the Franklin Animal Clinic, of whom a dear friend always spoke highly. Not knowing me from adam, they made an appointment for that day. Their kind staff and gestures of concern before, during and after the fact made an excruciating day survivable. I intend to commend the ongoing health and care of my pets to them henceforth. read more

The staff here are so friendly and kind. I take both our dogs there and they just love it, which is saying something for a doggie doctor. The staff are kind and love our animals as much as we do. It isn't the cheapest place around, but not wildly expensive either. You get what you pay for. The knowledgeable staff will recommend tests or medications but don't pressure you to buy things you don't need. I have recommended them to friends and family and everyone has been thrilled with them. read more

We were fortunate to have had an amazing vet before we moved to PA, and we selected this place to take our dogs to. My experiences with the doctors and techs have been largely positive, and they were very good when it came time to let our dogs pass on. I have nothing but good things to say about my personal experiences and interactions with with them. I had one bad experience when we had to euthanize our dog who had gotten very sick. It is hard enough to go through this, but when we arrived, the room wasn't ready and I had to wait 20 minutes, which I was not emotionally in a state to do under the circumstances. When you have to euthanize your pet, you deserve to have everything ready for you so you can say your goodbyes and not prolong an already difficult time. Some of the receptionists also don't seem particularly personable, which is a shame because they are the first impression you get of a business. The first year we took our dogs there, I almost considered finding a new place to take our dogs for this reason, but thankfully the medical staff turned out to be very good. read more

Dr. Doverspike and the staff are amazing. They treat your fur babies like you would. I've been taking my pets there for a few years now after I had lets say not the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment of several of my pets. I transferred all the pets to Franklin Animal Clinic and have no regrets. Presently my oldest dog is receiving chemotherapy for Lymphoma and to look at him you would never guess he has cancer. I would highly recommend this doctor and clinic to all that have fur babies. read more

We needed an emergency appointment and our vet wasn't available (grrr). We knew our dog was sick, our vet did a bunch of expensive bloodwork. The had to send the bloodwork away, so that took 5 days. We had to call them and they said she was fine. A few days went by and she still wasn't eating. I called Franklin Animal Clinic and left a message. They got back to me within 10 minutes and got me in later that day. They did blood work, was able to process it there, and I got the results within the hour. They found cancer. Dr. Hoover was extremely patient and answered all my questions and discussed options. The next week we had to put her down. I called and they took us right away. The Dr. that did it was so kind and compassionate. read more

I took my kitten here that had diarrhea, and ear mites. The "fill-in vet" took her and did a fecal and ear swab, that's it. The exam was over $100.00, which doesn't matter, but this vet should have at least provided some type of relief for this little girl, like drops for the ear mites and something for her diarrhea for a 4-6 week old kitten. I came out of there with two packets of Revolution and a kitten that is sicker today than she was when I brought her in. No thank you. read more

I wrote a review. If you could call it that. But it was a horrid example of how I used the internet for revenge yes revenge. Did I just jump in the car go to the vets voice my concerns. Ohhhh NOOO I went online with a menial situation blew it way out of proportion . Because this was revenge I gotta make it look good. Gotta have that pity. It was easy to write my paragraph of verbal vomit ( yeah that is what it was). I was not looking at a face just a keyboard and a screen. And of course that way it is one sided and all about me me me. It is easy to be kind takes absolutely no effort. To be mean spirited takes lots of effort lots. Something at my age I should have learned by now. Too shameful to go to vets and apologize in person. Awesome vet clinic! Great with my dogs. Very professional and run on time . I had to call in twice for emergency after hours and they called right back. Several doctors there and I like them all. Staff is friendly and helpful and clinic is very clean. They truly love animals! read more

My friends and I have only the best things to say about the Franklin Animal Clinic. Our pets love Dr. Hoover. You can tell that he cares, not only about our pets, but about us too, We have been going to the Franklin Animal Clinic for years and recommend them to everyone. I saw a bad review on this website about this clinic and can't believe it. There must be more to this than we know. I WISH MY DOCTOR TREATED ME AS WELL AS THIS CLINIC TREATS MY PETS! read more

I also had bad experiences with Franklin Animal Clinic. The one doctor screwed up my cats declawing and 10 years later he still has issues with the one paw. A few years ago the same cat developed a stomach problem in which he was constantly vomitting. The doctor suggested that I try different foods until I find one that does not irritate his system. She said I could go through 30+ brands before finding the right one! I took the cat back to Franklin Animal Clinic, but saw a different doctor. He took a blood sample and determined that he has gastro intestinal issues that require a cortizone shot now and then. After one shot he stopped vomitting. Much easier than going through 30 different cat foods. Although this last time was a good experience, I refuse to take my cats back there after the bad experiences I've had before. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone to ever take a pet here. My dog was scheduled for bladder stone surgery, after my initial office visit was set up incorrectly I showed concern with their office staff. A few days before my dogs surgery I received an e-mail stating his appt was at 11:15 am, which was incorrect, when I called the office to check they informed me to ignore the e-mail they sent me. When my dog was dropped off for surgery they didn t plan to do the additional procedures (teeth cleaning and nail trim) I had previous requested when his surgery was set up. Then they tell my husband (who was dropping the dog off) that he could be picked up the next day, which again the office had mis-informed me of. I again showed concern with the front desk staff and spoke with the doctor. After our conversation he gave me the option of not doing the surgery at all if I was untrusting of his staff. I told Dr. Hoover I was confident with him and did want the surgery done. 5 min after I got off the phone with him he called my husband and told him to come pick the dog up, they would not do the surgery. They had already given my dog an injection to prep him for the surgery so he was drowsy and slow all day. And now I am scrabbling to find another vet to get him to, to get surgery before one of his stones create further complications. I would wish the HORRIBLE VET EXPERIENCE to happen to anyone.
